I'd change the storyline as follows:
1. Edea and her (SPOILER)possession by Ultimecia would be apparent from nearly the begining of the game.
2. They didn't all grow up together and forget about it later. That was dumb.
3. The story would include more screen time for the secondary characters, not just Squall and Rinoa.
4. The SquallxRinoa relationship would evolve clearly and slowly, not pop up randomly 3/4 of the way through.
5. Ellone's role and Ulty's motives would be laid out.

Number 2: Well, it kinda made since in a way. They were fated to meet and know each other some how. And they had clearly stated from teh begining that Extended use of Gardian forces causes memory lose.

Number 4: The SquallxRinoa relationship happened just like most teenage relationships happen, 3/4 of the way into it. They fall in love quickly because thats how teenagers do it. How many teenage relationships do you know grow and evolve slowly?
I agree with you that the fact that they all grew up together is important in regards to "fate" thing, so let me clarify. What I take issue is the plothole that they all COMPLETELY forgot their entire childhoods except for Irvine, who chooses not to say anything until 3/4 of the way through the game. Yes, it makes some kind of sense, but the memory loss is a forced plot point so that we as gamers can be surprised that they were together later in the game (like the whole Ulty thing). I mean, yes, they were young, but they weren't random classmates that could be forgotten. They LIVED together. It would be akin to forgetting your siblings, or at least your close friends as children. I mean, I don't remember everyone in my kindergarten class, but I certainly remember the 5 girls I was best friends with, despite the fact I havn't seen them for years.Quote:

Haha - that's true. However, since we play as the inside of Squall's head, as his character, we should have had some clue that he was more intrigued by Rinoa than he seemed. I've explained this in other threads, but I'll sumerize: I think that physically (meaning what actually happens onscreen between the couple, how they interact, what they say, etc) the game is very realistic in their character development. HOWEVER, since the game does provide us with their inner thoughts as well, it failed on progressing their emotional relationship more slowly. How each felt towards each other to themselves, even if they didn't express it. Rinoa was slightly better at this, but Squall needed some more of an inner dialogue with himself about it to make the leap from "go away, you annoy me" to "I want to hear her voice! I'm ready to die for her, ahhhh!" :pQuote:

When Rinoa collapses at the end of disc 2 Squall thinks to himself, "problem solved". The End.
I'd really want them to go into more detail about Rinoa and Seifer's relationship. They could've done a lot with that, but instead chose for it to not go anywhere. It was clear that they both felt something for each other and it would've been nice to maybe see some kind of flashback at the very least. I guess that's just another one of FFVIII's under developed plots. I'd also want the other characters to have more of the spotlight. They focused too much on Squall and Rinoa when they had quite a few other great characters that they could've done quite a bit with. Don't get me wrong though, I loved FFVIII, I just would've liked for it to have some other more developed plots. :)
Edit: Oh yeah, and I wonder would've happened if Squall and Quistis were the main pairing and then Rinoa ended up with Seifer? :p
y'know i recon zell should have ended up with quistis you might as well everyone else was laying each other.
Zell and Seifer should have hooked up.
And Rinoa should have died and Squall should have banged Quistis.
As for shiva blizzard's number two, well, it has to happen sometime to occur often enough to be cliche:P
although now that I think about it, I can't think of anything off the top of my head that relies on that plottwister-_-

Yeah...how true, last year I was going with this girl, and no matter what I did, I couldn't figure her out. I thought she was SO annoying, but I couldn't take my eyes off her. At that time I guess I didn't know I maybe "loved" her, but it dosen't really matter cuz' she dumped me. (kinda like the Squall and Rinoa relationship, but Squall dosen't get dumped...)Quote:

they should make the Ultimecia's point of view of the game :p !!
It would have been nice if they had made the following more clear.
1. Squall was Laguna's son
2. Rinoa is Ultimecia
3. Whether what happened in the end was really what Ultimecia wanted.
Basically, some more developement on Ultimecia would have been good.

I like Shiva's list. The orphanage thing was kind of dumb, and it would have been nice to see some more involvement of the other characters.

I don't think Rinoa gets herself in trouble a lot. Only once I recall.
I was pretty content with character devellopment by the way. Side quests revealed a *lot* about them all. And showed a lot of history of the world they lived in as well. Like the whole Hyne bit, a lot of people missed that. Then again others didn't and wrote great fanfics based on that information. :) (SPOILER)(For those interested; the most lengthy part of information about Hyne can be found on the White SeeD ship ;) )
Oh and as a side note, Mercen-X's post covers Squalls feelings perfectly imho ^^

She got in trouble WAAAY more than once. I listed all the times below. Highlight to read.
1--When she tried to give Edea that ring, she got put under a spell.
2--Shortly after that, monsters come after her.
3--She almost falls off Balamb Garden.
4--She gets possessed.
5--She almost dies in space.
6--She almost gets sealed in the Sorceress Memorial.
7--Adel grabs her, sucks power away from her. She's could die.
I decided to start all over on FFVIII. I wanted to some time ago. I'm well aware I missed some stuff. :)
I didn't say she didn't get in trouble more than once. I said that she didn't get herself (or others for that matter) in trouble more than once.
The first point you listed, was completely her own fault. Stupid and irrational. The second point I'd put together with the first one: after all (SPOILER)If Edea had just walked out, without sending the lizards after Rinoa, then Rinoa wouldn't have been in trouble at all now would she ;)
I'll stick within the spoiler warnings for the next few, since they are indeed spoilers :)
3-- She hardly smashed G-Garden into B-garden herself now did she. And she was there helping, not just idly lounging or whatnot. Further more I can only speak for myself on this ofcourse, but I can only hope I'd have her quick reflexes and be able to hold on as well as she did. Most typical heroines can't even manage that.
4--Hardly of her own choice, I'm sure you'll agree. ^_~
5--Direct consequence of 4.
6--Same as above. Yet this is a decision she makes for the better good of the world. This took guts imho. Squall was being 'selfish' for wanting to save her. Thank goodness he was though ^_~
7--You may have a point there: she should have been more on guard considering what they were getting themselves into. But again not really something she got herself into ^^
I do understand what you mean though, she does indeed get in trouble a lot. But if she wouldn't, the story would not have happened, so it did serve a purpose. And she did try to sort things out on her own, rather than just 'be rescued' (even though it did turn out like that in the end usually :p )

oh, Teng you're a riot. Headmaster Cid is gay? I thought he was Robin Williams. They should have had Cid as another character and the headmaster at Garden would be Headmaster Robin Williams.
But seriously, they should have let you rename all your characters with 9 characters like FFVII.
