when she died. Or did they just give her that likeable personality because they felt it fit the damsel in distress type of character.
So do you think they decided to make her so likeable only after they decided to have her die in the game in order to make the gamers shed a tear or two possibly. Or do you think the personality didn't have anything to do with the fact that she was going to die. And if they didn't have her die she still would have been given the same likeable personality.
Personally i don't find the character of Aeris that likeable..In fact i find Tifa's personality better in a lot of ways..
Anyway i do believe that Square did want to show that Aeris' death was a great loss to the game(the music,the whole background,Cloud's monologue etc..)to touch us emotionally but that's it..Life still goes on,there are two discs more and in fact,in a way Aeris make "invicible" appearances to some parts of the game after her death..
Aerith's death was certainly intended to make the players feel loss and was designed accordingly. That was what the Director, Yoshinori Kitase, said in an interview in EDGE magazine in April of 2003.
Honestly, however, I can't stand Aerith. I don't find her likable at all and wouldn't want to be around her. Tifa, however, is extremely likable in my opinion.
Honestly I liked Aeris a lot more than Tifa and when she died it did feel like a great loss. Oh and somewhere I read that cloud was first meant to fall in love with Aeris but then after they decided to make her die. But then again I also read the article in EDGE magazine where he states that the purpose of this was to make the person feel this great loss.
tifa kicks ass compared to aeris and for half the game she was better than cloud until he got ultima weopon and omnislash.aerises death is important to the story line and in fact it was vital to defeat sephiroth so i dont feel loss because she helps in a lot more important way later on.when i first saw her die i didnt care much anyway because here personality(espicially when she first meets cloud after the fight with airbuster (the huge robot).)is damn annoying and she sucks in battle.

But yeah, no doubt part of the reason she was given such a likable personality was so gamers would feel a great loss when she died. No great addition to the story otherwise.

Have you seen how she attacks? It's impossible to jump that high, and long, in a skirt like that. She had to die.
I thought Aeris had a much nicer personality than Tifa. I guess i just found Tifa boring. When Aeris died it came no shock (mainly cos a few years earlier i had seen my friend get up to that part) but even so it was pretty emotional. But not as emotional as when Barrets friends are killed in the sector 7 collapse, or when Red XIII finds out the truth bout his dad.....those parts were great :D
That's a misconception, actually. It's often believed that Sakaguchi's mother had died during the production of the game, but it's not at all true. my guess is someone interpreted "Final Fantasy III" as the U.S. Final Fantasy III (i.e. what was really FFVI) and the rumour took off from there. Your link doesn't address the possibility of that interpretation, just thought I'd point it out.

I think that she fit a certain type they were looking for, and found that she may be the best one to kill off because she possessed certain things that the others didn't. She was also what I always viewed as the harmless loving caring one, so when she died it was really sad. If it were Yuffie you'd be like "Ah [img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img], that sucks"

Aeris was a nice character, she's usually in my party during Disc 1. The feeling of loss is certainly a lot bigger due to the whole death scene. Aeris' theme playing during the whole scene, even the battle against Jenova*Life, Cloud's words, the lake funeral scene all add to the scene, no doubt. Even though everyone has a right to their own opinion, I still think it's emotionally quite immature for someone to laugh when someone dies, especially when it's not a comical scene at all, but a sad and an emotional one. I admit I was pretty much laughing when Palmer was hit by a truck or when Reno kicked Don Corneo down the cliff, but I could have never laughed during Aeris' death scene.
Yes, FFII had tons of characters, both playable and non-playable, die. I think the playable characters that die include FFII spoilersMinh, Joseph, Richard, and the NPCs that die include the King of Phin, Prince Scott and Cid. :( FFIIIj also had many characters die, but just like with FFIV, most of them were brought back to life later in the game. Those weren't your party members, but people who join your party, and they follow you all along and you can talk with them, but they won't join your battles. Anyway, some characters still died permanently in FFIII, such as FFIII spoilersDorga, Une and Elia, and the last of those 3 is the one who reminded me a lot about Aeris. She also had her beautiful and sad theme play when she died, and she also died when poison arrows shot by a water-elemental enemy (Jenova*Life is clearly water-elemental too) impaled her, and she died to save the Light Warriors. So I don't think the death of Sakaguchi's mother inspired him the concept of Aeris' death, though maybe (SPOILER)the death of Elia was somewhat inspired by the event.Quote:

I too liked aeris slightly more than the others, she was me fave chaacter. When she died, i wasn't that sad actually. (It was the first FF game that i played so....) I was more shocked! I was shocked that my main character has died, i spent a lot of time gettnig stuff for her and also i thought she seemed like an important part of the storyline (which she is!) ad for that, she would last the whole way through.

Laughing at a tragic death......i doubt that. It's like having your mother die of cancer and then cracking up laughing afterwards. Even if you hate your mother, when she dies, you're not gonna be happy. You're gonna feel sad. This kind of is true with Aeris' death as well. I did feel very sad, if not because of the whole atmosphere and the post-death ceremony. Sure she wasn't my favorite character, but just the way she had to die was tragic. And the fact that she was the Planet's only hope added to all that.
Aeris did have a good personalty, much better than a lot of other characters in FF games (like Quistis, Freya, etc.), so you cant say her personality sucked. I do agree Tifa has a better personality, and i probably would have been just as sad if she would've died.
In a way, Aeris' death made me like Tifa more. Before it i was like, "Whoa...shes hot & very nice" but after the death, Tifa really was there for Cloud until the very end. She was a loving, caring, and just terrific character. So, IMO, Aeri's death brought Cloud & Tifa closer.

I can agree with this part only. Tifa was the only character I really liked in FF7. But, while I didn't laugh or smile.. I didn't feel that sad by Aerith's death.Quote:
