2 things navy SEALs are taught....

So a friend of mine sent this to me in my email. I thought I'd share it with you guys...

Two things Navy SEALS are always taught:

1. Keep your priorities in order

2. Know when to act without hesitation

A college professor, an avowed atheist and active in the ACLU, was teaching his class. He shocked several of his students when he flatly stated that for once and for all he was going to prove there was no God.

Addressing the ceiling he shouted:

"GOD, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes!!!!!"

The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by.

"I'm waiting God, if you're real knock me off this platform!!!!"

Again after 5 minutes, the professor taunted God saying,

"Here I am, God!!! I'm still waiting!!!"

His count down got down to the last couple of minutes when a SEAL, just
released from the Navy after serving in Afghanistan and Iraq and newly
registered in the class, walked up to the Professor. The SEAL hit him full
force in the face, and sent the Professor tumbling from his lofty platform.

The Professor was out cold!! The students were stunned and shocked. They
began to babble in confusion. The SEAL nonchalantly took his seat in the
front row and sat silent. The class looked at him! and fell silent....
waiting. Eventually, the professor came to and was noticeably shaken. He
looked at the SEAL in the front row. When the professor regained his senses and could speak he asked:

"What is the matter with you?! Why did you do that!?"

"God was really busy protecting America's soldiers, who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff like that and act like an idiot!!! So he sent me!!"

AMEN!

I seem to be missing the point... "Navy Seals have a God-given right to be wantonly violent against people they consider stupid"?

"Keep your priorities in order" and "know when to act without hesitation" are good advice for Special Forces, but that hardly justifies being a moron during a college class.

Actually, I'd be inclined to believe that entire story is a hoax. I don't see how a college professor would make such a transparent mistake. What he proposed would not "prove there is no God". It's stated in the Bible and elsewhere that God doesn't respond to people who try to 'test' his existence in that way. Even "avowed Atheists" know this.

I agree, it is kind of amusing. Take away the overtones and whatnot, and you've got a classic case of someone getting a blunt, direct message about thinking they know more than they really do:)

I took this whole thing as one of thoes long winded jokes. and when taken that way it is Funny :P

I think it's a nice story. Of course, it's obviously fabricated and intended as one of those things to make the e-mail rounds, but it's still nice. No need to look too far into it.

Amusing, but flawed. Just like everyone else has said. But, it was kinda funny, and despite my anti-christian (well, anti-bible) stance, I'm quite religious, and the greatest miracles are the ones inspired by divinity, yet carried out by humanity. This'd be right up that ally, if it wasn't bull.

One of those jokes that are really quite amusing if you ignore the propaganda.

Another example of this joke would be:

I agree with Dee and Ashlee, except I didn't find it funny at all. Infact, it seems more like an insult to U.S. Navy SEALS than anything else.

It's an insult to our intelligence is what it is.

I don't see how it would be an insult to any military personell...or really, anything at all. In fact, if "Navy SEAL" was replaced with "U.S. Army Engineer", I would enjoy it even more.

This was intended to be a lighthearted topic, not to offend anybody or incite insults. C'mon y'all, don't screw it up, just let it be.

I think the point DMKA was trying to make is that it suggests that military personell are inherintly violent people and they "know when to punch someone in the face"

The "joke" mentioned that the SEAL knocked the professor from the platform and knocked him "out cold". I'd say that'd be more flattering than insulting.

How is it not self-centered? It mocks the other point of view, paints atheists as jerks, and makes Christians and the military these noble folks, who, by the way, are completly allowed to punch other people in the face for their opposing views. What if it had been the other way around? What if a Christian guy had been standing there and saying "Hey, God totally does exist, those of you who dont believe it are stupid!" and an atheist punched him in the face? (I cant think of some witty 'knock off the table deal'). It's a very propoganda based peice of writing (and yes, I do believe very strongly in God, but this disgusts me, and my disgust has nothing to do with the Navy SEAL and military themes) and, for people who do believe in a loving God, it seems very counter productive to me.

Very adult. Don't lump people all together. Just because people arent the same doesnt give them the right to beat people. My dad spent two and a half tours of duty in Vietnam, but it doesnt mean he can smack people around.

And as to the 'getting heckled by liberals', is it so 'liberal' to think it's wrong to punch someone in the face because they say something you dont agree with? I thought that was a basic concept we learned in grade school.

Well like i said when you experience combat your never the same person you were before hand.

I'm not saying they are. But that doesnt make it okay to hurt another person. Period. It's not okay to hurt someone because they're wasting time or saying something another person disagrees with, or even just being a jerk in general. Every student in that (fictional) classroom has the option of getting up and walking out if they didnt like it.

It doesn't matter if you "change" after fighting in a war, you are still obligated to follow the basic code of conduct and propriety in our society. That means not being allowed to hit someone just because you think they're "being a bastard".

I don't see how the "you change from combat" thing would apply here. It's referring to the SEAL as having a tough, don't-take-no-crap, I-ain't-got-time-to-put-up-with-this attitude, not somebody who has been in war and thinks punching random people is perfectly fine. Yes, being in combat changes people. A lot. Ask any modern soldier (that's seen combat), and we didn't have it anywhere near as bad as soldiers did in Vietnam. But unless you're one of those people, you don't realize how, or to what extent, it changes you.

If the story had said the guy PUSHED the professor off the platform, would that make y'all happy? Obviously this story probably isn't 100% true, it may have been somewhat based from a true scenario but chances are it was made up to convey a message, not tell a nonfictional story.

I still dont see how that makes it okay to punch someone. And no, it wouldnt make me happy if he'd pushed the guy. I dont believe anyone has the right to punch or push anyone, for any reason short of being assulted by the other person in the first place.

I'm sure this story isnt true at all. I'm merely saying that I dont agree with people who're saying the man deserved it, or it's okay, because I dont believe it is. It'd have pissed me off if anyone did it, no matter what their profession is. I dont see how it's an inspirational story, because I dont see how it's a good thing to assult someone who has a different view. It's certainly not like I agree with the fictional professor, I just dont think its okay to assult someone.

Sure. There's nothing wrong with that, and really I'm not against telling off the professor. I just dont like people physically hurting others for disagreeing with them.

Given that he is a professor*, be probably knows more than someone who can't come up with any rational rebuttal and whose only way to "prove him wrong" would be violence.

The professor believes that there is no god. There's proof that there is no god?

As I've said countless times before, there is no "proof" of the existence or non-existence of a higher power. This professor believed that there is no god, and that's what his faith goes toward. There would be no way to prove somebody this arrogant wrong without "proof" of the existence of God, which doesn't exist, so the SEAL handled it in a more practical manner. The professor says, "if there's a god, He'll knock me off this platform", and the SEAL thinks, "I believe in God, and the only way to make the point that it's ridiculous to say 'there is no god' is for him to be knocked off that platform."

Id have enjoyed the whole thing a lot more if he left out the part about god being too busy. Just knocking him off and taking his seat would have worked fine. Nice story though. I guess god exists as long as you believe in him.
