Poaching and You.
In which chapter do you start poaching/ using secret hunt in FFT?
What items do you specifically look for when poaching?
What do you have poached recently?
Well, I start using secret hunt in chapter 2. I use a mediator to get a minotaur, a flotiball, and a dragon. I let them breed eggs, and get rid of the un-useful monsters, until I get the desired Item.
I'm restarting my game, I'm in chapter 3, and I have the following poached items:
- 2x Zorling Shape
- 1x Dragon Whisker
- 1x Holy Lance
- 1x Salty Rage
- 1x Defender
- 2x Healing Staff
How about you?
-
I typically start poaching pretty early on, but then again I'm a sucker for getting as many abilities as early on as I can, like Move +3 for all the males. And with that much fighting the enemies end up moving into the higher "verions" pretty early on as well.
Also, if you love poaching, try the Theif Single Class Challenge. It's a lot of fun.
-
I usually don't end up using Secret Hunt until Chapter 4, and usually look for the rare and difficult items (like Ribbons).
-
Well, I would try the thief challenge, but I couldn't use some of my favorite poached items, like Holy Lance. =/
-
Well you can always just give everyone Secret Hunt and let them run around poaching things too.
-
I start poaching as soon as possible. Of course the best poaching opportunities are in Chapter 4.
My prefered poaching is Hydra (Rubber Suit), Porky (Chantage), Great Morbol (Elixir/Madlemgen), Sacred (Holy Lance), and Wild Boar (Ribbon).
I reset the Finath River battle until I get an Uribo in the enemy units. It's much better than waiting for Deep Dungeon.
-
Can't a Red Chocobo also turn into a Ribbon? Or at least someting rare...?
-
You get either a Remedy or a Barette.
-
Yes, chapter 4 is a nice option, but I think is better to start in chapter 2, when you are in Zigolas swamp at the first time, you can invite an Uribo. That's when I start.
How about treasure Hunting? It also begins at chapter 2, when you fight Gafgarion, you can steal the blood sword, I also stealed some equipment I couldn't get in the shops, and .....well got Alma's equipment. *Shrugs*
-
I breed my own animals and then poach them. I try to get rare things like Wyverns whose level 3 forms give good rare items. I like to get one of every item in the game and you have to poach to do that.
-
I'm trying to get a dragon whisker (best spear) from a red dragon at the beginning of Chapter 3, where the fur shop first opens up.
I go in a battle, poach 3 of my own red dragons, and see if I get the whisker at the fur shop. If I don't, I reset the game, and try again.
It seems that EVERY time I try this, I get the salty rage instead. So I was just wondering if the item i get from these same 3 dragons is already "set in stone" to be 3 salty rages, or should I keep trying my "resetting the game" method. Thanks.
-
The only thing I have ever poached is for the holy lance, but I usually dont poach at all since there is nothing essential to the game in it. Although it is fun to try to collect everything, it can get old after like 15 hours.
-
Hey Ghost Pirate, keep trying! I find there's about a 10% chance to get the rarer of two items when poaching. I guess you can keep reseting, you'll eventually get that dragon whisker. I remember it took me forever, too. Have you gotten the Holy Lance yet? (From the Minotaur's big cousin, Sacred) It kicks a*s!
-
Holy lance- common item
Dragon whisker-rare.
Just keep resetting. that's the real method that I know until you get it.
(this isn't the ultimate spear, anyway. It's the ******* II, with 20+ attack power.)
-
Spiderman you're correct about whisker not being the ultimate spear :)
But it's the best spear you can get through most of the game, before you reach Nelveska Temple.
Although I tend to use the Holy Lance on the Lucavi demons, since it has holy property, as well as randomely casting "holy" ;)
The dragon whisker is better in most situations than the holy lance.
I was thinking it might have something to do with Zodiac signs, and the month you are in. This could make the "resetting" method useless.
-
Well, if months and zodiac signs affect the chances affect the luck, I would just keep reseting. In my opinoin, it would be a waste to be walking around until I have my unit/monster with X sign in X month to have X item. If I can get them reseting and not wasting days, the better.
Yes, dragon whisker is good and best in situation spear until nelveska temple. But Holy lance is still my personal favorite poached item. More easier to get, nice attack, and I always some fighting mages in my party.
-
It also might have to do with brave. I know that for the move-find item ability, you are more likely to find the rare item with a LOWER brave. You could make a character with a low brave and use them as your item finder if it doesn´t help the poaching.
-
very good idea.
since poaching and move-find item are the only situations where you can get a common/rare item, maybe low brave is best for both, and not just the latter.
