It's always been like that. ROMs are okay on the site, but aren't to be passed around the forums. Dunno why; it has something to do with Cid and too much cake on a Saturday.
Actually, a few months ago Eyes on Final Fantasy got a Cease and Desist about copyrighted material being hosted. We ask that you all respect the unfortunate turn of events and not attempt to trade or distribute copyrighted material over the forums, thanks.
Is EoFF an American site then? There's a site in Sweden (I forget what it's called, DARN) that gets all sorts of letters about illegal hosting, but it's legal over there so they just laugh at the letters and post them online. Bit~something I think it's called...
Yeah, EoFF is an American site. It's large enough that Square Enix has taken notice of it; ROM trading is allowed at a number of much smaller boards, though (hint, hint) :p

If they personally came down from their towers to send EoFF a "NO MORE ROMS" message, I'm pretty sure it ain't worth risking. There are still a lot of places to get ROMs that won't cause Sean to be fined or go to jail.
Actually it's better for Cid (and ultimately us) since he was able to downgrade his server package and save money.

But, cool, I didn't know that he was able to do that.
Besides, if you don't know how to find a ROM using Google you're... special. There are ROM sites everywhere.
