Eyes on Final Fantasy ccg?

I just thought about something.. an EoFF hack-game would take nearly two years if you count de-bugging and rechecking for any errors.. but a EoFF tcg could be running in well over a few months!

The hack is relativly simple, hell i could just use Pojo's apprentice system if i wanted.. and i have an original idea for a collectiable card game concept, unlike any other card game before it. Though it has elements that may remind you of magic the gathering "such as characters getting damaged and destroyed, equipment cards, etc." there is no "attack" and definitly no "defend". I can go more into detail if you're interested in the idea. I know a few questions may be bothering you so let me see if i can't cover them immideatly.

How will you distribute cards?
Good question, some forums i went to and tried this idea called me a moron and it would've been better for them cause they had a gil system. HOWEVER, I could improvise and make "points" like they do at the pokemon leagues. Whenever you play you get points, if you win your duel you get a few more points, after you have earned X points you can "buy" boosters or promos or whatever.

How will boosters be randomly inserted cards?
Not as difficult as you might immagine. With a little help we could make a rough draft with a number list of cards then roll dice generators to determine which numberd cards to insert into your booster. Right now I could make a 200+ card booster series..

Some cards say to roll dice and or flip coins, what should i do?
There are many of dice/coin flip generators over the net. We could easily put some up and you could use them over the course of the duel. Or if you prefer your judge could roll/flip for you.

What's a judge?
Though I have confidence in everyone and trust noone will try and cheat, a judge is still good to have to keep track of the progression of the duel and make tough calls. Also some may not want to play but won't mind assisting others to have a good time..

Can I be a judge and a player?
Sure, just not at the same time ofcourse lol. Judges just make the duels easier.

Can I help distrubate cards to players and or make cards?
Most ceartainly yes! Infact I'll especialy need peoples who are good at copy/pasting to help me paint the cards with pics so you can tell the differance between cards when they are played. And the distrubatation of cards just takes the patience of rolling die.

Pat yourself on the back, you just got a "secret rare". There is a one in twenty chance a booster will contain a secret rare card not listed on the spoilers.. There are six rareitys in all.
Common.
Uncommon.
Rare.
Holofoil.
Super rare.
Promotional.

This is all well and good, but how do i play without cards? Will there be starter decks?
No, but you will be given several boosters in a "booster draft" to construct your own deck. Each booster contains ten cards. So naturaly you'll be given four packs. The deck minimum is 40 the maxium is 60. However there will be options later in the game inorder to increase your amount..

Will you be playing?
No, I need time to thinkup cards so the game can evolve and grow better overtime. Besides, i don't think it would be a very fair match a player against the game's creator lol.

Help! I got doubles in my booster draft!
It's very doubtful you will not be able to make a deck in the draft, yes some cards are limited to 1 per deck, but most arn't. Infact you are allowed to have up to 4 character cards unless it says otherwise and 3 of any other type of card unless otherwise noted.. The only exseption to this rule is land cards. Land cards are always limited to 1 per deck per land card. (Take for example a forest or moutain, you can have one forest and one moutain in your deck. The amount of land you want is up to you, but only one of each land CARD per deck..)

When can we expect an expansion?
Soon very soon infact. I already have enough ideas to make FIVE series. I'm still working on the fifth so that will be the exapnsion. A quick annaylisis of each series to come..

Can I pick which series I get in my booster draft?
As much as i'd like to let you, I probably will just have one series out for a while till we get the hang of things. So unfourtanatly no.

When can we expect promotionals?
It'll come like a twister, unexpected but the impact be huge.. Infact i'm already in the works for the first promo which i will pick five lucky players from a hat drawing..

If you want me to make the game post here and tell me, if you think it's a bad idea hey that's okay too. It's not like i havn't been rejected before.

OH OH OH, let me do this. I can probably make the cards on a photo program or something.

Rogue's victory!
Alot of cards will let you be able to win the game by lucky shot means. Such as dice rolls, coin flips, even simple guessing games. There will be cards to also stopyou from playing cards that could make you win a "rogue's victory".. Bassicaly there will be two types of players, those willing to risk it all for a little luck, and those preassuring the use of constant stradegy..

