Guilty Gear X2 #Reload is probably as god as any 2D fighter ever gets.
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter 3 : Third Strike
Guilty Gear X2 sounds really good.Ive seen many clips of it and it looks the bomb. But Even though im gonna get it.Id like to get a Street fighter as well so I can get a better understanding of the series
MORTAL KOMBAT
dun dun dun dena
dun dun dun dena
MORTAL KOMBAT
boom boom boom boom
*dance dance dance*
Streets of Rage 2 is the best game ever made, come to think of it S.O.R 2 probably qualifies more under the genre "sidescrolling".
Yeah, the Streets of Rage games are mostly considered 'beat-'em-ups'.
I haven't played any Street Fighter game beyond the latest variations of SFII, and I liked whatever Guilty Gear game it was that I played, so that has to get my vote. I don't play 2D fighters much these games, but I really should get back into 'em.
Marvel vs Capcom II. The game that redefined button mashing.
Clay Fighter 63 and a third....
But seriously, I'd say Marvel vs. Capcom or Street Fighter Alpha
I hated the Marvel Crossover games. People only liked them because they had Wolverine in them.
Street Fighter II.
But then the only other 2D fighter I've ever played is Mortal Kombat, so that's hardly saying much. :D
MK is a crappy fighter anyway. It had a good set of characters but crappy combat. They should have made it have a freeformed combat engine like Guilty Gear or Street Fighter.
Street Fighter Alpha 3 gets my vote. I haven't played it in a long time but I remember liking it.
Slightly off topic here but out of interest, what's the latest game in the Street Fighter series and what platforms are it available for?
SF3, SFA3, MVC2, CVS2, and KoF '03...
SF Anniversary. Avaialbe on PS2 and XBox.
Streets Of Rage
Yay!Quote:

Sorry I didn't make myself clear enough! I meant as a part of the main series. Like, not "Vs " or "anniversary" editions.
Taking this into account, would it be Street fighter 3 Alpha?
I think SF3:Third Strike.
Personal Favorite- KoF series
Overall best 2d fighter- Guilty Gear X2
Im goin to get Guilty gear X2
I got the original MK games but the new ones are rubbish
Favourite-KOF 98
Others-Marvel vs Capcom
Capcom vs SNK
SF Alpha
Capcom vs SNK 2
SFIII: Third Strike
and hopefully in the future, GGX2
What platforms are SF3: Third Strike available for?
I'd like to buy it so I need to know! :D
SF Anniversary has SF3: Third strike so both Xbox and PS2.
I don't have an Xbox and in Europe, we only got Street Fighter II in the Ps2's anniversary edition. :(
What other platforms did it come out on? The original Playstation perhaps?
Dreamcast.
Damn!
I'd have to find a Dreamcast or buy an Xbox to play it then.
You should be able to pick up a DC for about £30 from Gamestation.
KoF 2000. I [img]http://home.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/heart.gif[/img] Kula Diamond!
This is teh way. :DQuote:

theres like 5 moves per character which do all the same except they look different
Marth: Grab Down Throw => Instant Smash Attack
Samus: Bomb to bounce back, to reduce chance of resmash out of the ledge, Air Dodge and then use Grappling Beam to pull up and kick offending Smasher away. You can save yourself from seemingly horrendous death many times this way.
Rolls are suspectible to throws, therefore you dodge at the same time and shield alot to prevent that from happening.
Air Dodging directional by small jumping right pass some guy doing a combo will net you an instant edge.
Not all the moves are the same, go to combovideos or look up some tatics..its not as simple as it looks although it CAN be played that way.
First, yeah, it's 2D, you only move on 2 axises. Just becuase there are 3D graphics doen't mean it's 3D. Second, like was said by lionx, if you don't think there's depth you obviously either haven't played it that much or just don't like anything Nintendo, no matter what it is.Quote:

Your saying all games have depth unless you dont like them.
Thats stupid!
Not really a nintendo fan. Not saying there bad but not really my type of gaming. People like smash bros alot and im noty saying its a bad game but I dislike it for the reasons above
No what we are saying is that Smash Bros, although it is not very apparent, has high level play that are played in tournaments. One reason why a Fighting game lives is because it can be played at high levels and tournaments are held. Although not as widespread as SF, Smash does have high levels of play there to be recognized by some. Although this game CAN be played as a party or casual game, people themselves can turn it into a frenized melee battle of skill with the right tweaking of items and stages. Thats why its considered a great game.
Don't seem to recall saying that.Quote:
