Well done. ^__^
Although I was *really* expecting you guys to close down the place for the final Act in this EoFF drama. :p
Actually, I'd have to say this was 100x worse than Linus and his suicide note, depending upon how much of this bullwas put on.
Actually the whole redirecting every forum to the front page was kinda blah. I don't see why you guys liked it so much. It was pretty much last minute.
Too bad I just had this whole bottle of sleeping pills before seeing this! >:O
...
I so freaking knew it. Where's my prize? :goomba:
Seriously, that was the most thought out April Fool's joke I have ever seen. gj
xD
That sums up my feelings rather well.
:D
Roogle only just convinced me to stay on Site Staff, as I nearly resigned through hearsay. Needless to say, I'll be adding a certain member to my ignore list permanently from now on.
Good job, everyone. 'Twas thoroughly entertaining, if a little offensive. ;)
Yeah that joke sucked. It was corny...Quote:

Yeah, that was a pain in the butt after the first five mintues. I ended up having to use email notifications and the "latest posts/threads" pages to navigate threads.Quote:

I'm lost, are people saying there was another 'joke', other than the redirecting of the pages?
Yay to Feedback's return by the way.
Wow, you certainly had me fooled, if you can call it that, considering how the joke didn't occur today.
And some of you guys are really good actors, the bitterness just came so natural. ;)
*blinks*
Wow. Good job.
I thought that the "Plot Twists" thread should have clued everyone in.
Oh and I kept seeing Yams looking at invisible threads on the Who's Online after he stepped down. Same thing for eest and foa before they were knighted. :p
And nice Cid's Knights don't lie, when asked straight up. ^__^
Ok, so are foa and eestlinc still going to be knights or what? It'd be cool.
foa and eestlinc are indeed Knights.
no, we get kicked out tomorrow. Anyone want to buy staff forum secrets off me while you can?
Sweet.Quote:

I wondered how D could manage the same warning message in two different threads, unless he copy/pasted from a deleted thread; I also wondered why it sounded so out-of-character for him. I wondered why it took Kishi so long to scan the picture "again." I wondered why BoB tried to find every excuse in the book to keep Kishi unbanned besides "the image wasn't bad enough." I wondered why Yams changed his mind half-way through concerning the "banning". At that point, I thought it was a joke, but then allowed myself to get carried away. Probably because Shlup posted in my LJ 4389574397534975834 times, and why the smurf would you do that if it was just a joke? :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:
Right, that's the stunned silence over with. And I was stunned. For a full minute I didn't move, I didn't speak, I barely breathed. Some people had considered the possibility that it might be an April Fools gag, although I didn't agree with them. I reasoned that the staff wouldn't pull something this big, and boy was I wrong. It was big. It was elaborate, brilliantly planned, and brilliantly executed. It was the single most complex April Fools joke I've ever seen, and congratulations to you all for pulling it off so well.
Having said that, while the whole 'Kishi scandal' didn't anger me, this bloody well did. I'd like to think that I can take a joke, but this one came very near to crossing the line for me. The feedback forum was in chaos, it didn't take long before General Chat was too. As far as we could tell, Eyes on Final Fantasy was falling apart, and cleverly orchestrated or not, seeing that sort of thing happen is not at all nice. I think you underestimated just how much people care about this place. We're not exaggerating when we say we love this place, and our friends at EoFF are as much our friends as those we play sports or go to the movies with, perhaps even more so. We're as attached to this board as you are, and seeing it seemingly collapse before our eyes was an emotional experience.
The way I saw it, EoFF at the height of the 'crisis' just wasn't worth it any more. I came so bloody close to turning my back on this place for good at one point, and looking at the state of the boards at that time I doubt I would have even considered returning. Only the smallest speck of enjoyment that remained in the place kept me from doing just that, and convinced me that things would be all right in the end. While the board may have crumbled, I told myself that as long as the people were there it would still be EoFF. The friends I made over the years kept my faith in this forum, and it's thanks to them that I stuck it out.
And I'm glad that I did, because cruel though the prank was, it's exactly the kind of thing I love about EoFF. Seeing people put in so much time and effort just for a laugh is what makes our forums so enjoyable. Events like the Ciddies, Anniversary celebrations and others always throw up some classic moments, but this caught us completely by surprise, and has surpassed anything we've seen before. If we can still be doing stuff like this after five years then all the low points are worth it, because the highs of being an EoFF member are so magnificent.
Now that the Great April Fools Prank of 2005 is over, I'm relieved to see that it has all been one big joke. I thought Eyes on Final Fantasy was dead, but now I see that it's as strong as it ever was. After all, only such a thriving community could have staff committed enough to pull off such scheme, and members dedicated enough to react in the way they did. For masterminding this great deed, and for standing up for your beliefs so valiantly, you all deserve a huge pat on the back. You played us all for fools, and in doing so you gave us an Eyeson moment that will never be forgotten. Congratulations, and thank you.
Now never, ever do it again. :p
Excatly. That thread alone was a huge hint and I'm surprised not many people realised that.Quote:

What I'm hitting myself over is D's edit in Kishi's thread. It was so out-of-character, I immediately thought it was a joke(I even thought that Kishi had made the edit himself in D's name). Kishi deleted the thread, made a new one. D used the exact same edit message. I wondered why and how, but I never thought to look into it. That was the biggest tip-off for me.
In all my time here at EoFF I've never been invisible.Quote:

I love it how Raist knew nothing. :) He would have done such a great acting job, too.
EDIT: Yams, she means on the Who's Online list. If there's no thread title, it's invisible. :)
Yes. Although I am a little bit angry, I'm so flippin` happy that it WAS all a joke, and that completely overwhelms any other feelings. I'd much rather have it this way, and be a joke, and make me feel stupid, to be honest.Quote:

I was hoping matt was stepping down. :p Sorry man.
I was pretty certain Kishi never posted porn. After asking for evidence, I concluded there must be none. I was also really shocked by how out of character staff turned into. I just didn't make the final connection. So, as much as I would like to say "You didn't get me!" Yeah, you guys did. Good work, and well orchestrated. That was really something.
I think it would be even more funny if foa and eest got de-CKed. :D
I was really hoping this would bring about a little bit of change around here, but despite it all being a joke, I think we can all learn a little about this joke today.
It is NOT okay to post porn.
Anyways, I have a real AFJ to pull off now that is about the same magnitude as this one IRL, so I'll take confidence from how successful this one was.
I thought it was funny. Sorry anout that Krang...
I STILL stand behind everything I posted in light of this, joke or not, though I drew a huge sigh of relief when I was informed everything was just an elaborate gag as well as experiment.
Take care all.
I stand behind nothing I posted, because I don't give a damn about any of you anymore. :p
this was all actually a case study in how to handle a crisis on staff.
Hopefully, the findings will be published sometime in the near future?
Take care all.
Kishi claims, I've learned, that a full report will be coming soon. I'm sure that it will be looked forward to.
The Texas Rangers don't like this kind of mayhem.
I'm not surprised that this week-long endeavor was actually an elaborate hoax, because it really wasn't that elaborate. Clues all over the place, including the plot twists thread and one giant tipoff in another thread where someone stated that they were glad that Lord Krang was no longer a Knight, and what was Krang's reply but "I'll make a note of that."
What I am surprised at is the maliciousness of it all. Who could really appreciate this humor besides the people involved? Early on, I realized that it was a hoax, but other members may not have been so quick to the punch. Were they just outcasted in their arguments for the sake of the staff's giggles? I do not approve. =\
I use the pink style, so the joke didn't affect me. Yay!
I'm releived as well. I'm also pissed right off.
It's the same with every practical joke - it has to be played on someone.Quote:

I've always enjoyed a well orchestrated april fools prank. I just hope that this doesn't cause Dell Snizz to post even less than he already does after that brilliant post he made in the other thread. He's got what, 5 posts that haven't been pruned?

As you can see, I was sure it was a joke for quite a while. I even IMed Roogle well after the original "incident" and said, "Yeah, it's a joke." This was when Roogle was claiming he didn't know anything. :p
Raistlin, you're funny.
Without Roogle and Shlup, I would've at least doubted the veracity of the Kishi incident much longer than I did. I probably would've asked the right questions then, such as why and how D put in the exact same edit message in both threads Kishi made. :pQuote:

There's a heck of a lot of censored stuff in that thread. You're not already planning next year's prank, are you? :D
I don't think we'll ever be able to pull off something like this again.
Also, I'd estimate that at least 75% of the stuff we censored - possibly closer to 90% for all I know - would be quotes from PMs, chat sessions or LiveJournal entries/comments.
Wait, why is the stuff censored anyway? Did I miss something?
So how hard were you laughing at me in that feedback thread Shlup? -____-
I can't deny that was pulled off damn well.
1) Things were quoted from PMs, chat sessions, LJ entries and the like that we haven't gained authorisation to quote. I got permission from Raist and Raf to quote the chat sessions involving them after everything was over. We can't quote messages that were sent to staffers in private, that'd be rude.Quote:

Thought that much would have been obvious. :p Oh, and then there's the odd hentai picture that was posted while we were trying to figure out what to say Kishi posted.
Yeah, I noticed all the attachments have vanished :p
That was a really good April fools joke! You had me fooled :)
Hats down, that was the best thought out joke I have ever seen. :D
By the end I wasn't even playing myself anymore. Honestly, I would only leave staff because of drama and not because the staff members were pissing me off. And I certainly wouldn't have made a thread about leaving. It's not like me at all.
I noticed that the further this went along, the Staff got more and more out of character, especially BoB and Yams. :p
And when Shlup told me both Yams and RSL were ok with Kishi being unbanned, that made me go "wtf?" That was a bit of a mistake.
Oh, and Yamsy: I only quoted our convo to Shlup because it was privately to an admin and she was accusing me of LYING! >=O
I still say Kishi's signature has boobies in it and he should be banned!
smurfing Hell, man.
It wasn't funny, but it was pretty well done. I think I missed the "plot twist" thread that was mentioned, which is likely since I was out of town and came back in time to find the staff disbanded, so I was extra fooled xD
I'm glad none of the crap was true, like most everyone else.
But you all did such a good job of playing someone else. :) I'm just glad actually that I had to be away for most of that week because I'm not a very good actor. :)Quote:

I was going to quote my next post where I said that we should be fine, since no one listens to you, but it was censored for some reason. Good sniffing, Flames.
The most obvious clue of them all was at the very beginning. Only one person, one person, bothered to ask WHY kishi would make a thread with a hentai image in it in the FFVII Forum, if he didn't want to get banned. It doesn't make any sense! That was one of the best parts.

He made one in the FF7 forum? Wow, I missed that. I stopped checking all the other forums after all this started. Feedback and LJ were active enough. xDQuote:

When we decided to pull an April Fool's prank, we knew it had to be something bigger and deeper than ever before, otherwise everyone would know it was fake immediately. "Kishi posts porn and gets banned" is just too obvious. But when we added our carefully orchestrated arguments, grudges and public rages, it all seemed much more plausible.
If anything, the event and the reactions to it have been very useful as a learning tool. We've heard people's ideas on what makes a good forum and a good staff, on how the rules should be adminstered and enforced, and how 'open' staff decisions should be.
As for all this talk of "it looked like EoFF was falling apart!", I think that's a slight exaggeration. A few staff members disagreed on a few issues, and our disagreements went public. It just got inflated into a colossal drama, but at no point did it even appear to threaten EoFF's future. This was still the same old place, just with a few less people in charge.
I'm kind of entertained about how it all went:
*I 'speak out' and become a hero/martyr for standing up against injustice
*Shlup is the evil biatch for being so mean
*I get labelled cowardly and irresponsible for speaking out because it caused so much drama
*Shlup is still called an evil biatch even though it's all my fault:p
It was interesting to watch how members' attitudes toward different staffers changed over time.
:)
My attitude didn't change at all, until I was told that Yams and RSL kept switching sides every-other hour or so. :p
Genius. Not funny, but genius.
I just read all 35 pages of the planning thread. I suppose that means I have far too much time on my hands. ^^;;;
I kind of fell for it -- I know I definitely felt upset about how things were shaping up. I think I was mostly ticked that threads with ... interesting feedback were getting closed right and left. (Although... that forum was getting quite spammy... I totally fell for it being closed legitimately.)
However, I'm still kinda new, and I don't know everyone/actions as well as a lot of members. And I was offline for most of the first, being addicted to my PSX.
But all and all, it's a well-planned out trick. Such a shame I hate April Fool's with a passion.
It was genius to the point of how it was planned. A lot of planning went into it, perhaps too much planning. If you guys got that kind of time on your hands, yay for you. I should make an effort to be active here more.
The only reason I knew that much about any of this was through Raistlin's lj, xD
In the end though Dave, had this been real, I think you'd have actually done a true service for trying to expose a situation that needed to be addressed, not kept in the shadows.
I'll never want to be in charge of something where I have to hold information or opinions back, so I'd have done the same had I been in that position, but that's just me.
Take care all.
I dunno why my crash thread is in the archive but that's fine *yay* XD I woulda done it anyway.
What? I changed sides exactly once and I at least had a semi-plausible reason for it. The problem was that everyone kept posting in public that there was fierce debate going on in the staff forum about whether Kishi should be unbanned or not and when asked by you I could only come up with Shlup vs. everyone else. That was already a huge contradiction that I was very worried about.Quote:

You're lucky you guys didn't kick off Daryl as per the original plan, because with only the "Pro-Kishi" people left, according to Shlup, I probably would've suspected something. :p
wait a second, hold the phone, there was an april fools joke?
it was good in that it was sneaky and had everyone wondering about stuff, but for an unobservant fool like me i totally missed half of what was happening so just thought that no april fools stuff had been done! :p :p
That would be some trick.Quote:

On the other hand, I don't think any April Fool's joke could top the Pope's.
Snizz is wrong. I know of a better joke.
*left eye twitches
I'll never give a crap again.
Brilliant. Then again, with 1000 posts of planning behind it, you'd think they could have cured cancer while they were at it.
We did.
That'll be twenty bucks.
I had a really sweet revenge planned out but my partner in crime isn't so cold-hearted and I can' t do it alone. Poor living soul .*sigh*
Didn't someone else say this already?Quote:

What has this to do with Feedback?
It's giving the forums staff feedback on their april fool's joke. :pQuote:
