I heard about this a couple of weeks ago. Great news if it's true, but it'll still take several years before it's available on the mass market, I imagine, and it'll be several years more before it's affordable for most people (especially people living, for example, in Africa).
If this is true, than it is the greatest thing to have ever happened in my lifetime. I pray someone with alot of money might spend a little to get some of that stuff out to the poor people in Africa.
Amazing. I hope it really does work.
It really pisses me off that its not available to the public yet. If you're dying of AIDS you should be able to take whatever the hell drugs you want! God damn liberals.
xD Shlup your such a silly little furby!
yes i have heard about this for some time, though it doesnt necessarily prevent aids or cure it, it just quarintines it
though its still a great breakthrough :)
This is wonderful news. Even if it doesn't cure the disease, even tiny steps toward progress are what needs to happen. Perhaps in a decade or so, AIDS will no longer be the world beater it is and people can attempt to live happier, healthier lives. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this does indeed lead someplace promosing.
Take care all.
In my field, I am privvy to this kind of information. I've known about this ever since they did this test on a monkey, but still this is a wonderful breakthrough, and it is an indication that people are very close to finding a vaccine to HIV. This is about as close as they can get at the time for a cure for HIV, to stop the virus from acting. It would take a breathrough to find an actual cure for a virus, so this is a very good sign.
This is indeed great news.
While finding a Vaccine should be the ultimate goal, a medication that can stop the virus from propogating itself is certainly a major step forward.
This is kind of misleading because a vaccine really is a preventative measure and this is for when you already the virus so isn't this more along the lines of a cure?
Such as marijuana?Quote:

Anyway. It doesn't matter which party was in control, the drug would still be slow to come out. Only difference is that only the rich will be able to afford it under the Republicans :)
the more people that live with aids the more there are to pass it on. Something else will come along when aids is over. You can count on it. ;). Its kinda like the calm in FFX.
it causes an immune system reaction. it's a vaccine. cure is a very broad term. cure 2 + all.Quote:

yeah, it's good news. had this printed off three weeks ago and tried to show people but all i got was 'is this for class?'
Yup, it's true. If AIDS is "cured", chances are something more mutated will come along. It happens all the time. Infact I believe the HIV virus itself was becoming more mutated and various strains were starting to appear. While it's good that the virus itself is being combatted, it's too soon to start celebrating.
Now everyone can stop using condomes!
No actually I think this is great. It could save millions of lives.
