I love the part of the game where you're around LV. 35, where Butz goes on a quest to find himself. He's never able to, though, because he's just too deep to be comprehended. Poor guy.

I'm still at the start, but Butz seems a lot like Firioniel, no real emotion or character... just the leader...
Uh, Butz shows a LOT of emotion. At one point, Lenna tells Butz that she wants to be "just friends", and he starts crying and runs away. It's truly heartbreaking.
Hmmm....sounds like Cloud. He lacked a personality and emotion. Anyhow, Butz portrayed a more comical sort of personality in my opinion. Quite often it was him that made a tense moment slightly light hearted. But I don't think Butz really had that much of a unique personality.....He was still an awsome character though.Quote:

You know, let me just summarize the characters of FF5 right now.
Butz: HELLO! I AM TEH HERO.
Lenna: LOOK AT ME. I AM A PRINCESS. FALL IN LOVE WITH TEH HERO OKAY.
Faris: I'm totally badass. Yar.
Galuf: Hey. I'm old. And I know stuff. Hey wait, who the hell am I?
Krile: Look! I'm adorable!
Bartz isnt really the leader, he was the last person who agreed to go on this quest. Reina and faris jumped in because their father told em to and galuf felt this was the road to get his memory back. krile wanted to avenge galuf. bartz came along coz he fancied reina............shallow prick
hehehe butz
i said I am only at the beginning...Quote:

although in earlier FFs personality is lacking bartz has a goos personality. hes funny and pretty energetic but thats about it. he says things at the funniest times though.dont ask me why but when (SPOILER)x-death awakes and bartz says "oh crap." its hilarious and also near the start of the 3rd world where bartz and krile start fighting then bartz says "kids. who needs em." and bartzes fear of heights. bartz has the best personality in FF5.
Butz has the personality of a *turnip.
*We sincerely appologise to any turnips present who may be offended to being compared to a character with a personality like that of a **potato.
**We also appologise to any potatos present who may be offended to being compared to a character with a personality like that of a ***stick of celery, or to a turnip.
***Celery we don't like, so they can cry all they want.
Hey now, I like celery. It's about as addictive as any other fruit/vegetable.
The only emotion I remember Bartz having is when he looks under the sheets after Faris gets hurt and realizes that Faris is a hot chick. He falls in love (or more likely lust). My guess is that he was already inexplicibly attracted to Faris and was have some issues trying to sort out his own sexual preferences until he realized that he was a she.
He loves his chocobo and he OBVIOUSLY takes care of it. I'd say he's very lifelike.
Now now, there's no need to get bitter just because Baky ran away Chris. If you love them, let them go...Quote:

I'd like for you to name a single instance in the game where Butz doesn't have something deep to contribute.
Lets pick a line from when he saw Faris's not so manly man boobs at the start of the game.
Butz: "!"Quote:

He cared for his chocobo? Last time I checked he left it behind before they went into the cave leading to the pirates base. Poor thing is probably starving, cold and ragged by now.
no he (boko) managed to find a mate and "settle" down... if you know what i mean
I've always thought so.Quote:

I cant resist to lol at this topic.
Butz is like, a turnip, yes, definitely a turnip!
His journey be meaningful
his followers be fine

Yes, yes you do.
Yeah, it's just that I haven't been playing my ROMs in a long time...
Thers a part where he goes beserk and zooms around the world a couple of times in the airship when his home town is sucked into the void. Thats the most emotional he gets.
Every FF character is deep and emotional, there are many ways to show and tell this but almost every character in all the ff games (with acception to a handful) have and show emotions, you people just aren't looking hard enough.
i was just about to say that.Quote:

(SPOILER)bartz-both parents dead from illnesses. gets hometown sucked into black hole. and you thought your life was bad.
faris- got separated from parents as a child and have to pretend to be a man for the rest of your life to avoid ridicule. loses all sense of femninity.
galuf- lost memory. got it back, but the only one left to stop x-death(of the dawn warriors) and dies anyway.
krile- lost her grandpa. (okay, krile doesnt have that many problems, but still.)
lenna- lost both parents. (like bartz.) and lost her kingdom to a black hole. (okay, alot like bartz. theyd make a good couple, neh?) had the chance to save her mom, depending on if you chose to or not. (thats an optional side-quest/back story)
told you so.:choc2: :p
8-bit and 16-bit sprites have emotions too!
how do you save Lenna's mom?
you decide to take the hiryuu's tongue.Quote:

Sometimes I wondered what kind of character he is,
but if you ever played Final Fantasy Mystic Quest,
then you know how much character Butz have!
The one with the most character is Squall in my opinion.
Feh, Butz has way more character than Benjamin. XD
i hope youre joking...:pQuote:

thats right, and faris and lenna have to drag him away from the controler......it's sad cause his hometown goes byebye in front of him.Quote:

Remeber??????
Can't remeber the earth shrine bit...oh well, it will come back to my head
Well, I wouldn't say Bartz has no emotion but he is not as well developed as the characters in ff6 in my opinion. I haven't played very far but well, we can see the perverted side of Bartz in the ship graveyard when both Bartz and Galuf tried to undress Faris even though they knew she was a girl from that scene in the inn. I wish he had dashed into that room in the cave to steal a peek of Rena though.
FFV just required you to look a little harder to see depth in the characters. In FFVIII all the characters were VERY different Zell=energetic and enthusiastic Selphy=hyper Seifer=cocky cool Quistis=mature Squall=emotionally stunted Irvine=ladies man.
But in FFV the characters weren't so different. They would all appear at first to have no personality or depth. It didn't help that the scripting was so poor, but as proven in this thread, Bartz had plenty of times to shine as a character
