we could disable posting for all newly registered members for two days.
We could disable posting for all registered members who aren't me forever.
cant tell if ur sarcastic or not but either way woesnt sound like its gonna happen or matterQuote:

I like this idea. just make it say "Don't link to other Forums or personal sites. Keep advertising in your Sig. Thanks. -The Management-"Quote:

Question: "Isn't there anything we can do to tackle this problem without causing other problems that would be even more annoying?"
Answer: "No."
at least it keeps the cid's knights on their toes
then the real question is, "Where do the cid knight's keep their toes?"
I was joking.
people actually use the insert link button? I just type out the url.Quote:

The only problem with that is that no one worth flaming properly would post then Psy ;)
ACCORDING to raistlin and some other guys I'm psy (dunno how that works) so I'll still be here

Or we could make newly registered members read the FAQ and take a test on it to be able to log on.
That second idea is wonderful, mr. void!
I agree. :)
And the great thing is, even if it is multiple choice or true/false and really easy, it still requires them to have knowledge of the rules. I mean we could do something like this:
"Is it all right to post porn? Yes or no"
"Is it all right to flame others? Yes or no"
Etc. etc.
Throw in a few reversed questions for good measure so they can't just select one for all of them and we're good to go.
If this was done, Yams would be doing even LESS.
I put about as much trust in users to read the FAQ as I do for users to not post porn. In other words, even if they are forced to read the FAQ, I highly doubt they'll give a crap. They'll post their ads and porn anyway. You think these people are here to stick around? You're misled.
That quiz is a silly idea, because it means less people would join the forums, and so less people would click/see ads, and so Cid would make less money.
You want Cid to become bankrupt and be forced to live on the streets as a prostitute and eat rats just so you don't have to edit out advertising links? Shame on all of you! SHAME ON ALL OF YOU! :irked:
i read that faq and didn't win best member, what's up with that? :mad2:
...wait, so there actually IS an FAQ?
Completely re-written to fit EoFF, too. to Unne.
so make members have to have their links authorized by a knight or admin for a cirtain period at the beginning of their time here, then u wont get any advertising or porn or crapQuote:

This counts as an advertisement! ZOMG
Also, how much code would it take to rework the url button so that it says no advertising? It's probably more than I would wanna do, so I don't blame you. BAN BAN BAN!
the point was that if u dont allow it why not just prevent it, or it could b deleted after closed, but i was told that things arent deleted for archiving purposes but why would a thread of advertising or porn be archived?
They're not archived. Threads that contain porn are moved into a subforum within the Staff forum. We do this to preserve the IP and contents of the post. It's not possible to prevent any of this. The best we can do is deal with it once it happens.
Just you wait!
How can you make it so that one person can't link to a site, but another person can link to another site? There's more work involved in preventing it than just in editting/closing a thread.Quote:
