Thoughts on the Archives.

So this popped up during a discussion RSL and I were having about whether or not to archive the "wanker" thread. I brought up the point there were several spam threads that were archived; however, none of them were as long as the one just generated. While he did end up archiving it, he did propose a good question to me, which I would like to propose to you all in turn.

Do you go to the archives and read through 661 posts of spam to get off or something? Do you read the small threads? Large threads? Ones you participated in? Ones which you had nothing to do with? In short, what function do the Archives serve to you? Justify.

The only reason I would go back and read that particular thread is that some of the posts were quite funny. That's usually why I read archive threads. Sometimes I like to see posts from members who are often referenced who left before I even joined, too. I've probably only read about 20 archived threads, though.

It were funny spam. Plus, I think that may be the biggest thread in such a short time. It should be there.

I'll wade through a thread if I'm supremely bored. Plus, it's always good to have "My stupid LIFE!!!!!" on hand for a chuckle.

I'd go and read it. It might seem completely random to someone who had no idea it was happening, but to the people who were actually doing it, it was hilarious, and pretty much every one of them has said it's their favourite thing they've ever been involved in at EoFF. So i'd keep it, yeah.

I opened a random page in that thread and saw text plastered on the top of my screen and decided it was not something worth reading.

Usually I go for the shorter threads or the ones I participated in. The ones from the game forums are always the best.

Um, I only go to the archives to look at photo threads, usually.

Well, you hear about all these people and stuff they did and said, but they're gone now, so sometimes I go to the Archives and see what they're famous for. :p xD

Yep, because there's hundreds of threads with 1000pt font and repeating images. Thousands, even! Definitely not original. Been done a miiiiiiillion times here at EoFF. :rolleyes2 As for wit, if you can find anything more witty than Sir Trevor McDonald then I take my hat off to you.

Now I feel all guilty about Yams. But it was a clever tactical move on his part. Now people can't demand for every spam thread to be archived, as he can say "We gave you wankers now shut up before I call you stupid".

Yams is always one step ahead of the spammers, who happen to be two steps behind the rest of the world, but let's forget about that for now.

Well, anyways... I particualrily like the archives because it's a great place to relieve boredom. That, and looking through posts by members like sayen. :p

I go to the Archives sometimes when I have time and am a little bored, which isn't very often. There is some good stuff in there, but the Wankers thread is definitely not one of them though and shouldn't be there, in my opinion.

I wish to view this thread of legend. Where be it now?

It is where it should be. Thread hell. And that's all there is to know.

Anyways, back on topic.

the archives are great except they remind me of the great threads long lost that were never archived. :salsa:

I look through them if I feel nolstalgic. Or if I missed out on something that I keep hearing it hilarious and/or awesome.
