once you leave dial up you never go back
speaking of which
SHARE YOU DIAL UP STORIES IN THIS THREad
ff6 rom took half an hour to get back then
man, I haven't had to use dialup since 1996, except for that period in 2001 when I was poor. Man that sucked.
i went back to dial up while my dsl was out for a few weeks, wasnt too bad
Threads like these should be close before I start crying about 56k, again
I'm still surfing on my 600 baud.
Dial Up = (SPOILER)Yeah Right, dont think so
I barely got something better than dialup (well, in terms of speed anyway) last month, which is the college LAN. It's actually inferior in the sense that there's alot of stuff I can't do or am limited on because of the stupid firewall. It's way better though, and I seriously don't think I'll even bother with using the internet if the only thing is dialup (and I'll probably see myself in that position not too far from now).
41k modem. yay.
41k modem? How is that possible? It's not possible, seeing as it's an odd number, and the fact that I don't recall anything in between 28.8k and 56k being made.
Dialup was ok, as long as pages were GZip compressed.
High-speed university connection. Where you can go, "man this is slow!" if it's taken more than five seconds for a page to appear.
*click*
I just opened the forum homepage, and it took about 2.5 seconds:strut:
Well my 5MBit connection seems slow now. I have become spoiled.
Ultimately, with pages being GZip compressed, page loading time matters less regarding connection speed (i.e. 1 MBit vs. 10MBit) and more with respect to server speed, latency, and net traffic.
I once downloaded a 15 MB file on a 56k, and I am very proud of this accomplishment!
(bear in mind that my 56k used to disconnect every 2 hours)
I miss that dial tone :(
My internet sucks. :D
I've never had dial up. 2 meg!!!:D lol
Wow, I hated AOL's dial-up. I downloaded Photoshop on it once, oh the wait. xD It took like, 6 hours.
I'm pretty sure I'm the only person to not have all these horrible dialup experiences. My dialup was ZFree in New Zealand, and it worked really well, and would load up pages in pretty standard speeds. Broadband is clearly better for downloading files, but when it came to browsing places like EoFF, my dialup was just fine.
One time, when I had Dial up, I tried to Dial up when my Mum was on the phone downstairs, and I could hear the conversation.
It's cool when you have dial up and when someone rings, the computer picks up the phone and you can hear the guy on the other end saying 'hello?'
I've always been a child of the Cable Connection.
So Huzzah to all you outdated fogies.
I just got DSL (at least I think that's what it is... broadband anyhow). I nearly creamed mah pants when I downloaded a music video in 2 minutes, at 100k/bs or so. I think I got whiplash. :hat:
I have a crappy net connection, meh at least I don't have to take it off... ever.
i <3 my modem *patpats*
its been bashed about a bit. parts of its been held together by masking tape! :D
I suffered dial up for 2 years, then switched, best decision of my life...
Yay for broadband!
That's great.
I've just upgraded my Internet speed to 200.0 Mbps, and it seems exactly the same as it was at 100.0 Mbps. :)
When i had dial up i once tried to get on the Internet and ended up ringing somebody at random.
"Hello..?.. HELLO?" I didn't have a Microphone so i just canceled
Thankfully I have never gone through the horrors of a dial up and hopefully never will.
do do do do do do do do do do deeeeeeeeee-DURRRRR DER-KERSH-DER-SHERRRrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRR click
