So I once read in my school Social Studies text book that there was some place called Sanarkand. So bassically square took it from there and made one or two (Most likely one) modification's to it. As shown here..

But I also saw something else that was taken from historical features. But at the moment I can't remember it...
Square has been using historical and mythological names in their games since before you were even conceived.