Ante!
Something magic gave up on because it promoted gambeling. Ante cards are "playing for keeps". IE: before the start of the game you put a card up on the line. Any card, it doesn't have to be in your deck or nothing.. And there will be cards that get a boost of power or can only be played as a whole if you're playing for keeps.. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Screw political correctness!
I hated when they banned all cards pertaining to mythological demons such as Mephestephes and Satan, and I hated Yu-Gi-Oh! for editing Quijiji board into destiny board and "DEATH" into "FINAL". (Although I didn't mind Hypnosis Lucifer being changed to Invitation to a Dark Sleep. That DOES sound cooler..) ofcourse this is also the eyes on ff board and what FF game DOESN'T meation aincent demons or whatever rofl! xD But i figured i'd make it abudantly clear I won't hesitate to add these guys in there. And if it makes you feel any better I'll add the good guys too. Like Jesus: The chaotic evil bard! lol, that comic was great..

Pretty much the object of the game is to get enough "Recognition points" Whomever gets 1000 wins. You gain points depending on the card you played.

Oh, you also get to have some fun "picking your character card". There are tthree types of characters, conjurations, villains, and regular characters.

Conjuration.
Conjurations go in a side deck that doesn't count towards your deck limit. There is no limit to how many conjurations you can have on your side deck or the amount of each conjuration. Though I'd advise you to not go liberal with them as there may be cards in the future to use this against you.. Conjurations can only be brought into play by other card means, because they represent entities so powerful that they are summoned from a differant plain entirely. Most conjurations have to counter thier godlyness "phase-out X" they come into play with so many "phase counters" and at the beggeining of your turn you will remove one of these counters and when you are no longer able to the conjuration is returned to the side deck as eventualy all summons are dismissed. Bring a conuration into play does not count towards your one character summon per turn unless otherwise noted.

Character.
Characters are just guys like you and me. Unless otherwise noted you can only have four of each character in your deck at a given time and then there's the legendary status where there can only be one of that character card in play at a time. If another legendary character of the same card name comes into play discard the current one.

Villain.
Villains are not an option, not even I will be a villain. Villains represent the most foul and hated peoples we have the displeasure of knowing (Exepect alot of politicians to be villains..) you can only posess one villain at a time. This villain represents your deck as a whole and though can be brought into play like a normal character without counting as your one character summon per turn, if that villain is destroyed you lose the game. Think of the deckmasters from Yu-Gi-Oh! You can add extra cards to your maxium deck size equal to the strength of your villain. Every character card has a strength stat. A big gold circle under the cards pic will represent it's strength. When all your character's in play combine a total amount of strength to 20 or more you win the game. Taking power in numbers on a whole new level..

Representin'
A while back i was going to think up in depth storyline for a sprite comic i came up with but menh, with GED class and such i forgot about it. It was the idea of a video game world much like our own. Where everyone was a monster or a boss of some kind, when you think about it how are the heroes in video games the heroes? They slaughter countless, take thier money, and are always dethroning the current leaders leaving entire areas left in hectic anarchy. That doesn't sound very heroic to me.. I also notice the "heroes" tend to use alot more weapons then any of the "villains" for instance Link is heavily packing where as mogs maybe throw a spear or two. Looks like Link was preparing ffor some terrorism crap like some sort of trenchcoat mafia junk.. I mean comeon! The guy fed bombs to a dinosaur! A Mario replaces a green peace flag with a red star of communism! And these guys are the heroes?!?!

Clearly it's up to you what "monster/boss" you want to be. It would save us time if you posted a picture of said sprite so we can just copy/paste it immideatly.

Well, besides having differant names, stats, and abilities entirely.. a blunt visual will probably go into effect. Did that member pick a green or a red koopa troopa? Though simaler there ARE subtle differances. Green koopa troopa are fairly meek, red ones are crazy S.O.B.s and arn't afraid to charge at Mario. And don't forget those spazzy flying ones!

As you can see the possibilties are endless as there are so many differant enemies in our favorite games variety is never an issue. The only problem is you having trouble deciding what you want as your picture. If you can't make up your mind too much you can always ask one of our staff to make a descision for you. It's no trouble at all for us. But we'd like to know your comfertable with your card, afterall it's a game intended for you..

I have more then one registerd name, can i have two cards?
Yes you may, but you'll have to give me that name so i can erreta that those two cards represent the same person despite being differant cards entirely so the deck limit still remains 4 but with differant options..

What if one of my characters is limited to 1 per deck and the other isn't?
The 1 per deck rule should be considerd first because those cards are ussualy pretty uber. So if that be the case you can only use that one card of you, or up to four of your other.

What's the differance you ask? Well they teleport differantly, where as the blue portals himself to where link was last standing (Showing he's going to hunt his ass down and nuke'em..) the orange simply slides in a chess like fashion either diagonaly, verticaly, or in an L shape. Also where as the blue is quick to teleport again and shoot more beams the orange one seems to only teleport a few times and shoot maybe once or twice.

I won't give away what you do or how powerful you are, but you're a common and #1 in a series of 200. Note: Right now i'm just writing down what each card does on a notepad in my PC. I have a bad.. thing that your brain does.. for info.. like a memo.. :p

This is starting to remind me a bit too much of Yu-Gi-Oh! and I tend to really HATE random-effect cards in large quantities, it takes away the skill factor involved in the game. I am willing to help out though, if you need it.

lol, well unlike Yu-Gi-Oh! there won't be uber cards then craptacular ones without side effects of some sort. My displeasure of card games is when they make some with absolutely no reason at all to put into your deck. I mean really, with so many 1800atk monsters what point is there in having a dark bat or whatever?

Also in tournies there won't be a banned/restricted list, atleast not a very large one. Unless someone manages to create a super combo that would break any opponent immideatly. Which i highly doubt..

Note: the first expansion will be "heavy metal" lol. Because i noticed so far more then half the cards are equipment or equipment artifacts. Let me explain those comments while i'm posting..

Equipment cards.
You can "equip" you or your opponent's characters with equipment cards and they have a variety of effects, unless it's an equipment-artifact in which case it's just brought directly into play.

Action cards.
You can only play action cards during your turn and there will be "permanent actions" which remain in play indefinitly.

Event cards.
Like actions but can be played anytime. They to have a permanent variety.

Another ruling: No deck outs. It's all too common to see tcgs come down to who has the least amount of cards and simply because you can't draw anymore you lose, that won't fly in eyes on final fantasy. Instead when you can no longer draw any cards you turn over your graveyard and shuffleit then draw the top card as usual.

End the first turn debate: There's always an argument on how to determine who gos first. I believe in the "lady's first" ruling. girls always go first and if you're two girls or two guys the person with a lower post count gos first as i have a soft spot for newbies. If you have the same amount of posts as well the judge decides who gos first.

Bad idea. That eliminates just about all of the potential graveyard combos, and it also means a game can, quite literally, last forever. Do what they do in L5R, don't allow people to lose via decking unless there's a specific card out that allows it (probably something to the effect of you lose life or whatever if you can't draw any longer). Generally if you get decked, there's a very good reason, either A) the opponent's deck is MADE to do that or B) the game's lasted too damn long already. If you don't want decking, just make it so that once your deck is out, you're done, you win with what you have in play.

Or we could use one of those random number generators and allow whoever gets the higher roll to decide whether to go first or second, so it'd actually be FAIR.

Also, I'm highly advising that you have some sort of mana system, that allows for much more variation than in Yu-Gi-Oh! where you just toss cards out and have to come up with some strange way to justify being able to play the stronger cards.

Okay, I assume Trumpet Theif is calling Chaos his represenative which is okay cause i said there'd be conjurations and Strawberryman's going with GoGo. (Heheh.. so many specials i could give that.. but i think i know what i'm going to do..)

I've seen about 20 episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh, yet I still have no idea what this is. Just make sure you have a Sonny card. :D

Can you compile a list of the rules? I can look over it and make suggestions. I've been playing CCGs for a good decade or so, so I can probably at least offer some suggestions.

No, i've had this idea for quite some time. Here are the rules in one fell swoop.

Deck limit: 40-60. unless you have a villain in which case you can have a maxium more of +X. The X is the villain's strength.

Ways to win: "Rogue's victory" cards which each card lets you win differantly. and the most common way "overpower" victory. When your total strength score comes to 20 or more via characters and other means.

characters: character cards represent people, each character has a fixed set of "strength" and when that total amount equals to 20 or more you win the game. Only one character can be played per turn however there are many ways to bring characters into play besides the basic summoning. There also is "villains" and "conjurations". Villains can go on the side of you and add to your deck maximum equal to thier strength, they can be brought into play at any time and treated just like a character. However if they are sent to the graveyard or removed from the game or otherwise removed from play, you lose the game immideatly. Conjurations go on a side-deck and most conjurations "phase-out". They come into play with so many phase counters and at the beggeining of your turn you remove one of them, when there are no more present they return back to the foreighn plains. IE: your side deck. Only 1 villain per player. 4 of any character card unless otherwise noted. and conjurations are limitless. note also on strength: strength not only represents points to win but more or less the character's health, if their strength for any reason should reach 0 they are immideatly destroyed and sent to the graveyard.

