Rant about the last boss battle

Saturday. I was finally ready to face Ultimecia. Again. With Squall at Lv 50 and over 7000 HP, Zell at Lv 39 and 7000 HP, and Rinoa at Lv 41 with 4500 HP. I was ready to tear Ultimecia's wings off, feather by feather.

The battle begins and Zell, Squall and Irvine are sent out (oh why did I give Rinoa all the Auras). Nevertheless this weak Ultimecia is no match for Shivia and Diablos. She panics and sends out the strongest GF.

Irvine is quickly wiped out by this monster and is replaced by Rinoa. Finally! A chance to show this GF who's really boss around this place. With a bit of re-decorating, Ultimecia's crib would be a nice place to hang out on the weekends.

With Squall's Lion Heart limit break, this puny thing is no match for me. Until it tries its Shockwave Pulsar. Typical of Final Fantasy to give a boss an overwhelming power to defeat you.

Squall and Zell survive and Rinoa (weakling) faints. Never mind! With Squall pouring down limit breaks on the GF (while losing Shiva, Ifrit and Diablos in the process) the GF is defeated. Megalixer heals my party up again, while Ultimecia junctions with her GF.

A third boss to defeat? Things are starting to get desperate. Squall is down to a max of 4500 HP (without Curaga junctioned). Zell is still hanging in there.

And suddenly, this Ultimecia/GF thinggy uses planets to try and destroy me. I mean, come on! Zell is alive, Squall faints and Rinoa also faints (forget about her).

Aha! I've got an idea! Squall can now use a limit break, while Zell heals up and revives Squall! Perfect!

Limit break after limit break I fight, and with over 20 limit breaks used Lion Heart doesn't appear. Now I'm annoyed. Zell is running out of potions, Squall is running out of Phoenix Downs and I'm running out of patience.

But no one can survive that many limit breaks without weakening, and at last! I've defeated them! No, wait. What? I've managed to split them in two, and yet they can still fight?

And, with one fell sweep of Ultima my party gets wiped out. A whole hour of fighting is gone, 'cause she just wouldn't die. Why does Final Fantasy alwasy keep bringing the bosses back like this? :mad2:

Okay, it was a nice party while it lasted, people. Ultimecia wants us to turn off the music, and it's getting late. Let's all go home.

(But I will get Ultimecia's crib some day)

That does sound quite frustrating. Personally I prefer keeping Squall at full HP with the Recover ability (I think Leviathan has it) and have everyone else Auraing him.

Final Fantasy fans who write about their FF experiences always put in an amount of humor and passion...it's always cool to read it...but that's something I don't get...almost all FF fans have some kind of good literary use of the English language...i guess FF does teach and provides entertainment...pretty dam cool

it's always fun to face the final boss in a "not-so" prepared state...i try that all the time...but it's not fun when you lose...haha

a very hard final boss battle is nothing new to ff...i've really enjoyed learning the boss's weakness' and during my 5th or so try, kick it's ass...which made the game worth while...no one wants an easy final boss battle

And there's ANOTHER fight after that as well. The "final" ultimecia. That's 1 of the most awesome battles in the game and the music rocks. :cool:

i beat her on my first go around. however, i was at lvl 100 and most of my other people were at 87-95 (except for irvine and selphie). when she's juntcioned to her GF she kills yours when you try to summon them, so its wasting valuable attack time trying. (SPOILER)there are 4 stages to the final fight (5 if you include when griever loses his tail) it takes practice, and a few visits to the islands closest to heaven and hell.

You shouldnt have told him that, Id have preferred to hear his reaction from finding it out the hardway. My advice, you're cure spells are very important and if you dont have an Angelo or *insert particular card* that has been junctioned into 100 elixers or Megalixers then Id try junctioning my HP to a strong magic you dont use like Firaga or high amount of ultimas if you have any so you're free to use Curaga as you wish. I divided out my parties aura equally and defeated most of the forms with limitebreaks and a strongly junctioned attack.

The main issue with junctioning magic to statistics here, I would think, is that Ultimecia can wipe out an entire stock of a given spell.

That being said, there are plenty of strategies that will allow you to take apart Ultimecia with ease. If I recall correctly, Ultimecia's level is set, rather than leveling up as the party does (like most enemies). Given that, she has an advantage on you, so further leveling will help your cause in this case.

And, yes, The Extreme is an awesome final battle theme.

