I need some advice. My 12 year old girl wants to play the guitar. What do I get for a noobie player? Regular or electric? This is a subject I have no knowledge of. Thanks in advance! :)

Ummm...I would start them off with a Starter Electric, If they want to do electric.Quote:

Also B.C. Rich guitar's totally rule!
I recommend acoustic, of course, but that's because I think acoustics are better for any age or any level.
There's no need to spend a lot of money buying a Martin or a Taylor or anything like that. Just buy something pretty cheap that she can learn the chords on. A capo is also very necessary for a beginner.
Hmm... Like what Venom said. I have an electric and an amp but it was an OK amount of money..
Squirer Bullet Fender (The guitar brand): $150
Amplifier: $60
But if you want to keep less noise in the house and not waste a lot of money give her an acoustic...
I ltought myself with an acoustic and I tell everyone who asks to start with one. They're easy, fairly portable, and not as loud. Plus, theyre probably cheaper, as you dont have to buy an amp, cord, etc. So go with that. You can pick up an acoustic starter kit for around $100. Usually comes with extra stings a strap gig bag, tuner, etc
It all depends on what your kid wants. Does she want to play the electric or an acoustic? Alot of people say that there are advantages to starting out with an acoustic, but none of them hold if they don't want to play an acoustic. If your daughter likes rock music, give her an electric. If she's into country, an acoustic might be better suited.
Personally I think an electric is far more well rounded. It should be totally up to her, though. If she doesn't want an acoustic, she probably wont progress with one.
heh heh heh I have a B.C Rich Warlock with tribal designs :DQuote:

Perhaps she needs lessons as well. Guitar don't just happen overnight.
I look sexy with a guitar
I started with an acoustic/electric. B) This might be a good way to go, because she can learn general guitar easily, and then when she gets to know a bit more, she can mess around with the electric portion without having to buy a new guitar.
Edit: I don't like B.C Riches. Yeah, they look pretty but the quality is generally shoddy.
I go to some place here in connecticut. It's in Fairfield. Anyone who lives in CT can go here. It's in Fairfield, 813 Kings Hallway...
It's possible to teach yourself guitar, thats what alot of Guitar players who are awesome do.Quote:

Lol. I try to teach myself sometimes but now that you say being "12" and teaching yourself is hard. Lol. Im gonna take lessons in January. 30 bucks half an hour...
That price seems a little high for a half an hour...Quote:

What kinda guitar is it?
acoustic.
The one I already have is a Squierer (Sp?) Bullet Fender. I got to look at other ones to see which one I want next...
Crash, don't worry about upgrading your guitar for at least a few years.
When you are good enoug for a much nicer guitar, then get a job and buy one :)
Lol, thanks for the advice. But why does my guitar sound like a prostitute giving a blow job and a party boat's horn mixed?? People keep on telling me to tune, so I tune it then 3 strings pop. But the biggest string sounds electric without the amp...
what
XD My guitar doesn't sound right
tune it?
Well if you've read above you would've seen that I TRIED...
Buy new strings.
They gave me new strings and they can fix it for free. But Im trying to say, is there any other way to make an electric sound without tuning it??
not really no.
Damn. I gotta be more careful. Thanks V.
However if you are looking for a good guitar, I would suggest something by Charvel, If you dont mind saving up like 900.00 for a low end Charvel that is:(
Lol. You know how there are some guitars with the head having the six strings lined up in a diagnol?? Like the one I have. What's a good guitard with the oposite?? With 3 strings lined up one side then the same for the other??

A whole bunch of awesome guitars!
Hey FFjunkie, how's it going with your guitar finds??
I personally think the Ibanez GAX30 is the best n00b guitar out there, I started with it and it was brilliant. Hell, even the more experienced players (on a budget) still prefer to play it over flashier guitars.
Gibsons are pretty sexy though, I really want a gothic SG.
The opinion I always have is that anybody should start with an acoustic - not an electric or a classic. There are several reasons for that - the first being that the acoustic is the hardest to play. Well, maybe you'll disagree with me, but it's harder than the electric due to how far the strings are from the neck, and it's harder the the classic for obvious reasons. The fact that it's harder to play might sound like a stupid reason for buying it, but the reasoning for this is that if you can play the acoustic, you should have no trouble if you plan on switching to an electric or even a classic. Secondly, when you're first playing the guitar, you sound terrible, and an acoustic is quieter than an electric. xD My other reason is opinionated - I think the acoustic has a much nicer sound. :)
You should find out what style your twelve-year-old wants to play in, and come back to us. Base your decisions on that - is she going to simply throw in one style and switch to another? Because if she is, buying her an acoustic or a classic before giving her an electric is not only foolish, it's a waste of money - unless she wants to play in more than one style. xD Find out what she wants to do, and post again! I'm sure there're a lot of people who know lots about guitars and will be happy to give you better advice than I was able to. :D
I like the Ibanez Destroyer, do they still make that one?Quote:

Ibanez are my favourite company, I personally prefer them to gibson.
What about Charvel? ont they kick ass?
Never really played one. Doesn't Eddie Van Halen use a Charvel? If he does, then they're cool with me ;)
He uses Charvel and Kramer.
Eh, I just play a standard stratocaster myself.
Hey, uhh..... You know how I said I might get a second guitar?? I want one similar to Billie Joe Armstrong, from Greenday. Please and thanks...
ummm...Im lost there, why not get one custom made, thats what im doing.:)
I think he plays a stratocaster. I saw him playing a les paul in one of their lives shows though (Aired on tv), but that may have been a one off.Quote:

Yeah. An electric guitar has the gayest sound without an amp...
Getting the $$$ this week! She has her heart set on electric so I'm gonna get her an electric for beginners. Thanks for all the info everyone! :)
Give us more details. Like, I dunno. More details. Oh yeah, for heads up, do not go to Wal*Mart. They have fake guitars. Come on. Guitars for only 50 bucks?? Big hint...