Actions/Events: Actions can only be played during your turn and events at anytime. There are permanent counterparts to these.

Equipment cards/Equipment-artifacts: Equipment cards on put on a character of your choosing and equipment-artifacts are just put onto the table like permanent action or event cards.

Lands: Only one land can be in play at a given time and when a new land comes into play the old one is discarded.

Reshuffle: When you run out of cards instead of "decking out" you turn over your graveyard, shuffle the library, then draw as usual.

I don't really like it, it's basically Yu-Gi-Oh! with a few changes. I think I'll be sitting this one out.

Rules:

Characters;
Unlike my previous game there is only one type of character this time around. No strength or nothing like that, but every character has a "job". (Based off FF job class system.) or "monster".

What role jobs/monster race play:
You and your opponent may bring lands into play, only one during your turn though and only one character during your turn as well. You "attach" the characters to either you or your opponent's land in an attempt to "complete" or "destroy" that particular land. Your choice.

Complete/Destroy.
All lands have the potential to either become great nations or dust bowls.. character cards declare which they are trying to do. A ceartain number of characters is needed inorder to destroy or complete a land. When you complete a land you gain 2 points and the land's special power if any, when you destroy one (which is naturaly easier.) you get 1 point. When you are the first player to reach 20 points you win the game.

how do i complete or destroy a land?
besides the obvious number ratio, you must be on the list of needed character types to complete a land. For instance a land may either need fighter-theif-red mage. In which case you have to be one of those job classes inorder to help complete the land, be anything else, and your helping destroy it. Get it?

assited destruction/completion.
the main reason to put your characters on your opponent's land is to call assited destruction or completion. when this happens both players have contributed to the cause and differant occurances happen.

in an assited completion both players gain 2 points but no special power is activated.

in an assited destruction no player gains any points.

is it an assited completion/destruction if it's only MY characters that contributed to my opponent's land?
no. if only one player's characters are present on the land then it is treated as normal.

Equipments, actions, events, deck rules, and reshuffeling still apply. Better?

It's better but the reshuffle rule bothers me for reasons stated prior. I don't think its a good idea, the reason there is the "decking" rule is so that games don't last forever.

Well, I'll probably just watch this thing as it expands. If you want you could make a card of me, but I doubt I'll have time to play this intriguing, confusing game.

That sounds good to me.

If you don't want decking to be an immediate loss, you can make it so that people lose points if they cannot draw, and once you reach a certain negative number of points you lose immediately.

Now it looks like the only way to lose is deck out. IE: I´m playing against someone. he playes some location that needs fighter, monk, black mage. he puts a black mage in there and i put a fighter. both got points. or he puts fighter and i put summoner. neither got points. You anyway have as many points as your enemy. the only situation your opponent or you get points more than the other is that you or your opponent does not have any char cards available

A good game is designed so that decking out is the last option and if both decks are so evenly matched that they fight to a standstill. If this is made correctly, it shouldn't happen very often.

I was thinking about that just yesterday, while reading my quantamn physics book and the chaptor about the dimensions it got me to thinking about combining both my ideas it'll a more sensible one. That way no character card is "weak" or "strong" simply differant. For instance..

The lands could have a point gauge, a ceartain amount of points needed to either complete or destroy. Like before the character declares which he's going to do. Here's an example.

Earth.
Land.
Complete-10
special power:
none.
Destroy-5

Now I have to put character cards on this land untill i get enough "points" to either destroy it or complete it. Like before assisted destruction/completion can happen.

So now you may think stompy cards will dominate right? not nesscarely. As there will be a differant "stat" for destroying things and completing them. Using the common poker symbols.

Spades represent your ability to destroy something. Naturaly those with a high spade score will want to declare destruction on the land they're setteling on.

Clubs represent your ability to complete something. Obviously those with a high club score will be quick to declare completion of a land.

Hearts represent your health, if for any reason your heart score should reach 0 that character is immideatly discarded.

Diamonds represent you as a person and your personal worth, in-game this blunty translates into how many of that card is allowed in your deck. All cards have a diamond score.

When you complete or destroy a land the land card and all characters etc attached to it are sent to thier owner's graveyard. Like before pick a video game enemy you'd like to see yourself in the shoes of..

I still stand by my orange wizzrobe, i determined through mathamatical equasion (And adding up that one blast from him depletes link of four hearts..) that the wizzrobe is the equivalent to a black mage casting 6th level magick!

Is this a game we actually play or is it all in our heads?
