Do you like to be on top or do you prefer the bottom?

When replying to PMs I have noticed in recent months, more and more people inserting their own replies on top of the senders' own reply. Example:

This new and perverse way of PM discourse also ruins the beloved quote pyramids, or alternately, ziggurat. This method turns the pyramid, or ziggurat into an unholy mass.

So, my question to you is, what is your method? Do you enjoy it? Did you know that if the Nazis were still around the inverted PM reply would be their method?

We must rid Eyes on of this pestilence! Together we can! Oh yeah, and it's more logical to have your reply below the senders'.

When you read a new pm what you want to see is the new material. That is the actual pm. It does not make sense for it to be way at the bottom. The quoted text is below the actual message for reference if you need it.

It doesn't follow the natural progression of thought, though. You're like, "What the hell is this reply doing here? What is it replying to?"

I had dirty thoughts when reading that title...*points to location* It applies to both the situation I thought of and that of when I reply to PMs.

My mind went in a COMPLETELY different direction when I read the title.


I tend to write on the bottom.

The reply definitely has to be on the bottom. That way you get to see all that has already transpired in the conversion as you scroll down to post your reply. Being on top means that you have to keep scrolling down to check on previous conversations and then up again to post your reply. This is not correct and a waste of time. :cat:

I haven't experience it yet, but I think I'd like it best on bottom.

I think the first reply to a private message I ever got was written with the reply on top, original message on bottom. Ever since then, I've always done it like that, figuring it was the normal way to reply to a PM. Besides, that's how I've always done it/seen it done in e-mails, and I sort of look at private messaging as a form of e-mail, so it just seems right.

There are different procedures for quoting in threads and quoting in PMs. For reasons Del Murder (who is a smart, smart guy) already posted, placing the message at the top of the previous PM is obviously the right way to do things.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is going on my list of people never to PM.

On most of the other forums I've seen, they always have their quotes on bottom and replies on top. It really bugs me.

I use whatever method the other uses first.

I've been putting mine on top for years.

When I quote, it's already seated comfortably on the top, so I leave it alone.

But then you have to scroll all the way to the bottom just to get the new info. And again when you are typing your reply. It should all be right there for you.

I stand with Yams on this matter. I've never liked replies on the top, they confuse and therefore anger me.

The bottom, less work for me.

I reply with my stuff on the bottom. It's easier to follow the thought process, especially if you exchange several PMs on the same subject. :3

You guys have some serious problems; why are you even quoting what a person said to you when replying?

I normally delete everything out of my reply box before typing anything. I do not if I do not care enough about you, though.

I've never even seen anyone write the message at the top. Like it's been said before, doing so requires more needless effort on my part, and so, is bad. I may write in the format the other uses first, but I won't know until someone PMs me in such a format, and even then I doubt I would write on the top.

When replying to a PM, I delete the quote. I do not change the PM title, so whoever I'm PMing should know what the PM is in response to by the PM title, the quote is just redundant. In threads, when I quote I reply below the quote, really because that's where the site puts the cursor when I hit the quote button.

I believe this thread was made for the shear purpose of getting us to make jokes so the administrators could ban us, because they play that.

Though i found I am a bottom person. That way I don't have to do as much work.

I have a solution!

No more quotes. >_> Don't need them, anyway.
