Hey people I'm wondering in DQ8 what's the recipe for a thief's key, I'm wondering if I missed it. I'm currently at this city called Baccarat or whatever, the point is that I've just got on a ship and walked to a new city. So what's the recipe for a thief's key and what' is it used for, I think it's too unlock doors and chests right?
Iron nail + bronze knife
It's used to unlock some locked chests. If you already found the Magic Key (which you should have by now), you don't need the Thief's Key, since that one unlocks all the same things plus more.
Nah I haven't found it yet, I huess I'm way off.
It's at Trodian Castle. It's probably locked for the Thief Key to open. That would make sense, actually.
The recipe for the key can be found in the very first town. Go behind the counter of the weapon shop at night and talk to the guy. He'll tell you to check the bell at the top of the church.
I remember never getting the thief's key, but I still got the magic key. So I don't think it's neccessary, but it helps to get some of the treasures early :choc2:

Yep......so if you decide to zoom back (or use a chimera wing) to get back to Farebury, there's loads of chests on that first continent that require the thief's key to open.
But before you do that, go to the cat tamer's lodge (I forget the name). Its near Baccarat on the map. Do a little sidequest, and you'll be able to call a sabrecat, which you can ride. This will come in handy finding all those missed chests after you get the thief's key.

There should be a canal that goes through the entire continent, you have to go through it. You'll run into the Sea Dragon as a normal enemy there, when he uses this big light attack, you have to select the mirror as an item. It'll 'recharge', and you can run away. Of course, you can kill it, but it doesn't give alot of exp or gold.
And I'm positive I didn't use the Thief's Key, I never got it in the game. I do remember getting the Magic Key, so...:cat:
I'm pretty sure it is in a chest in Trodain castle, and there's no recipe for it. I believe its through the castle's main doors, go left, and on your left is 2 big doors. The room beyond should hold a bunch of pots or barrels, and bags on the wall. Be sure to search these for treasure. Most important, there's a chest there as well with the magic key in it.Quote:

No I might be on another continent there's a Chapel there I think it might be at the same place with the Mystical Spring I was looking for the magic key there before I knew where it was.
The mystical spring is on the same continent as baccarat. its actually just south of baccarat.
There are a few islands north of Trodain. Savella Cathedral is there, which you will need to visit later, but you can go there now. There is a weapon shop and an armour shop there, although I don't know if you already have more powerful gear. Princess Minnie's Castle is in the north too, you can visit there to start the mini-medal quest (no doubt you already have a bunch collected).
As well, there a few islands in the south of the map that you can visit, including the Isle of Neos. The monsters are fairly powerful there, perhaps too much for you characters now, although I'm not sure.
There's also an unmarked island, to the south-south-west, beyond the extents of the world map. You can get a platinum sword there.
Anyways, there's still quite a few places to visit, explore, and to level up at.
And you don't have to go back to the desert where you got the airship.
I beat Dhoulmagus with a party in the mid-20s, your levels are just fine. Remember, in case you didn't know, you don't have to fight his first form (the most annoying, to me.) after you beat him once, even if you lose. You can go back and right away, fight the second form. :cat:
If Jessica has learned Insulate (or Magic Barrier) from Staves, that helps against the annoying fire and ice attacks. :cat:
Unless you already beat Dhoulmagus...:choc2:
Edit: You should be able to withstand the Neos monsters with that party, I'm sure. Fight Gold Golems. They don't appear extremely often, but they drop 750 gold or so. Yes, that's alot. (They appear in the Island of Neos.) There's also a decent Gold Golem pallette swap monster there, that you can add onto your Monster Team. (I don't know what determines how those monsters appear, however.)
I beat Dhoulmagus wth a party hovering around lv30 as well. And I didn't even know about tension at the time. If I could offer a suggestion, it's that you pump Angelo's bow skills. Right before I fought him I learned Shining Shot and it did wonders on his first form. I abused that and Falcon Slash...
I can't beat the Dragovian Lord.

I chose the Alchemy Pot upgrade, c'mon, no wait time?! Yes please! After that, I got the Dragovian armour and helmet, to change Hero's appearance. (He looks pretty cool.) The Dragovian sword isn't that great, in my opinion, the Liquid Metal Sword and Liquid King Lance (or whatever it's called) is better, you can attack four times if you leveled up Lances with Liquid King Spear.
And of course, the Dragons give massive EXP and Gold, easy enough to power level, if you're strong enough. Once you beat every form and get every wish, you can fight all the dragons in succession, plus a new dragon that's much stronger afterwards, but the only reward is the immense EXP/Gold reward, and that you must be pretty awesome at DQVIII :p :cat:
Those are neat prizes, no doubt. No waiting time for the alchemy pot, huh? I'll probably go for that when I start playing DQ8 again......
Yeah, you can get great exp and gold for defeating a form of the Lord of the Dragovians.......that still requires a retarded amount of time spent fighting metal slimes, up on that same remote mountain near Rydon's Tower, to get to a high enough level. I swear, I'll be seeing those same surroundings on that moutain in my nightmares, due to frustration of almost defeating a liquid metal slime or metal king slime, just to have it run away :p
Still, a ridiculous amount of levelling to beat some dragons. don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this game, its just that it requires you to spend WAY too much time levelling. Yeah, its good that's its a little more challenging than FF, and other RPGs, but its just too tedious and time consuming at times.

Once you do that, the casino opens up again. :cat: If you've already progressed through the game after that, then it shouldn't be that hard of a dungeon/ boss.
Yes, I did that, but I waited until I was quite a bit further into the game. The dungeon in the Dragon Graveyard you have to go into is pretty tough, and you may require higher levels. I wound up going on about my quest, and waited to go back to Goulding's Mansion to be a bodyguard until much later in the game.Quote:

Okay now I'm supposed to be going to the High Priest's Iskland I find Marcello there but I can't ride up to the island it seems that there is no other way to get up there help, what do I do now?
You are not supposed to go up there.
Go to the Island of Neos. Go to the entrance of the big statue thing and a scene will take place with Marcello.

You have to use it to go to the floating island where the High Priest's manor is.

Anyway, you have to defeat Leopold, get locked up, go through a scene, and then go to the Isle of Neos. I think. It's been awhile. :cat:

Did you do the pirates cave, yet? You need to do this to get the illuminated sea chart, which you need to get to Empychuu Island in the south, which you can't access yet because its surrounded by high cliffs.
So if you haven't gone to the pirate's cave, go there. Go towards Trodain in the ship, and enter the river which runs just north of the castle. Keep sailing in there until you see a bridge with a cave entrance under it.
Someone should have told you somewhere along the way about an illuminated sea chart in a pirates cave, or something of the sort.
You have to be sure to talk to EVERYBODY throughout the game, in order to get all the details, and be able to proceed through the game.
A walkthrough can be helpful, but you certainly don't need one to advance through the game. If you talk to everyone, you'll know what to do.

Go to the southern continent, near Maella Abby. Fly south from there, along the coastline, until you see a little settlement on an island with a bridge (or something of that sort). You'll learn more in there. You won't be able to land right in the settlement, instead there'll be a little trek through the woods, across a bridge, and through more woods.

There are treasure chests in the wild around Farebury, if you haven't found them yet. If you see the big green dragon running towards you, run away, as he's too strong for you at the moment. Go back and fight him later in your quest.
Yeah, I lost to that dragon too. In Dragon Warrior Monsters I and II Kobi and Tara's adventures, etc... it has a different name, and it was weaker. I got the treasure behind it, though. I also got cheese from the woodsman, and got all the treasure chests on that particular island, next I guess I have to go to Alexandria?
There may be treasure to the North East of Farebury, through the woods, along the cliff. Then again, that may be near Alexandria I'm thinking of.
In any case, yes, on to Alexandria.
Alrighty, I'm not too far in (Alexandria) and I'm wondering if anyone has a full bestiary of the on map enemies that give out the bronze and silver coins. I looked at Gamefaqs, and I can't find them in it.
Also, do those coins have a special purpose or are they just for selling as the description elludes?
Next, about that Thief's Key, where do I get the ingredients for the key?

Well, I've done the tower quest, and that little kid with the wooden sword said she was in port town, so I went there, and talked to the jelly fish in the well, and looted the town, and now I'm gonna back out, snipe a treasure chest real quick, run back in, sleep in the inn, buy supplies and head out to sea. Apparently I'll meet Jessica on the boat or something, because I havn't met her yet.

This is good enough to beat Dhoulmagus in the Dark Ruins?
I beat him at levels lower then that, your levels are perfectly fine.
As for equipment...well I don't really know. If you need cash, you should try killing Gold Golems on the Isle of Neos for easy Gold, and the monsters in the Dark Ruins give suitable Exp.
Alright then, I'll give it a shot. How can I get some mighty bracers? I got Bandit's Mail, but I need two of those to make Gigantor Armor.

