Recommendations
I've been wanting to listen to a few new artists lately, because I'm started to feel like "I have 900+ songs on my computer and nothing to listen to." Could you recommend any good alternative or... I dunno how they would be described... bands similar to Nightwish and Within Temptation? You know with lots of orchestra? :)
People call it Goth Rock, but that label irritates me to no end as it's false. Nightwish could be labeled Opera Metal though. I'd prefer a female singer if you recommend any type of Opera Metal-ish bands, because I LOVE singers like that to death, but ones like Symphony X are nice too. I dunno if this type of thread is allowed so I guess to give it a second purpose, what's your favourite alternative rock band? :)

I don't like Nightwish or Within Temptation, but I really enjoy good symphonic metal, like Haggard, Hollenthon and Therion.
-
to hell with goth rock
-
Full Motion City Soundtrack rox.
-
I would recommend Type-O-Negative.
It can be sort of opera-ish metal, but maybe more metal. He's got a very deep voice, something like a tenor, or bass voice, I suppose, so its far from a female's voice.
Anyways, they're awesome. Give them a listen if you haven't already.

Tapping the Vein comes to mind, but that's probably just because of the female vocalist. They do an awesome cover of Cornflake Girl. They're kind of underrated though, really hard to find. Definetly not orchestra-ish.

Tapping The Vein impressed me very much. The reminded me of another good band with a chick singer, Head, that I like very much. Thanks!

i think you would be looking for a band called lacuna coil.
-
I already listen to them. They're pretty good, though not amazing.

ROLF HARRIS I DEMAND YOU DOWNLOAD ROLF HARRIS
-
ROFFLE HARRIS? Is he some kind of emo band that you're always pushing on me? xD
-
you should expand your Music Selection.........
-
That's not all I listen to, but it's just the type of music I'm looking for at the moment.
-
oh ok, errrrrrmmmm I dont know anything...sorry.
-
collide? a bit more mainstream type.
-
I think they're still pretty mainstream, but Deep Dish is pretty good.
-
-
You can't have a music collection without Roffle Harris.

Try Kamelot. I bought their latest CD, "The Black Halo" on the same day as Nightwish's "Once" and it's great. Their singer has a really good voice and there are female backing vocals on some of the songs...And yes, there is an orchestra on most of the tracks. Great Power Metal.
But, hey, there's always Dream Theater.
-
Iron Maiden, a great band that isn't quite like the rock you outlined but it's much better imo.
-
Go listen to The Butterfly Effect. No one seems to know who they are, but they're getting up the ladder on my list of favourite bands.

Everybody is free (to wear sunscreen)
-
Get some more Killswitch Engage, too.
-
I'll have to try these. Thanks everyone! Killswitch Engage is very awesome, I love that song you recommended me by them, Dan. What other songs by them are good? :D
-
My Last Serenade, Fixation on the Darkness, Rose of Sharyn...I can't remember anymore. There is a really suave little acoustic one on the album, but I don't know what it's called. I need to get the album. B)

Julien-K (derived from Orgy's musicians.) www.Julien-K.com You can sample pieces there. I suggest downloading some of their music. They've done soundtracks for Disney and SonicHeros.
-
Six Ounce Gloves. Fresno homegrown rock.

Maybe try The Gathering (I've only checked out their early albums such as Mandylion, Nighttime Birds and How To Measure A Planet where they apparently kept most of their "metal" sound) and White Willow (I liked Storm Season, their latest album). And since you mentioned you liked Symphony X, perhaps you can also try Adagio. Here are a few samples from their albums.
