I'll make one point:
It's not ninjas and samurais. It's just ninja ans samurai. You dishonour them with your faulty grammar.

Ninjas are cooler because:

1) They can kill anyone they want!
2) They cut off heads ALL the time and don't even think twice about it.
3) These guys are so crazy and awesome that they flip out ALL the time.
4) They play electric guitar.
5) They can fly.

Ninja are specialised Samurai. Just like some become Shinobi (spies), emissaries, swordsmen, spearmen, etc. Ninja are Samurai of the night, assassins.

Therefore-> Ninja=Samurai

Beep. Bigfatwrongness. Ninja came from seperate, hereditary clans, who had nothing to do with the samurai clans. In fact, they were very different- Samurai fought man to man, bellowing war cries, and fighting along a set of special, pre-defined rules- the Bushido. Ninjas, on the other hand, were devious, sneaky and dishonest, which of course they had to be. But, as this directly conflicted with the bushido, samurai looked down on ninja, and ninja were oftendepicted as villanous, untrusworthy, and even demonic.
Samurai code demanded that opponents die either in battle or through seppuku, while the ninja killed secretly, and certainly not in battle.
Therefore, Samurai =/= Ninja.

Oh, and Samurai, because I played Kessen and Shogun: Total War and watched RAN until my eyes bled.

The samurai. Ninja had no honor, no pride in their bushido.

Samurai block attacks with their katana. Ninja's however have no defense and suck.

I generally prefer Samurai to Ninja, but Ninja are good too. I like the samurai sword style quite a bit.

However, the Ninja did develop Ninjutsu specifically to counter the samurai Aikido, a style used to turn the momentum against the attacker. Ninjutsu allowed them to turn the Aikido's throw into another attack. So technically the Ninja are bred to defeat Samurai, although in a straight blade-on-blade duel they really have no chance.

I can't quite decide...I like both for different reasons.

If it were a battle in broad daylight in the middle of a battlefield, the samurai would win hands down.
However, if the battle were in the dead of night...(insert random ninja smiley here)

Ninja, because ninja win by default. All of the time!

We all know ninja own samurai, else we wouldn't even bother with the ninja versus pirates debates. Which pirates own ninja at, of course.

Breaking it down to those who do not follow:

Pirate > Ninja > Samurai > You*

*unless you're a pirate, ninja, or samurai

RSL is a subset of pirates, but ranks slightly higher.
