I spend about 7 hours/day playing. I go to college. I don't work. My boyfriend broke up with me because he said I am addicted. My family thinks I have a problem and want to get me help.
Can any of you relate and have suggestions?

I don't think this is very funny. ~ Leeza[/leeza]
Oh, one more thing. I got pretty good at playing and was paid to help people advance, but nobody cares about that and thinks I still have a problem.
Simply limit yourself. Give yourself a time limit and don't exceed it.
EDIT: Old Manus xD
Yeah, Jess pretty much suggesed what I'd have said. xD
Just don't play games
Well, looks like this problem is solved.
I think your addiction to Caps Lock is more devastating.
Yes, you have a problem. Have more sex with your boyfriend. It's better. Trust me. ;)
Video games are like marijuana: They aren't addictive.
I've never had time to play it that long...once when i was ridden with flu i guess. But eh...You go girl.
You just need to actively make your life more interesting than a fantasy one. The ratio should equal out.
PS: I wanna know what Manus said before the snip :(
Your ex boyfreind and your family are all drama queens, don't listen to them.
Any behavior can be psychologically addictive. It's not physiologically addictive, but it can be an addiction nonetheless. So nyar.Quote:

Im a college student too and had a similar problem, last semester, of balancing social stuff, classes, school, and game addiction (it is an addiction despite what other people may say). My advice is first try to limit yourself in game play, try to only play it on the weekends or when you have no major projects or exams coming up. If this doesnt work (it didnt really work for me) just box up all your gaming things until you finish the semester, this is what im doing but i went a step further my gaming stuff isnt in my dorm room its 400 km away at my parent's house. Its the only way i found i could stop and somewhat focus on school work along with other things.
I used to be like that, about 3 years ago, I never ate and did ANYTHING, I just used to play from when I got up until I slept, but I was sometimes forced to go downstairs and eat.
Nowdays I don't have time for videogames, because going out with friends and being active is just much more EXCITING, so I put that first. I suggest go out a lot
How old are you?
But psychological addictions are for losers.Quote:

At some point you need to evaluate your priorities and ask yourself if gaming is really that important to you.
I agree with Chris... If anyone told me i had to limit my gaming I would be SOOO PISSSEDD!!!! In the end it's your choice. Only change if you want to.
Just look at Shlup's sig. That's bound to eat up at least 4 hours of your day. At least.
You need help. :) How about smashing your console or computer into piece? I'm sure that'll work.
Yes, I agree Shlups sig is more important than gaming.
Dancing Dino says you're all insane.
That's neither here nor there. *kick*Quote:

In fact, I mouth those words as he does.
Maybe I'm just crazy.
well, just bugger your parents and find another boyfriend of which you share the same interests with.
ps: Shlups sig = better then successfull sex.
Very true. I need to find a balance so I don't regret it later in life.Quote:

Now, I have more of an addiction to this godforsaken place than I do to video games. It helps. If you want to quit, make it quit, and help yourself to quit. If you dont want to quit, thats up to you, just know the consequenes if you continue to fulfill your addiction.
Get a job. Seriously. Then you won't have time to play games for 7 hours a day, and you'll at least be making money, and possibly new friends.
No one comes between me and my video games. Ask your ex to come and sit down and play a multi-player video game with you. That'll solve all of your problems.
Gaming girls rule. I don't see the problem. As long as you're getting enough sleep and keeping passing grades in college. I don't mind watching games. I also certainly don't mind playing them. *Goes 2-Player with Reles*
if you yourself refer to it as an addiction then yes its probably out of control, but if u can make enough money doin it to live off of for the rest of your life then play away
that gaming does seem like a problem, but I'm in the same boat too, kinda...
I have to play games after i get home from school for atleast an hour or 2, coming into year 11 I have to break that trend.
On the school holidays I really can't find anything to do and find myself hooked on games as well
The best thing to do would be to find other things to occupy yourself with. I work every few days, and although I hate it, It's better than sitting in front of a screen for hours. get a job, go out with friends, study (well that sounds like a barrel-full of fun, but it is time consuming) read, draw, go on this forum, cook, anything. It may be really hard at first to walk away from the console, and when your doing it you know you'd much rather be playing the games, but you wont be, and in time you'll probably build a life around them.
Go out, make new friends, get a job, anything.
Ask yourself if gaming is really taking you anywhere.
Force yourself to get something to do OUTSIDE your house that keeps you very busy.
If all of this doesn't work, sell your games and consoles and/or seek for the help of a specialist.
Why hasn't leeza snipped this??Quote:

Maybe you should try watching TV instead...
Better yet try setting a schedule or something... That would help...
You have to realize that playing games can be stressfull, you can get a headache or something...
You play 7 hours a day? I played for 3 straight days without rest my eyeballs popped out and rolled over the carpet (just joking, I although my head started to pulsate for a while) :sweatdrop:
Don't worry. I did it during my summer vacation.
Smoke crack. It'll keep ya away from the games ;D
That doesn't work. Take it from me. . .
yes crash because you have really tried it;]
i can relate:
1) [part-time] student
2) not working, atm
3) and that last bit too
eh, my grades have been on a road of struggle and i think i'll become twice as stupid playing video-games than being a 24-7 couch potato. but i like what i do - i still hold my valued position in the house: "most knowledgeable member", xD.
i don't think you're crazy however. keep up the grades and don't give up what you love. balance will put things back in harmony...
