Less polygons and story of 2 only.

Apparently Square-enix had notched downt he polygon count in FFXII and replaced them with better lighting effects, which makes it look a lot like vagrant story. Dont know if i am happy about this or not.

And also, apparently the real deep story will mostly be based on Vaan and Penelo and all the rest (Balthier, Fran, Ashe etc) will only sort of be side characters that you can have in your party! I read this in one of the information sources given in this exact forum. I think the story should properly include everything as:
1 You wont get so annoyed with the same "personal demons" over and over again
2 It ensures that there will always be something to look forward to in the story
3 Balthier looks like a cool character
4, *look up 1, 2 and 3*
5, Look up 2, then 3 and then 2 and 5, 4 and also 1

I still know the game will kick ass though as the battle system looks amazing (not the only reason for it being great"

The less polygons they use, the more stuff they can have onscreen at once. Sounds good to me.

A good idea, dont close thread however, as there is still opinions to be heard on the polygon issue. I do think it is a good idea now that i think about it, but as with every ff i get annoyed at the change and when i finally get my hands on the game start to absolutely love it. Now i usually welcome the change.

I believe they used to low polygon count on the characters so they could make the landscapes and architecture more vast, bigger and prettier looking? I could be wrong.

I downloaded all the gameplay videos and I didn't notice any bad qualities in the character models and the landscapes looked amazing, so I don't know why anyone would think it's a bad thing?

I hope they focus on all the characters. Many of them seem to be very interesting so far, and the two characters I happen to be the least interested in are Vaan and Penello. But then again, I'll just have to wait and see until the game comes out. *sigh*

they made this Vaan guy look more female and alot like a little kid

I've seen the game in action, it looks better than Final Fantasy X regardless of what mechanics are behind the look. It's the best looking game I've ever seen on Playstation 2.

i noticed as the FF series hit the PS2 it was made towards very young audiences by making the main chars annoying panzes eg Zidane and Tidus just hope Vaan isnt asnnoying and theres alot of chars like Cloud Barret and Cid even Irvine Vincent Selphie and Zell personalities too

Oh give me a break. Because a character isnt a total badass that means it's geared toward children? Get over yourself.

I liked Tidus very much, and I'm 21. Just because you dont like something doesnt mean it's for children.

So who is the heroine of the story, Pennelo or Ashe?

Well, Final Fantasy XI is mostly played by people over the age of 18. It probably has the most mature audience of any other Final Fantasy game.

those characters where complete F**z compared to Cloud, Cid, Vincent, Squall, Seifer and Auron. the thing was tidus annoyed the hell outta me coz of his goddamn voice over argh my ears where burning in despair. Plus the way the stories are set out are too basic and no challenge to understand even though its a good thing the challenge of ff7 was good. Zidane and the rest of ff9 excluding Vivi where total hell the trance system put me off the speeds of the ATB bars ticked me off and the summons to late in the game was even worse but thats just me being picky about Final Fantasy different ppl have different oppinions which is why no one can win an arguement over the greatest ff ever made

I'm not trying to say which FF is best. You're the one saying that, because you thought they were wusses and the game was 'easy', that Square is making them for children. You may wanna take a minute, step back, and realize that these games are being made for people from a whole different country, and they have different ideas on what makes someone manly and, more importantly, what makes people good characters. I prefer story development over 'omfg look at his sword and his muscles xD!!!'.

Ive never heard a bigger moaner than shoden, get over it. Squaresoft (before) and Square-enix's (after) policy is "Make every game a new experience", the whole nature of FF is that it changes a lot every game. btw, zidane was in ffix which is on the ps not ps2. as for the complication of the story, that was only in ff7, in ff6 and ealier ones had the most simple story ever. ff8 9 10 and 12 have much more complicated and sophisticated stories than them.

i done the no sphere grid challenge once the game was still very easy with all the summons and celestial weapons

feminin villains often give me a creepy feel, and i think thats when you know its a proper villain!

it maybe a challenge but it isnt fun i liked torturing Jecht with oblivion alot and using mega flarfe on enemies that peed me off

Then dont use oblivion or mega flare. If you want a challenge, dont use all the most powerful stuff. Is it really that hard to understand?

Then dont complain about them making the game too easy. If they make the game too easy, dont use them. The game doesnt force you to use them.

