Spiderman vs. Batman vs Superman vs any other superhero series you may like

I just got done watching the newest Batman movie (Batman begins). And while it was interesting and kept my attention for the most part I don't think it was nearly as good as the latest Spiderman movies. The characters in Spiderman I think are alot more developed and interesting than the characters in Batman are.

Spiderman's characters seem to be alot more real (they act in alot of ways like people in the real world would act). Where as the characters in Batman just seem to be kind of fake in a way (probably due to the fact that they live in a make believe place so they don't really have to act just like us).

So which movies or comic book series did you like best. Maybe there are some folks who like Superman as well. But I think Batman and Spiderman are considered to be the two most popular so that is why I compared them to eachother more so than Superman (plus Superman's movies are about twenty years old now).

If I want a fun comic, I go for Spiderman. But if you want something of some serious quality and impact? You can't beat Batman's graphic novels, and Batman Begins is the best comic book to movie adaptation yet.

I like Spider-Man because the life of Peter Parker is just as much of a struggle as the life of Spidey. Like darkchrono said, the characters are more real.

Batman. Because he's not just a hero because he discovered he has powers. He's a hero boy choice. I mean, if Spiderman didn't have powers, he'd still be a pansy and I don't think he'd be the kind to help a friend out if he was being picked on. Now, Batman. That's a real hero.

There's the kind of superhero who gets his/her name because he/she has superpowers. That's the superhero.
Then there's the kind of superhero who gets his/her name because he wants justice in the world, regardless of having superpowers or not. That's the superhero.

Anyone saying that Spiderman's characters are more real than Batman's is probably forgetting that they have superhuman powers which are, obviously, rather unrealistic.

If I wanted to read about someone struggling to manage their life, I'd read the autobiography of a drug addict or watch a soap opera.

But Bruce Wayne's extremely rich and has everything he wants. Not exactly a realistic character.

Batman Begins was the best superhero movie ever. However, Spider-Man is the better superhero. Go Spidey!

I'm talking about their identities. It's kind of hard to relate to Wayne, because he's rich and famous and has everything. It's easy to relate to Peter Parker, because he's an 18-20-year-old kid, who has all the usual problems: college homework, finding a job, etc.

Parker is by far the better character.

But what if you want to read about a person with life struggles and superpowers? Don't get me wrong, Batman's great, definitely second best, but I like the fact that super powers isn't the answer to Peter Parker's problems. In fact, it is the cause of most of them. I also like that the people in Peter's life play roles in Spidey's life as well. He can never get away from either role. It's so wonderfully written. Raislin also makes a good point about relatable characters. You can relate to Peter because he is a nerd just like us.

I guess I'm not too eager to relate to Peter Parker because he seems like a bit of a wuss who gets bullied, and I have no desire to remember the days that I was a wuss who got bullied. :p Again, if I wanted to relate to a nerd, I'd watch a movie about a nerd. Not a superhero movie.

I'm more of a fan of the dark hero than the pansy hero. I'm also a big fan of Wolverine.

Now you're talking about the best damn hero around. Logan, Weapon X, the Wolverine, RULES! I like that he is such a mystery even to himself. And he's been around for more than a century. He also studied the way of the Samurai. As Logan puts it: he is the best there is at what he does, but what he does isn't very nice.:D

I also like someone who has to work for what he wants. Before Batman Begins, Batman just freakin' started out with billions of dollars worth of equipment. If I had billions of dollars to waste, I'd make sure I was pretty damn invincible, too.

Parker is poorer than some of us. He goes through all the struggles we'd have to if we suddenly turned superhero - getting a costume, hiding our identity from friends and family, finding time for college and/or work and superheroing, and finding equipment - the movies were retarded in that they had the web come naturally out of his wrist; in the comics, he makes a web-shooter and webbing.

D.C. comics has the tendency to make their superhero's start out perfect, especially earlier on, and starts you in the middle of the story. Batman starts out famous, with billions of dollars, and every possible thing imaginable. With the exception of Batman Begins, the story really starts in the middle. The story of Spiderman begins before he was bitten. So a better story, a better character...oh, and Spiderman has better villains. The Joker's great, but it's tough to beat Spidey badguys. Maybe X-Men bad guys (Magneto's pretty cool).

Hey man, the Penguin, Joker and Catwoman are all great. But X-Men definitely has the better villains in my eyes. X-Men has such a large variety of bad guys that you can't compete. Same with heroes. If we were talking about the different comics/stories in general rather than talking about individual superheroes, I would put X-Men at the front regardless, because I find they have a much more progressive storyline rather than the one-off ordeals that most single-superheroes do.

Yes, the buildup with Spiderman I have to say is better because Batman, as you say, started in the middle of his story. But who is the better superhero? I still say Batman. You could put all the story in the world around someone and they could still be a schmuck. It's who they are that is the superhero, and for me, Batman is superior in that regard.

In terms of no weaknesses, Wolverine's only weakness is Magneto, but then there's Deadpool who has Wolverine's regenerative abilities but, as far as I remember, isn't full of metal, so he can't exactly die. Then again, Apocalypse did like...melt Deadpool, and Cable had to eat him for them both to survive.

The Silver Surfer is pretty invincible too, you'd have to remove his cosmic energy to defeat him. Heck, he annihilated an entire planet of Symbiotes (y'know, like Venom and Carnage) purely because he knew they were evil.

Plus he can seal his enemies in a frozen space of time so they can't move or act.

Cable sans Apocalypse's Techo-organic virus is the most powerful telekinetic mutant in existance, a man who disassembles houses subconciously, so if he wasn't stuck with using his powers on that, he'd be pretty much invincible.

Also, as far as I remember, in the current DC line, Superman is no longer invincible, just very strong and very hard to kill.

I think he was invincible when he like, fused with a sun, and then he was split in two because he was two powerful, and then recombined and he wasn't invincible any more. I dunno, DC gets too confusing sometimes.

So uhh, yeah, not much point to that other than pointing out that Superman really isn't THAT fantastic.

I thought Wolverine was far from invincible? Like, if he was shot in the head with a shotgun, he'd be dead? I wouldn't say Magneto is his only weakness, not on the level of the original Superman, who was bulletproof and everything.

You'd pretty much have to disassemble Wolverine cell by cell in order to kill him, as he'll just regenerate whatever is done to him. He had molten metal fused to his bones for crepes sake!

Basically, I say Magneto is his only weakness, because he can manipulate the metal in Wolverine's body, but Wolverine can still regenerate any damage done to him, bullets or whatever. I think in one X-Men iteration, Wolverine had the adamantium removed and he used bone claws instead of metal and he still rocked the hell out, though I can't remember it very well.

And Phoenix is pretty much on the side of good.

Oh, and I forgot to mention Onslaught, the combined powers of Magneto and Professor-X, pretty much strong enough to take on Apocalypse (though only Apoc, sans horsemen) toe to toe.

Yeah, he does. His regenerative abilities are entirely instinctive, he loses an arm it grows back, just takes time; Deadpool does it instantly though. Though as so far, nobody has ever got to the point of being able to remove parts of Wolverine, so it's rather moot.

I think Wolverine can survive a nuclear blast, so, yeah.

Or maybe that's Deadpool, damn, I forget.

And besides, because of his regenerative abilities he ages at...well, hardly at all, so chances of a stroke are pretty much zero.

Wow. My 2 most favorite superheroes have both appeared in "Smallvile" Yes, thats right, the Flash and Aquaman. Mostly because I can relate to them both. I have always been really fast, so the Flash really caught my attention, but I was brought up almost literaly on water. I live on a floating home for crying out loud. so Aquaman kicks all the otherguys asses.

All evidence I've seen points to Wolverine being able to regenerate limbs. In Grant Morrisons New X-Men run he had all of the flesh on one of his arms burned off and it regrew in a matter of minutes. I see no reason he couldn't regenerate bone as well. If you're thinking of how Wolverine lost a hand in the Age of Apocalypse, I believe I read somewhere that he prevented it from growing back himself, but I'm not sure about that. I know his healing factor used to be weaker with the Adamantium than without (until Apocalypse fixed that weakness), so that may also have had something to do with it. As for his brain cells, I'm quite certain they do regenerate, maybe not if you destroy his brain entirely, but he once drove one of his claws into Sabretooths brain and he recovered, so I'd bet Wolverine could do the same.

Anyway, back on topic; Spider-Man is definitely my favourite super hero. He's the most normal guy under that mask of just about any hero I can think of which makes him easier to relate to. Not to mention web swinging is just plain cooler than the batmobile.

Spiderman and Batman are my two favorites, but I couldn't pick who I liked more. As a superhero, I like Batman more than Spiderman, but as a person, I like Peter Parker more than Bruce Wayne.

I also really like The Punisher and Nightcrawler.

Actually, Sly suited that role. They have the same attitude and the same face. I read the comics as a kid and it fit well.

I remember reading about the growth of Superman's character, and he's become much more powerful over the years. It used to be nothing short of a tank shell could hurt him, but now that would be nothing. Really, the only Superman series I've ever liked is the one in which he's killed by Doomsday. The resulting comics are fantastic, because there are four different people wearing the Superman emblem, and their stories all eventually intertwine; plus, it brings out the whole DC universe. Any comic with Green Lantern, Batman, Superman, etc. is going to rock.

He's stronger than he was originally intended to be (I've seen some old animated shorts from the 40's that prove he used to be pretty weak), but he's actually weaker than he was a few decades ago. I remember hearing about one story that had him and the Flash racing to see who was faster. In about two seconds they both made it around the world, and the race ended with them reaching the end of the Universe. Not only can Superman not do anything close to that now, but I believe the Flash is much faster than him. That's always been my biggest problem with some of DC's superhero's. Superman just seems way too powerful, everything I've read about the Flash makes me think he's probably way to fast, and I could go on. I actually quite liked liked Batman Begins at points. Unlike the movies in the series after Tim Burton and Michael Keaton went it actually seemed to have some vague pathos there. It was also just quite nicely made and scored. Nolan (can't for the life of me remember his first name) can make even the dreariest and most boring material look good, and instill some feeling in it in my opinion... as anyone who's seen the Insomnia remake might well agree. Given decent material he can really run (see Memento). While Batman is a bit of mixed affair I'm not sure a lot of this isn't down to working with a character who's become and industry... it's bloody hard to please everyone when making a movie of a comic. My only real gripe with the film was it's fight scenes. Ever since Ridley Scott's Gladiator there's been this huge habit of getting in way too close for my liking. The idea seems to be to combine sound and close visuals to give a heightened impression of actually feeling the blows... But too often I just can't see what the hell is going on. I get the impression it's rather cool, but that's not much good if I can't bloody see it.

The Spidey films I really do rate up there though. I'm not a great fan of the way the characters have been done, and really not at all of the actors portraying them (just what good is Kirsten Dunst?), but the film put some much needed colour and humour back in comic book adaptations in my opinion. Up until that point all I remember are the dreary over serious colours that Tim Burton gave us for the first Batman film (which were good at the time) and have since been copied down in ever following superhero film right down to the nippled bloody armour. Spiderman films actually have some colour and daylight.
