Do Emerald and Ruby Deserve Their Fate?

I was thinking recently since Ruby and Emerald are additional optional bosses, they are avoidable fights.

That would explain why they don't advance the plot the way Ultima, Diamond, and Sapphire do. But since the other three attack cities, you could understand the cities and party defending themselves.

Emerald and Ruby don't bother people; you have to pick the fights with them. So do they deserve to be killed? Certainly the prizes are nice.

I think they did since one day they've could have just gone psycho and started attacking everyone and everything like the other WEAPONS did

Ruby does. You can just tell it's sitting there, waiting for the right moment to crush Golden Saucer. Ruby... The weapon I never beat. I swear Ruby, someday, your life will be mine!!!!

I thought Emerald Weapon sunk the Gelnika? Or was that Sapphire?

I think it was Sapphire because Ruby and Emerald don't do anything in the FMV of the weapons waking up, except for walking off

It was probably Sapphire, seeing as how Emerald wasn't present in the original Japanese release of the game.

I think youll find that if you fly above ruby he will attack you automatically but... I thought they were being controlled by Sephiroth I cant remember the details much as its been a long time but if he didnt have control of them I believe that they shouldn't have died as they were weapons of the planet so basicly they were only trying to do what was best for the planet... dont forget that they did wipe out humans at the end of the game so the reason they attacked us in the first place because they saw us killing the planet they were trying to defend so in other words I dont believe any of them (Diamond/Ultima etc) deserved thier fate.

they all deserve their fate but there just gardians i suppose so they might not but them just killing to protect the planet makes them sound like robots because there incapable of indpendent thought.

Ruby and Emerald are just like Vegnagun in FFX-2, they are too powerful to be allowed to exist (in story terms, obviously Vegnagun is a wimp compared to these guys).

Maybe they didn’t deserve it as much as the other WEAPONS, but it was necessary for them to be destroyed for the survival of humanity.

They weren't being controlled by Sephiroth, no. They were trying to kill all living things, as Hojo states before their awakening. When they awakened, their objective was to annihilate everything. This was likely to send that extra Spirit Energy back to the Lifestream so that it could be stronger when facing whatever ordreal lay ahead.

It really wasn't a matter of "Homo Sapiens are a threat to the Planet. We must kill them." They were literally trying to kill everything. Ultimate even blows up an entire forest. That lake it hovers over late in the game that looks like a crater? There was a forest there on Disc 1. Ultimate has pulverized it. There's also a crater under the sea near Emerald WEAPON. It was possibly taking pot shots at the marine life.


Personally, I think the WEAPONs' fate was a fair one. They may have been protecting the Planet, but the Homo Sapiens had every right to defend themselves. Besides, some among them were looking for a way to stop Meteor themselves.

Just say humans DR Science.and vegnagun on FF X-2 was a joke of a main enemy and shuyin please stop takin the piss out of tidus hes using all of tiduses moves but at maximum suckiness.

Personally, I find it rather stuck up for the Homo Sapien race to apply the term "Human" solely to themselves. We use things like the capacity for sentience and complex thought and the ability to feel and to sympathize with others as ways of defining what is to be "Human," yet on shows like Star Trek where there are so many different races and species with all those characteristics, only the Earthlings get categorized as "Human." I think it's silly and arrogant, so I prefer to refer to Homo Sapiens as just that.

That's what I liked a great deal about Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The Homo Sapien race is simply called "the race of Man."

Funny you should mention Star Trek.

The offical guide to Deep Space Nine contends that H. Sapiens are human, while human-like races (like Klingons or Vulcans) are humanoids. I see nothing wrong with refering to our species as human. As for other sentient species, I think we should call them by whatever they call themselves.

In particular Star Trek VI tackles the issues of human-centrism, as when one Klingon explains to Chekov why she finds the term 'inalien humans rights' offensive.

And in a later scene Kirk tries to console Spock by telling him that he's 'only human'. When Spock says that's he's not human, Kirk confides that he thinks 'everyone's human', to which Spock comments dryly that he finds that remark insulting.

Anyways, back to the weapons:

Hojo's statement is certainly accurate about Sapphire, Diamond, and Ultima, but no doubt his speech was only referring to them, since Ruby and Emerald were added in later. What the game designers didn't do was show these two going on a rampage like the other three.

You have to [Edit: collide with] Emerald with a submarine and Ruby with the Highwind. In both cases you [Edit: can] to goad them into fighting. I can't blame them for getting testy.

That being said, I took them both out because I'm greedy and wanted the prizes. I just felt a little regret the last playthrough. Perhaps they really are too powerful to be let loose on the planet, but killing them them because they might wipe out humanity seems a little extreme.

90% of the time Emerald is the one who bumps into the submarine, not the other way around. Those bastards deserve everything they get.

OK, I changed the wording.

The point is that the party isn't goading Emerald into a fight if Emerald is the one who makes the collision and starts the battle, which is usually the case.

...sorry, miss-phrased that. What I meant was, in story terms, Vegnagun is just as dangerous, if not more than Ruby+Emerald. But in game terms, Vegnagun was rather weak.

It's certainly easy to accidently collide with Emerald given that it's often moving and it appears in different places when you dive or emerge from the crashed Gelnika. I try to avoid collisions with Emerald until I'm prepared to take it on and I usually am able to. But even if the party doesn't inititiate the collision, Emerald seems to regard it as provocation.

Fact:

Emerald Weapon has 1 million HP, but has weak skills.

and...

Ruby weapon has 700,000 HP, but has great skills.

Bottom line..........I HATE THEM BOTH!!!!!!!

sorry about that doctor science thing and stuff but its just barely anyone says homo sapien anymore i agree within lord of the rings saying race of men but there are elves and stuff and dwarves so they have a reason.there are a lot of other things though like scientist saying "felius sapien"or somethin like that instead of feline or simply cat but it just sounds so stupid some times.

back to the conversation.it is obvious for many reasons that they do deserve their fate.like being too powerful to be allowed to exist like vegnagun and also they dont just defend themselves but they try to kill others. so they do deserve it.

I think they both deserved to die, they were just rearing to strike waiting for the right moment to strike!

I found ruby easier than Emerald jsut use nights of the round with w-summon 4 times for ruby.

Ruby deserves to die. It made a trauma in my brain. Unlike Emerald.

eh? ruby is the easiest o_O if you know how(which I dont remember how, I haven't played FF7 for awhile) you can basically be invincible.

I believe it was something like.. counter attack.. everytime cloud gets attacked, he would cast KoTR with umm.. that HP absorb materia, so basically he would get attacked by a tentacle, then use KoTR, recover full health, get attacked by second tentacle, KotR etc etc, thats how I killed him.

No Weapon deserves to die! :( I love them all as if they were my own children! They are my cutie-cuties! :love:

I actually found the unavoidable deaths of Diamond and Sapphire Weapon to be extremely tragic... :cry:

I reckon they were just as dangerous, and just as much of a threat as anything else. At Junon, when Tifa wakes up, Barret explains that Weapon has been "goin' around tearing [img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img] up". He never says which Weapon; it's fair to assume that he's using the word in its plural form, the way everyone else does. 'Weapon', when used as a singular, refers to one Weapon - e.g. Emerald or Ruby. But when it's used as a plural, it refers to the Weapons as a group.

I'd say it's fair to assume that the others have been causing trouble. They're certainly aggressive enough. All you have to do is walk up to Ruby and it'll go nuts. Same for Emerald. Both will attack first, rather than waiting to be struck.

of course they should be destroyed... need is not the right word. I mean, did cloud need to try and save the earth, no technically not, he should try to save the world, but he didn't need to.
AND, neither weapon is difficult, I don't know how many times I have to say this about Ruby but you can cast STOP on him, or use Hades, it works. Then he's a sitting duck, or sitting weapon if you'd prefer. Emerald is easy too, even in under 20 minutes.

As for the homo sapien argument, it's stupid. Who cares if we call ourselves human, we invented the language we use anyways, so who says homo sapien is even a justified word for us to use. It really doesn't mean anything, cause think about it. The first word wasn't defined, and was used to create other words, which defined other words, and so on. Therefore, language is based off of something completely undefined. SO technically, I didn't really just say anything.