Well, I liked Kuja and FF9 as a whole but...the characterization for the villians, especially Kuja, just wasn't there to full effect. He was just a terrifyin', pissed-off metrosexual (like this guy at my school O.o). FFVIII was so terrible. You had...er...A bunch of 16-year-old children trying to find themselves...like the OC, perhaps?
FFVIII Thoughts:
Well...here ya go, you have a solitary, secluded, lonely-for-decent-reason teenage male who has just discovered the one eyed snake. He is the main character, named after a bird just b/c his parents hated him (Laguna/???). Probably why he was in an orphanage? The pieces fit. So then, you have the whole cast knowing each other randomly for no good purpose since childhood (same orphanage). "OMFG, Sis! Seifer's making fun o' meh!" >.>
Rinoa is his undeveloped (characterization-wise) female role. She has enigmatic powers and is linked to villians that once again, have little detail and serve as place holders (like the FFIX crystals).
Zell is a punk-rock wannabe who thinks he can pull off some kung-fu.
Selphie is obviously a little girl who was cared about SO much that shes hooked on speed and Squall.
Quistis is an ugly nerdy teacher who is trying to recreate the rape teacher/student case in the FF world with her little Squally. Boobjob included.
Seifer is another one who says "Everything about me must be BIG!" >.> Was that supposed to be dramatic? Or just queer? I wouldnt know.
The only enjoyable character is Irvine, because he breaks up the feigned romance between Rinoa (is that also a type of bird?)...by using a pornographic magazine rofl...
The main plot is supposed to have a love theme and center?? Xenogears' Elly/Fei connection makes them look like 1st graders on a playground, no?
The rest is filled with cliches and boredom. Personally, I think that the FFVIII fanfiction "Crimson Lies" on RPGfan.com is much better than the actual game!
Thanks Squeeny for ruining a good amount of time and resource. I had to force myself to get to the last disk, but then I forgot that you need to be lvl 70+ to actually defeat the final bosses!? >.> So, is the ending there for laughs or is it actually okay...?
I hate FFVIII.
As for FFX? It was somewhat good, the plot was interesting enough but was flawed in some aspects. It always gave me a tingly feeling inside, it was very fresh, new, grandiose, the world was unique and epic, there were so many side areas...It really fleshes out, and it was worth it. Tidus is quite a whiny detraction from the golden experience though. FFX-2 is pure fan service, btw...if you haven't noticed.
FFXI is an average MMO, really. It was kind of a timefiller. It would have been perfect for me but...it takes too much lvling time to actually get to the missions/quests. The battle is repetitive enough to hurt when you are as powerful as I was.
I have a 42DRK/21WAR combination, rank 5. It was enjoyable until it started to go stale. I got sick of lvling nonstop waiting to do the next missions...so I eventually dropped.
I have mixed views on most of the newer FFs as you can fathom. I have a tremendous fondness to FFVII, and this is definately the best story (which is the most important aspect) of the bunch that I have played. Yes, Cloud and Sephiroth are both somewhat trite but their backgrounds, their stories! make up for their glaring flaws.
I hear some ppl consider FFVI/III the ultimate RPG? Im going to buy it and see ASAP, along with Chrono Trigger. Im borrowing KH from a friend pretty soon, too. Ill wait and see if these top the other games SE has came up with in their lifetime.

FFXII, from what I've seen, heard, and read, will be quite an addition to the FF universe, maybe topping my list of FFs...Im just hoping they dont flop with the story. The two character thing just means that they will have the most focus, its not like the other ones just disappear. It might be like the Suikoden III system, perhaps, yes/no? That wouldn't be bad at all. The thing with the polygons will actually be an improvement. Look at the snapshots, for God's sake! They are friggin' amazing! Much better than FFX/XI/X-2...and most everything else in this gaming generation.
Nobuo is not having much involvement though, on the topic of sound. He is composing the main theme, and maybe a few others, but that is all. What do you think of that?! Im a little upset...bring in Mitsuda!? j/k (he is awesome though)

7 is my favourite but 8 wasnt all that bad if nobuo uematsu could be in that form, Tetsuya Nomura make the chars a lot less annoying chars and differ from ppl like Zidane and Tidus but dont make them too cold like Cloud/Squall more char evolution the level up system and ATB system return and well have a great game also involve side quests including the return of weapons eg ruby sapphire diamond emerald Ultima and Omega

8 was a great game but it had its donwfalls like all ff games but some of them really tick us off "the man are sick"

No, no, no. FFVII? Save the princess? FFVI? SAVE THE PRINCESS?! I don't think so. To summarize it in a more benign, accepting way is to say that the stories are formatted to be liked by all gamers; by the general audience and the game scholars. So therefore they won't be as complex and such. FFVII and under were not mainstream therefore they could be as offense and deep and adult as possible. Xeno isnt mainstream, so it can do that too and get away with it. Thats my little theory. This genre of RPG, the story-heavy RPG, is much like a book, ya know? That means its coming into existance will be similar...

Since Shoden's posts are near impossible to decipher half the time... did you just say Nomura wasnt responsible for Tidus? Cause he was. And I really dont have any idea how Uematsu fits into the argument. He's a composer, not a character designer.

This topic has gotten so derailed I can't figure out how it went from point A to point B. I'll do my best to comment on the original topic though.

Low polygon count, eh? Should be interesting. If they texture map it well enough it'll still look great, but it sorta makes you wonder what they're planning. I'm not thrilled to hear it'll just be about the two lead characters, but I'll wait and play it before jumping to conclusions.

I could had just considered each character, one by one, underdeveloped and sickeningly wrong...How boring would that be?