Ultimecia was SOOOO easy. I remember I had 100 flares (or ultimas) junctioned to Squalls strength, basically maxing it out. all my characters were level 100, which only takes about 2-3 hours if you use the degenerator trip on the islands of heaven or hell. then, have somebody (i used irvine) to have plenty of aura, and cast it on squall. with someone else (i used zell) refine the bahamut card into 100 megalixirs and just use those all the time. i also used meltdown on ultimecia to make sure every hit of lion heart did 9999. I pretty much do that every time, and it always works for me.

Yeah Ultimicia is a hard boss but ive bet her lod's of times i was lv100 though and i had 100 elixers,holy's,Ultima's and Aura's. I think the aura's won it for me i just used triple on Irvine and kept using aura so then i have Squall doing 9999 damage each time hehe oh it was great and i have Rinoe so if i get invincleble moon she'l be dead in no time oh i miss defeating her *switches on playstation*..xXx...

Id go look for more strong magic to junction and have your GF's learn more abilities. Get strong GF's like Bahamut and if you're interested get Eden. Not to use them but to junction them. Use your GF's abilities to refine as many Ultimas and other strong magic as possible and juction it to Str and HP. My strtedgy that Ive always found succesful.

load quistis with some auras, and have her perform mighty guard, then follow that with a holy war. if you dont like holy wars or the idea of invicibility, then just use mighty guard to give you an advantage. keep up with auras and limit breaks (squall and irvine are mighty fine examples) and use quistis to heal with her white wind (is that the name?) blue magic and shockwave pulsar if you can spare it. at one point near the end, ulti does a 9998 attack on someone/everyone. quistis's white wind heals you for the difference in your max health compared to your current. so, at 1 HP the blue magic heals you for 9998 if your max is 9999. did i word that right? oh well you know what i mean. quistis was my lifesaver the last time i fought ulti, though it was my first time using her. though now i think ill use quistis more often, shes so underrated *sigh*

Ultemica was very simple, her final form had very cool music and the one your fighting now very easy.

Solution:
Vitality:Get it VERY high, I got my vitality to max and Griever's Shock wave pulsar did a weak 38 damage to my character's.

To face Ultimecia and expect to win, you have to be prepared. Having your characters leveled up to their max, have most of the GF's and have eveything junctioned all right is a sure way to win. When I fought Ultimecia, she had Irvine, Squall and Zell up first. Selphie, Rinoa and Quistis never even saw the battle. I had 11 Holy Wars, they lasted me the whole battle. The only time the three guys got hit was in between the Holy War running out and getting a new one onto the guys.

The battle takes patience, and you really need to be prepared. Having Holy Wars really helps to.

Level up your characters and your GF's (so their damage is decent). I've forgotten which card refines into some Holy Wars, but someone else is sure to know.

Last night i fought her for the first time i lost the first time and then won now that i knew about shockwave pulsar i just let squall bi n the yellow while i kept rionas health up with recover so she could focus on revive ability zell on recover and squall on limit breaks when ulti went final form after she used hells judgement i got invinceble moon and just kept using renzokuken after she dies the ending video screws up so i do it all for nothing :( :cry: :mad2: but it was fun getting all the gfs best weapons and all the limitbreaks and ulti was fun plus i actually got squall and riona to lv100 zell lv92 irvine lv24 quistis lv12 selphie lv10

Shock wave pulsar is annoying isn't it?.

Has anyone experienced Ultemicas (Final form) "Apocylpse" move?,I always kill her first.

Level up? No don't do that or you'll level up Ultimecia!
The higher Squall’s level is, the higher the bad guys' are.
I 'd say get some random battles and draw as many spells as you can from all the different monsters you find.

If you have Diablos' Encounter-None, you can leave the castle and go to the Islands closest to Heaven and er.. monkey... Anyway once there, you find the draw points, then you get one hundred Ultimas and Junction them to elemental resistance. Once you have that done, you'll be impervious to any elemental spell.

So by drawing from the islands, and Junctioning the spells i.e. tornado, triple... you should be able to beat her with little to no problem.

The Island Closest to Hell is your best friend.

Final Fantasy VIII has been sitting on my shelf collecting dust since I failed to beat it about 3 years ago. I don't remember my stats at the time I tried to defeat the end boss, all I remember is spending 3 HOURS in battle, defeating one boss after another, and never getting close to the end. Finally, I was wiped out. :mad:

I was extremely upset at the outcome. I don't mind difficult bosses for the end battle, but to have the battle last 3 hours and getting wiped out was not what I would call "an enjoyable experience." :mad2:

I do plan on, one day, playing it again and trying to complete it. Maybe after I complete Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, and after I beat Final Fantasy VII again. Who knows. :cool:

There's nothing wrong with levelling, so long as you do it properly.

with the bonuses attached, namely.

Yes, that's true. Ifrit doesn't level up... but that's only because he is the first boss. Every singel other boss in the game (except Omega who's permanent at level100) levels up with your characters. But most bosses have a max and minimum level limmit that they can't pass. For example... the false president boss will never be able to get to level 100 etc.

Sorry Odaise but I had to make you lose. Why, you ask? 'Cause, y'know, when you defeat a boss, he's dead. And Ultima Shadow most definetely wasn't when he posted here last time. You just should find Ruby Weapon in underwear from somewhere. Rinoa scanned Ultima Shadow and found out it's his weakness, u remember? Okay, sorry for offtopic.
As for topic, I remember Ultimecia was quite easy. I had been using the stupid little minigame (can't remember the name) to get 99 friendships and raised my chars to lv 99 to get enough HP. Then I made sure everyone could use items and threw the friendships at her and healed when necessary. No big deal.

Actually, there is a way to get your very own Ruby weapon in underwear. This is slightly off-topic, but...

In FFVI, there is a man in front of the fanatic's tower who offers to tell you a secret if you pay him 100000 (i quess that is proper amount of money). Only in SNES version. Pay him the money. Go to map and return. talk to him again. He will offer to tell you another secret for another 100K GP. Pay him the money. He will say a serie of numbers
(e. g. 5-845-2782-678-1) This changes in every time you play the game. Go away and to your airship. As in our example, head north from the top of Fanatics tower and tap the A button 5 times. Then turn to east and tap the same button 845 times etc. When you get all steps done, land, get off and press A button heading north.
When you get there, PM me and I'll tell you more.

Wow onyl FF gives you such annoyingly difficult side quests to accomplish.

And don't forget... to get Ruby Weapon to put on the underwear, you'll have to beat her without materia in FFVII first. :greenie:

I've been training at the Island Closest to Heaven with the Vitality and HP bonuses junctioned. Can you believe it? (Puts on high-pitched voice) I gained ten levels in a whole hour at the ICTHeaven! :D

Why, oh....WHY are you using Rinoa to try and beat Ultimecia? IRVINE a must, QUISTIS a must, and Squall.... only cuz of Lionheart tho.... if you managed to get those wicked bullets *cant remember name* and get Irvine to Break, those bad boys can do 9999 per hit..... and Quistis does Shockwave Pulsar too if given Dark Matter in her breaks..... and that puts a whoopin on those b@$t@rd$! I found her difficult even with maxed stats and Lionheart.

Aura= the best thing EVAR! make sure you have 100 aura stones stocked in yout inventory and 100 aura magic to for everyone. and megalixers are a must also. <3

I attempted Ultimecia around level 60-70, I'm not quite sure, since it was about 5 years ago.

I don't remember it ever being a problem though, so logically, that was a suitable level.

I did not have lionhart equiped, and I don't remember upgrading many other weapons as well.

I never quite got used to the whole "junctioning" system, and therefore, I didn't junction very much, but I did have 99 megaelixers, which I think were my key to success.

It took me a few attempts to try, but over-all, Ulimecia wasn't extremely difficult.

I basically recommend leveling up about 20-30 levels (Ultimecia will, inevitably level up with your stats, yet your stats will grow faster than hers will be able to). Alternatively, you could just go to the lost island, and get the 99 megaelixers, which should help you a lot. Just figure out a good stratagy, and your set!

Do you have any cards? If so learn quezacotls card jnc ability and turn your powerful cards into items.

Easy way to get uber stats that will let you beat anything:
-Play Triple Triad....lots. Seriously, you can get any item you need this way and therefore any magic. No running around looking for obscure monsters for 1 or 2 of a particular spell- get 30 in one hit.
-Learn Enc-none. "But I need experience!" No, use this to do laps around the islands closest to hell and heaven, yet more uber spells. Train when you've emptied all the draw points.
-For the love of God, win either the Laguna card (100 hero refine) or Gilgamesh (10 Holy Wars!) Easy fights :)
-If you kill off anyone who you dont want in battle Ultimecia will have no alternative but to replace them with the characters you do want ^^
-Cast Cerberus as an opening move, double+triple means one character can revive the whole party without using multiple turns! Better yet, triple haste+triple aura+ holy war. You cant be hit, your ultra fast and you get limit breaks! Especially effective with Rinoa, just as holy war runs out she might use invincible moon.

Thats all the ideas I can think of- other than trying to use "The End". :P

Its quite easy to win this fight if you go about it properly.

If you're still using angelo as rinoa's limit break, maybe you SHOULDN'T use her.

Angelo rocks! Angel Wing is royally useless as it means revieving the party its damn near impossible if Rinoa is the last one standing. Worked fine for me, besides which wishing star is uber!!!!!

Riona's really just there for backup and magic like Curaga and Esuna.

You play the game enough and anyone can be used for healing. Im just saying that Invincible Moon can easily pull a player out of a tight spot.

I guess just .....um..... yeah, just consolidate all the useful tips I and all these other fabulous peeps have been giving you, and give it another go....

Also, you should try to be at a point in your levels and magic that ANYONE can pull your fighting team from the brink of death. Don't put all your faith into one character for healing purposes, cuz if the character croaks, you're in a bad way..........

I see you've never had teh fun that is leaving just Ultima, Meteor, Flare, and teh level 3 elementals(if even them) and the curative magics in her inventory. Magic+as much as you want and Speed+ and Auto haste.

you pretty much have a killing machine there. Hands free, and she's friggin' fast. Especially if she uses meltdown a lot, then your other people can attack even better. When you're going against the harder monsters, physical attacks start not getting anywhere near maximum damage limit. I'm thinking of elnoyles, right nowxDD

The first time I played through FFVIII, my stats were kinda laughable. I got everyone to level 100 and everything, but I never mastered the Junction system. I got to the end and never attempted to fight Ultimecia. I played through twice more. Once, junctioning properly, finding all the secrets, then wrecking Ultimecia. Next, game timer- 26 hours. All characters were on level 13 or below and had their original weapons. Finally, though, after 6 years, I did beat the game with my original file. The final boss battle took me 4 hours though. Insanity

Oooh, did I hate that battle! It's the only FF game I've played that I've never beaten twice. I was 11-12 when I first beat it, so that may be why to do this day I say it's the hardest final boss of all the FF games. Sephiroth and Jenova were easy enough, Kuja/Necron were challenging but easy still, and Jecht was annoying but I got through ok. It took me several tries before I could even get to the third form, which was hard enough. I cheated and used the Kamikaze move, which is an instant killer for a form. Sadly, it is a doube sided sword, because I lose the ability to get another member. It was hell getting though that battle, but I was 11-12 as I said, so maybe I'm more advanced now lol. I may just replay it to fight her again...

Cheaper tactic to beating any regular enemy than angel wing/ great magic list. try junctioning 100 deaths to your status attack or 100 zombies. Either it kills instantly or you can use the revive command to kill. I can see why people rate angel wing as a plus but I always prefer full control over my characters.

Don'cha all just hate how final bosses have multiple forms???...it's like...

Eat THIS!!!!!! {yawn}...[drool}...SLAM!!!!!!!! Falls asleep on keyboard, Squall starts doing the chicken dance. Sadly, I'm sleep deprived and don't see any of this.
I wake up to see that, of course, I'm dead. I reload...this time she will DIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Of course that was like my tenth attempt, and I'm starting to go Crazy...

Was annoying. I never played all the way through again after I beat Ultimecia the first time.

I did, and decided to level up that time before I fought Ultimecia...what a mistake.

Well, I don't know... I leveled up to around 70 (Squall), 62 (Riona) and 58 (Zell) and I managed to get past the Ultimecia/Griever combo, but I was defeated by the next incarnation of Ultimecia. She's appeared in more shapes and forms than Dr. Who :mad:

Mind you, I was fairly lucky. Odin's bigger brother (whatever his name is) appeared and took 9999 off Ultimecia and the GF together. Riona does know Wishing Star, and that took off around 45000 in HP. She even managed to use it twice, but I only saw Squall's Lion Heart once - though it did do alot of damage - around 5000 for a normal hit and 8000 to 9999 with the trigger pulled.
