Im looking for a meaty arguement as most of the population on here are rock fans who i have nufin agaisnt by da way
I prefer not to compare/contrast musical genres in terms of their superiority. It makes me itch.
Care to specify what generation/style of hip hop? I'm all for the oldies and some nerdcore hip hop, plus turntablism or stuff that's just kind of ambient beats but no lyrics.
The mainstream gangster bullsucks, though. Especially with all the white suburbanites that take it as gospel.
I have a wide variety of genres occupying my playlist - I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to music, and I don't really pay attention to genre too much. I listen to whatever sounds good to my ears.
Here's one for you:
Experimental Folk > You
No.
How about * > You?
I'm with Pure Strife on this one...
Classical > Rock > Country > Trash > Lice > Bacteria > Intestinal Infection > Death by Strangulation > Hip-Hop
Um... DUH!!
ROCK
Dude, this question should be illegal.
This whole argument is objective. I Love REAL Hip Hop and I love Rock. By REAL Hip Hop I mean underground hip hop, where cash doesn't control output, same as rock really.
Hip Hop Like, Jedi Mind Tricks, Atmosphere, Sage Francis to Notorious BIG. There is fantastic hip hop out there. Unfortunately most people who are new to it or just haven't bothered TRYINg because all they see is the Fake Thug Bling Bling B**ches n Pimps Garbage you see on MTV.
But yea you can't really have a better>worse argument on this.
The thing about hiphop and rock is the fact that they both have the same orgins. The Blues. In which the blues originated from spiritual songs slaves use to sing. Now we consider them church songs lol. They are both goo dgenres i hate mainstream rap and R&B and mainstream rock mainly because it has apop sound to it.I like stuff that rarely get sheard.
Nas > hip hop :p
Pretty much ANYTHING > hip hop. Hip hop > Avril Lavigne though. :)
Calling virtually any Hip-hop or rap music is an insult to the medium as a whole.
The Wiggles > Hip Hop
My good friend dated the DJ from Atmosphere. Anyway, I agree with you.Quote:

Still is, he's not actually 'in' Atmosphere, Atmosphere is Slug & ANT (used to be Slug, Stress, Spawn & ANT) with Mr Dibbs taking the Tables as ANT doesn't Tour or perform he just drops the beats. They're all on Rhymesayers label though. <3 Rhymesayers
"Rock helped influence Hip-Hop, Hip-Hop helped influence the world."
ah ok, I thought it was something like that. cool.Quote:

Except for the classical before rock, I agree with this.Quote:

I agree with Neel.
I'm posting because you copied this link in IRC. Damn you, foaffles! >_<
hip > hop
depends on what kind of rock your talking about. if your talking about gay ass emo rock my chemical romance or the used, then yes, hip hop is better. however, i tend to lean more towards rock, but theres nothing wrong with hip hop either.
ME > Everyone else.
But yes its better. Most of the time.
hip hop = musical genre
rap = bunch of neanderthals with microphones
prove me wrong
:D
yer rap is not really my thing but saying there just a bunch of 'neanderthals with microphones' is just wrong.
DNB ( drum and bass ) which none of you would know of is mainly people with microphones and its great.
i'm with Cuchulainn on this one...other peeps like dead prez, non phixion, and k-os can really rock a mic...crap you see on TV is just commericial, they'll be gone in a yearQuote:

genre's can't be superior to each other (technically)...rock and hip hop both have their history...i find the history of hip hop more interesting, guys like kool herk, jazzy jeff, pete rock, cl smooth....very cool people to learn about
Oh?Quote:

And I'd like to keep it that way. The way it sounds is overall much more pleasing to my ears, as are the lyrics, and the actual people in the bands themselves.
Go rock.
:D
Led Zeppelin > all other real rockbands > hiphop > nu-rock like Maroon 5, Green Day etc > mass-hip-hop & rap.
I prefer a much rougher style, but when it comes to rock, Led Zeppelin is unbeatable. And that's it.
you used the wrong sign silly
Hip Hop < Rock better now
Well this thread is going to be Locked now.
As a matter of fact, I didnt get the sign wrong
Hip Hop >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rock
...By definition of it being Drum and Bass, shouldn't it mainly be you know, Drums and Bass Guitars rather than vocally heavy?Quote:

anywayz DNB = Drum and Bass, but the bass dosent mean guitars
wtf? really hip hop is just asnnoying rhymes about cars, women drugs, jewelry and other random crap. the only hip hop artist i like is eminem.
hip hop is responsible for charvas/chavs!
What a load of crap..Quote:

Can't put it any better than that.Quote:

Then what does it mean? Is it music consisting of people playing the Double Bass?Quote:

I like how you don't say WHY you think Hip Hop is better than Rock, you just say it is. Call me old fashioned, but I like music that requires talent. I enjoy synth-pop like Depeche Mode, but that's about as poppy as my tastes run (with an exception for really good singers). I don't like rock bands that don't have a good talented vocalist, which means I don't like any Hardcore or Metal.
Oh my god. I found someone a lot like me. I crave good vocal talent, since I love to sing. That's why I love Christina Aguilera, even though her music isn't that great.Quote:

Rock rocks over hiphop anytime!!
Evanescence are better than any hip hop band good vocalist music and stuff like that even Guys like Alice Cooper are great metallica good
but Eminem is alos very good
This has pleased me greatly. Amy Lee has an amazing voice, which to me, more than the great piano, and the rest of the instruments (which to be perfectly honest, the guitarists in Evanescence aren't great. 'Tis the truth. I'm hoping now that Evanescence has a new guitarist, they get better in the guitar area. We'll see on November 5th, the release date of the new Ev CD) because the main focus in the band is Amy's beautiful voice.Quote:

hip-hop > rock WOULD be true, that's if hip-hop wasn't hip-hop and rock was the "chewed up" grumblings of a strangely fertile and toothless old man in a wheelchair
oh wait
I say they're even though I have been with hip hop longer. Actually I say rap/ hip-hop beats rock by 4 hairs...
some1 clarify for me the subtle differences between rap and hip hop.
also, when 2pac was still around ruling the music scene (God rest his soul), his albums won awards for r &b AND rap. how is this possible?i never heard an ounce of r&b in 2pac. maybe the beat..but that doesn't constitute the genre...
basically, people have different moods and different emotions at different times. when im depressed or i feel overly aggressive, i tend to listen to hip hop/rap. when im in love or have been hurt emotionally, its emo/rock for me.
oh yah. hip hop>rock. tho im into the whole emo thing prolly almost as much. hip hop and rock are basically teh same thing, whether ppl like to acknowledge it or not....especially emo;they just use different mediums....
ie:hip hop:killing other ppl
emo:killing themselves.
:rolleyes2
If it wasn't rap it'd be something else, the large majority of these people are idiots and they need something to follow. And if rock had become the favour of choice of the violent idiot, what's to say the rest of us wouldn't be listening to hip-hop because we wanted a change from that which was flooding the mainstream?Quote:

Everyone has their own Opinions. Yes, to me, Rock > Hip Hop. But Thats what i think. It dosn't make it true
