Patience is a virtue, but at what point do you give up?
When do you simply say "forget this" and walk away? Determination is a sign of strength, but too much could seem obsessive.
What d'you reckon?

Depends on the situation, I guess. If it's a life or death situation of course you're not going to give up, but if it's to decide the outcome of who gets a 50p coin you seen on the floor with one of your friends what do I care? So yeah, pretty much situation dependant.
I only give up if I feel that it would do more damage to myself or others if I persist with it than vice versa, or if I feel it's unimportant (such as completing a video game that I don't enjoy).
what BoB said....
The moment I realize that I've spend 4 hours trying to beat a boss... I give up. Ultimecia you whore! >:O
I weigh my options. Try to figure out whether or not my time is worth the ultimate objective.
Someone didn't Card Mod their Laguna card. :)Quote:

I don't ing give up until I've finally beaten Minesweeper at the expert level. God that took 4 hours. It was worth it though.
I hope you mean in seperate games, 4 hours on a single game of minesweeper is sad.

Pretty much what BoB said. If you're aiming for a good that will bring trivial benefits as opposed to proper happiness then you need to have a rethink to see if it's worth it.
I like to seem more determined than most people. Even if it seems Im obsessed. If Im going through more bother than its worth then eventually I'll give up but Id much rather never try than give up on something halfway. I'll try gauging it in my head before I start.
In the end it doesn't really matter because you die. :)
If I have to die, then everyone will die with me! *trance*
I know when to quit, and that's when the extra effort needed to complete the task outweighs the reward you get from completing it. Personal challenges (Beginner Minesweeper in 6 seconds, woo!) are a little different, and I normally choose to give up when I find myself unable to get any closer to my target, at which point I decide that I've done the best I possibly can and call it a day.
I never give up.
Depends on how much coffee I've had.
I'm not even kidding.
I give up quite easily.. I blame my lazyness :(

Well, determination is a good thing. However, when I feel like what I was pursuing isn't worth the effort, or like I might end up hurting myself, I let go.
I'm determined to the point of stubbornness.
I'm not determined much. :/
The only thing I usually give up is arguments. With my dad, after about two minutes because he's so ignorant it just upsets me (he's really, really racist), with Raistlin after the third time he's said the same retarded argument, and with BJ about after a couple of hours where we sit in silence for awhile then make up.
I give up in video-games when one part takes me more than 10 tries to complete. *coughcough*Looking at you, Viewtiful Joe.*coughcough* Same goes for math problems. If an answer doesn't come to me within 15-20 minutes, I give up. I pretty much do my best for everything else. About a year back, I was working out with my friend(various exercises and whatnot) and he pushed me to my limit, possibly further and I could have easily quit, but didn't.
I could say the same thing about you, Shlup. :pQuote:

It's cute that you think that. :pQuote:

I'm determined but definitely not patient :p
whenever i fgeel like it. depends on my mood.
Anyhoo, I usually either go for broke or just quit, depending on the situation, conditions, and different outcomes of my choices.Quote:

Determination is for jocks and wanna-be-but-too-fat jocks!
Seriously, a few people have said that they'll always keep going with something, no matter what that means. That seems very self-centered. Like it's just so that you can prove something and say you're better than somebody else. It also means that you're not looking out for anybody else, because your trying to complete some meaningless goal could result in somebody else's pain. And of course you could spend all that time helping people already in pain. It's inconsiderate. Damn jocks.
