Well, I generally do whatever comes to mind. I'll try to make one about EoFF or its members, but I can't do that every time. Hope that's okay!

That'll be the Agony aunt section for UDH - With funny / witty responses etc, so it wont be really important/serious questions. Although, Jebus is very good at giving advice, so he'll have his own advice column too, which may be a little more serious.

Okay, just PM me in advance when I should start submiting my comics.

At the moment me and Marick/Dignified Pauper are just rounding up numbers to see who wants to get involved etc. Once we have them we'll start sorting people set duties/possible rota's. Once we've done that we'll most likely make a start on the Paper itself. We'll have 2 weeks each, well for the work it'll most likely be a week and 4 days. So we have enough time to gather things up and get them up onto the site for our deadline. 2 weeks shouldn't be too much of a hassle for people.

as well as a banner how about a slogan, somthig like " the EOFF Inquirer :more up to date fantasy news than you can shake a chocobo at " oh as well, is there a filesize limit for the banner ?

I like the names that have came up. EoFF Chronicles is one of my favourites. I'm no good with names, the first thing that came into my head was "lol internet monthly" and "Dude, where's my online/EoFF newspaper?" which are very silly. :p

Hehe, regardless people, if you see a name you like, please don't automatically choose that, GET INVOLVED - GET NOTICED. Submit a name if you can think of it, even if it's not the best name in the world, just give some idea's!

You may not think it's a good name, but the rest of us may ;)

With the comics it would be better to make each panel a seperate image instead of one big file so that it can fit easier into the space provided. I don't have the exact width limit yet, but I'll let you all know as soon as the design is approved.

As for names, I'm going to start compiling a list shortly after posting this, and thus. Lenna and I are actually really liking EFFing Nosey, however, as this will be a private vote through-out the staff of the newspaper, it will be decided at a later date.

This isn't a project that I feel is going to be finished in the next day or so, probably not til tuesday or wednesday, which is because of the heavy planning Lenna and I are putting forth.

Anyways, we're planning the layout with UDH.

I wasn't aware of how many names we had gotten, but these are the names we've been submitted in this thread. I think when we finally decide (and are organized enough) Lenna and I will go through, sort out the bad from the good and have the vote on the good ones.

Also, at first, many of you want to help, though for the first few issues, we may not have positions for you right away, as we're going to have to get used to it and figure out what we need etc. Start small and grow is easier than starting big and shrinking. Though, never fear, everyone who wants to help will sooner or later have something they can contribute and will.


Ultima88, that's a good wordearch, if the width was a bit bigger, it'd be better, but a good start. Definitely not bad.

Can I please remind everyone. This idea does not purely come down to me. I may have had the guts to start it off, but the idea had come from scatters of other members idea's.

I do not want credit alone for this.

For one, Dignified Pauper is definitely showing dedication to this and may put more in it than me, but I will show dedication. As it will be something I'll love doing. Without DP, there is no way I'd be able to make this a success. Not on my own anyway.

theundeadhero is putting alot of work into the layout of the paper itself, and is doing a really brilliant job. As he is the only person with more than a basic knowledge of coding, he is crucial to our finishing outcome.

As for the rest of you, we need you. Everyone who's volunteered for this should be praised far more than I. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself into something like this. To be part of a community. You may say that it's easy, but for some it's not.

I do not deserve any credit for this.

Lenna's right, but also wrong. It needed someone well-known and established and respected to start this. I for one, am not entirely respected by everyone here as much as she, and for this, she was right to start it. I will invest time into this, because it is a great idea, it's great practice for a serious writer, such as myself, and it'll just be interesting to see how the community responds.

As for now. I have a feeling we're going to have to put a lot of people who want to help on hold for the first few issues.

To be brutally honest and blunt, a lot of people will want to help, but I'm not sure if they realize some of the work that they will actually have to do. Sure, this is just an online paper for our local forum, but we want it to be good, and worthy of being affiliated with EoFF. Because of that, we are going to reserve the right to reject people's help at anytime. Some people may get lazy, and while I haven't talked to Lenna, I think she'll agree that when this happens, we simply say, thanks for the help, come back when you're ready to reinvest time in this. Also, you may want to help, and we may not like what you have submitted. Even if you've been helpful and we've taken and published your work, don't expect that because you've been in the paper that you will be in every issue. We'll take the best stories, as many as we think we will need, and put them there. If your's does not make the cut, sorry, but that's the way it is.
A lot of people, at the beginning, I think will be put on the back burner, a waiting list. I'm not expecting the first few issues to be full-scale greatness, just the start, to get the fundamentals down, to check talent, etc.


Anyways, it's 4:15AM I'm tired. Night all.

Seriously though, Tiff. You deserve all the credit you're given in this thread because it is your idea. You know I'm not one to boost your ego, but if you deserve credit, you should be given it. Other people are or will be getting their credit when they do their bit, too. It's all good. :)

So what's actually going to happen with the first issue? Are those who have signed up to work on it supposed to be looking for stories or whatever? I'm confused. :D

The newsletter plans to have an "advice" column where people write in questions and they are answered in the letter. It will be similar to what 8-bit theater used to do.

For those of you who are familiar with 8-Bit theater you already know about the "Twinking out with red mage/Ask evil princess Sara" sections they did. Those who don't know about them can click the link in my signature if your interested.

If you have questions you want "answers" to send them to me in PMs and I'll pick the best to print in the newsletter with answers.

It'd be cool if we had a small section towards the end of the paper where we let the people who read the paper make small comments and whatever, like they have in school papers sometimes and magazines.

Don't worry yet, we'll let everyone know when this gets started. It'll be a little bit before the first issue is released. So all of you wanting to help, we will let you know. But don't be looking now, as I said, we'll probably downsize the immediate staff at the beginning simply because not everyone will be needed. Not that you won't have anything to do with the paper, you can still vote on the name, however, we're not going to need you for any writing of stories and what-not. However, as this project goes along and grows and (hopefully) is popular, then we'll definitely add on as needed.

Let's also note that sometimes, the news has dry-spells. There may be times where the forum isn't the most busy, and then our paper is going to be smaller and that some stories simply won't be printed.

Also, one more thing. We're planning on setting up a forum for the newspaper staff. With this, hopefully we can avoid confusion when this thing starts. Many times, reporters won't communicate with eachother, will write stories over the same events, and then only one is published. In our case, that forum will be where the reporters request events to report on. Basically, first come first serve unless we, the editors feel otherwise.

I may seem like I'm being Nazi about this project, thanks to Manus... but I just know how these things get. I was on Highschool Newspaper class; I know how journalism in the very basic ways, and I want this to be a success.

If I did do a job Id like to do a small artical ones after the important ones.

Can I just say Marick, I already mentioned to UDH that I will be strict on deadlines. There is no way I'm going to let people let the rest of us down. I will ask for deadlines to be taken seriously and if anyone doesn't have a really good excuse to miss a deadline then it'll be a warning. If it remains continuous, then you can guarantee you'd be removed from the staff, letting anyone else who has the devotion to do this.

I'd also like to say that do not get any idea's yet please, do not start writing any information yet. We do not know when this will start. Although we want it to start soon, gathering information now etc will be pointless as it may turn out to be "old news".

As BoB has kindly said we can use our own board on Aiyon, we shall do that, but I'm afraid that for a short while, we will need to use a temp board as Aiyon is currently inactive/down. This would just be a small invision board or something. Just to get us started.

I would like each reporter/writer to post their idea's for a story up on this board, and also then give a draft of what they will put during the end of the first week. This way we can proof read etc and see whats wrong before the deadline of the paper itself.

So just wait for our go ahead before you start anything please.

If it's good, then I'm sure we would be able to include it. Depends on Lenna and I's wants. We want dedication, and we are going to be (as she stated) very strict on the deadlines. all articles must be submitted 3 days before deadline so that TUH can get them on the site. However, if something comes up, we can add them with in that 3 days.

No, no one start writing stuff up.

None of you know what jobs you have at the moment, so please do not start writing anything as it may be good to you and get turned down when you find out you have another job with the paper.

Anything you are going to write up, MUST be approved by me or Marick. That's where the forum comes in. You will post your idea's there, we'll tell you yes or no. If no then you will have to find another story.

The way I see it, we'll have don't know if Marick will agree but I'll speak to him about this later, ignore the numbers of how many are in. {This is the basic idea I have. To give people a random image of what it'll turn out like}:

About 3/4 Main reporters (big stories. Approx 500 words (I'm not good with counting so just assuming atm :P))
Approx 6 Small reporters (random spam/general stories. Approx 150 words.)
2-3 Puzzlers (About 6 different types of puzzles)
2-3 Cartoonists (we'll discuss how big the cartoons will be.)
5 Scouts (to gather information from the people)
3 Spell checkers / Proof readers (make sure no spelling / grammar errors ;))
2-3 Graphics Artists (to get / create pictures/images for the stories stated)
Not to mention the introductory page with bits from me and Marick xD