The planet created the Weapons to battle Jenova, but the planet managed to get her its self. So the Weapons went into Hibernation. From the start the planet knew that it couldn't control them, but created them to keep Jenova down, as they'd supposedly go to her first. When Shinra arrived they could sense the Malice, Murder and Corruption. (I think Cloud said Diamond could smell murder when trying to protect Midgar from it's onslaught.) The Weapon [Diamond] was also trying to only kill the evil Shinra people, as it ignored Cloud and group after said Cloud and group taught it a little lesson. Cloud and his group were just trying to prevent the Weapon from Killing/ Hurting innocent people. I personally think the Weapons were evil, but often sensed the will of Cloud's group when they beat them up. As one left after Cloud and group beat it up when protecting Mideel. That's all I'll say for now.

Actually, a few of the surviving Cetra are the ones that managed to confine JENOVA. The WEAPONs were the Planet's means of trying to deal with the creature.

The WEAPONs intentions were to eradicate all life on the surface of the Planet, as we're told in-game.

Once placed into hibernation, they would only activate during times in which the Planet's crisis level was high enough that the Planet itself might be in danger. Once activated, however, rather than seeking out the cause of the threat to the Planet and targeting it, they would destroy everything. Not just anything that might pose a potential threat to the Planet, as is often believed to be the case, but everything that was alive. They had no programming pertaining to the effect of "Seek out the cause of the planetary crisis and eliminate it." The programming was simply "Annihilate anything that's alive." We know this because of what information Hojo reveals concerning the WEAPONs at the Northern Crater before Meteor is summoned:

We are further able to ascertain this conclusion due to behavior of the WEAPONs that is mostly never shown, but is indicated either through dialogue or through us witnessing their visual results:

From this, we can ascertain that Hojo's information concerning WEAPON is correct, as Sapphire WEAPON, at the least, is going about attacking randomly ("...he's up here goin' around tearin' [img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img] up"). That the WEAPON had specific targets is not implied.

Something else to consider is Ultimate WEAPON's behavior, of which we can see both the results after the fact in one case, and the results as they occur in another. First to note is that once Meteor has been summoned and AVALANCHE acquires the Highwind, the area in front of Junon now features a giant crater into which the sea has flooded due to the Planet's surface in the area having been ravaged all the way out to the ocean. There was once a forest (full of life; full of Spirit Energy; take note of this for a matter to be brought up soon) in this location that has since been utterly destroyed, and Ultima WEAPON is found on Disc 3 of the game hovering over this crater, indicating that the WEAPON is what caused the damage to the Junon area:

Something of further consideration is that Ultimate WEAPON made an assault on Mideel, an area of the world in which its residents lived relatively in harmony with nature. Granted, they would have used trees to create their villages' structures, but for the most part, they were posing no threat to the Planet. There wasn't even a Mako Reactor on the entire continent on which Mideel resides, and the closest one would have been on the eastern continent at Fort Condor, with that Mako Reactor having long since fallen into disservice. In other words, the people of Mideel were no threat to the Planet and there must have been another reason for attacking them.

Here we come to the matter I previously mentioned in regard to the forest that Ultimate WEAPON destroyed: The link between both of these areas that posed no threat to the Planet were that they both contained Spirit Energy in the living beings present.

We already know based on what Hojo said concernin Gast's report and the behavior we see demonstrated by the WEAPONs that they will reduce "everything to nothingness" indiscriminantly, except in regard to differentiating between living targets/areas populated with life, and non-living targets/areas not populated with life. The WEAPONs' targets are creatures that contain Spirit Energy.

As for why this may be so, the WEAPONs only arise when the Planet itself is facing a crisis. During such a time, what would likely be of greatest importance to the Planet overall is its own survival. Thus, in having the WEAPONs annihilate all living things, they would be causing Spirit Energy to return to the Planet and add more strength to the Lifestream. For evidence of such a concept, we can look to Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis, in which Fuhito of AVALANCHE -- attempting to assassinate President Shinra -- tells the despotic corporation's head that his death will be of benefit the Lifestream:

Based on all of this, we can conclude that the behavior of the WEAPONs was not to target the source of the threat to the Planet, but to annihilate all life, strengthening the Lifestream.

Well if they are your children and cuties, then I am sorry to say but I have killed all your weapon children, AND IT FELT GOOD!!!! :D

I think they don't deserve any credit, only for been powerful & bitches to kill. Although it appears they're not doing anything, you can tell that Ruby Weapon is going to destroy the Gold Saucer & Emerald Weapon is going to cause some havoc in the ocean. Emerald desrves no sympathy most of all 'cause it just bumps into you most of the time. I recall bumping into it about 7 times when I didn't want to, I was just going to the sub & it's there!

i remember at one point i was so [img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img] sacred of emerald i woudkl trvael acroos the oceans surface to the other side and submerge by the goldne saucer dock, to avoid emerald.....only to crash into the bitch by the plane........damn sneaky SOB........so yeah...

they do deserve to die...very painfully.....very slowly.....muhahhahaa

I have a 2 save files. One the is almost finish in crater, waiting to kill sephiroth. Yes, I was flying around the golden saucer and I see this pretty red thing. I was curious so *pokes red object* and was watching the game over screen 15 seconds later.

The same exact thing happened with emerald, but in his case I hadn't saved for three hours.

How do you figure Planet-blasting cannon-wielding Vegnagun would lose to the weapons? OK. YRP had an easy time defeating it. But the Weapons would have been easy too if they were the Final Bosses ^_^ besides, Vegnagun was not a single battle. Just like the fight against Sin in FFX, you have to fight this massive thing in sections.
The Weapons are huge, but Vegnagun is practically the size of Zanarkand which is three times bigger than Midgar. If in FF7, you had the benefit of fighting the Weapons section by section, they would have been sooo much easier to defeat than Vegnagun.

Actually Emerald is the one you can use KoTR on. Ruby counters with devastating attacks the second you use KoTR once. The person equipped with this wonder summon is intsantly killed. The game-guide's own advice is to use W-Summon+KoTR on Emerald and Quadra+Bah0 Mime on Ruby. Because I've only got one mime, I can't actually complete this yet.

Yeah, he's a sitar legend from India, that also played and instructed the Beatles' George Harrison. Kishi forced the name change as an admin because I made fun of him. While he is cool, I don't think it would serve him justice taking his name.

"Deserve to die" and "whether or not they are fun to kill" are two different things. ^_^;

The Planet knows how to take care of itself, that is evident. The Planet is quite capable at keeping itself going. Of course, the Planet isn't one concious soul like a human (uh, homo sapien), it is made of Lifestream. It's not an issue of The Planet vs. Human Beings, it's simply the Planet surviving. The Weapons were created at first to destroy Jenova, a virus, and then woke them again to gather enough energy to stop Meteor. If humans had to die, so be it, says the Planet. It needed the life energy. That's that. Nature isn't always pretty, but that's how it works.

So I wouldn't say the Weapons DESERVED to die, they were doing their job. "Deserving to die" is certainly a matter of opinion.

But as far as I'm concerned, they were put in the game to be beaten, and they're a challenge and I enjoy the battle. So of course I'm going to. ^_^

I guess so after all they might just go crazy and go killing everyone and we don't want that do we?

A 4 year old child equipped with a toothbrush could easily have defeated Vegnagun. That's how patetic it was. The Size doesn't matter. Vegnagun can hardly move anyways.

Not really. Even Ultima Weapon which you actually fought multiple times, was tougher than Vegnagun. And Emmerald and Ruby are about 10 times as powerful as Ultima is in FFVII.

If 3 patetic, wimpy and freaky "Gullwings" can take down Vegnagun, then so can the Weapons. :p

umm bein as they whooped it up on me my entire 8th grade summer i havent beaten them even to this day....i hate then with the firey passion that everyone should....they ARE SIMPLY TOO STRONG...by tha way could somone plz help me with beating them.....i casted KOR on emerald for about 50 min straight....had final attack phoenix.....level 75 and up everyone.....the damn eyes kept regenerating....and i finally gave up

I have regretted it ever since being as that was the ONLY thing i have not accomlished in my 8 times of beatin the game plz help me

I think that it's a good idea to beat Emerald and Ruby Weapon, since you get the desert rose and earth harp for beating them. I suggest that you use Cloud, Yuffie and either Vincent or Barret (i prefer Vincent). It's the #1 party to use.

To Beat Ruby what I did was equip w-summon, hades, KOTR, and mime (with other components that are obvious such as cure). Then with only that character alive, use hades and KOTR and then mime. hades will sometimes stop Ruby and KOTR will of course makes tons of damage evetually killing ruby.

Anything with that much power should die there evil I hate them with such a passion it's not funny I almost hate them as much as Aeris

I never really considered the Weapons intelligent but... yeah, they are without a doubt smarter than a monkey. :D

Im going to kill both of them, not for moral reasons but just so i can say :