You should be able to throw all 3 ingredients in the pot at once.
Getting to level 30 before fighting Dhoulmagus will make life much easier. And considering you have fairly advanced weaponry and armour you should take him easily then. I started playing it the day the game was first released, and didn't have the luxury of gamefaqs. For instance, at that stage I had the War Hammer, but not the Uber War Hammer, because I didn't figure out the recipe until later. Anyways, I beat Dhoulmagus at level 30, so you should be able to easily beat him at level 30, or before as Zeromus_X said.
I'm not taking any chances. Here's my plan. i got all my armor, right? So I'm doing this: I'm gonna get a leather whip somehow, steal sickle all day, if I have to. Then I'm gonna mix it with scale shield, and mix that with a dragon scale to get dragonskin whip, right?
Then I'm gonna make Odin's bow (I'm in the middle of making Cherion's and I have a garter and a hunter's bow, so only a matter of time.)
I can't advance Yangus's weapons any further, but I am going to get a zombie'sbane sword and mix it with a holy relic and make a zombie slayer sword. Sound good? I figure fighting monsters who give on average about 600 EXP will take 28 battles to get to level 30, so it'll be good. I can do that while I'm item hunting. Is it bad that I put most of Yangus's skills into clubs, and the leftovers into scythes? I also put all of Angelo's into bows. All of Jessica's are going into whips, and leftovers go to sex appeal. My Hero I'm doing boomerang and swords (I got like 80 in swords, I think), then I was gonna go for Courage. Is this bad? Should I restart?
I wouldn't restart, but you should probably put some skill points into staves for Angelo and Jessica. His white magic and her black magic are very useful, especially his white magic. So if it'd be wise to pump a few full sets of 7 skill points into Angelo's staves, in order to get full-heal, multi-heal and resurrect. After that, balance the skill points out, to make sure you feed his stave skills. Do you have angelo's full-heal (full-cure, or whatever it is) yet?Quote:

What skills are recommended for what Characters.
Hero: My focus is boomberang and courage with a few points in sword
Yangus: Focus in Schythe and humanitarian (or wth ever)
Jessica: Whips and Sexyness with a little in Staff
Angelo: Charisma and sword with a little in staff
When you hit 99, can you have all these stats maxed out in anyway?
Well, yeah I have fullheal by Angelo and MIdheal by Hero, and the Holy Relic is a ring made from the rosary and something else.

yes, just go and kill Dhoulmagus. You have sufficient levels and weaponry, so go and own him already.
Haha, I destroyed him. Now I'm up to the part when I'm fixing to be able to fly, I think. I've got to go to an island somewhere and then to the pirate's cave, so this is exciting, 'cause now I can persue the Monster Arena some more (Which is basically what my favorite thing in the game is). I got stuck on Monster Class B, but I got the two Robots available to me, (I can get Nohi, now, but I can't access him, he's in flying places only). So good for me! I have a Uber Miracle Sword now <3. I'm possibly close to getting the Great Bow, and I need to use the gambling things to get 200000 for that whip. I'm also feverishly trying to collect mini-medals (I have Slime Crown and Rusty Sword, I just need Orichalcum...muahahaha...). Also I want the Flail of Destruction. I'm getting a Shimmering Dress (The ingerediants are in my pot, mixing), and I can't really advance anybody else's armor, but I'm about to get some Sacred Armor for my hero, so yay!
Don't waste time on weapons for Jessica and Angelo. Both the mages should have good staff powers, for the extra MP and spells provided. All Jessica will be doing is buffing/debuffing and Angelo heals for the latter parts of the game. Hero and Yangus are for melee attacks, of course. (Although I did find Angelo's 'Sarcastic Snigger' very useful for Captain Crow, but not much else. :cat: )
Yeah, but when I'm exploring the world battles go by much quicker when all 4 are attacking, and the occaisional field heal when need, you know? So having them be able to screw people up helps, a lot.
I just got some orichalcum, with 83 mini medals, so now I have the liquid Metal Sword. Any suggestions on where I can frequently, or infrequently, fight Metal King Slimes? I found I fight metabbles often enough on the high place in the Dark Isle. Also for Monster Class S how do I win? My Mazin died because he kept fighting the MLS, and my Triple Trouble didn't help much, either. Should I use the giant SLime King one, or the Legends? Or should I use my Brontes, Stereopes and Talos team? Should I make a new team of undead with Servant, Capers and Dead Noble? I need some help here. Use the Giant Dracky team? I'm kind of stuck on Morrie, because he just keeps attacking the metal slime and dying to his Servant.
If you're going to spend time in the casino, save up for 4 Liquid Metal Armour. Then the whip for jessica. I found being able to attack all enemies at once very useful.
The best place to find metal king slimes, metal slimes and liquid metal slimes is that mountain top next to Rydon's Tower. You'll need to be able to fly to get there, of course. You'll also find a great weapon here, which is very useful in the alchemy pot.
Already made a Megaton Hammer, but unfornately, I lost all my tokens. I also never found a metal king slime up on that hill. =( I'll go back, sometime. I need to get more money to get tokens. Any strategies on getting 50,000 quickly?
There's a slot machine there, that one of the waiters in the Baccarat hotel tell you is good winner. Its by itself, near a flowerbed. Sit at that one for a while, putting in the max bet, just save nearby and reset when you lose. You'll be able to win loads of tokens pretty quickly.
Though rare, the mountain top is where I found the most metal king slime encounters. They're ridiculous to kill, they usually run away, and they have 16hp, I believe. 30000 exp per kill, though.
I actually found that an encounter of 8 liquid metal slimes to be better. Each gives you lots of exp, and you usually encounter probably 6 or more at a time. They're also hard to hit and usually run away, too. The trick is to have Jessica cast accelerate (sometimes twice), have hero attack with the metal wing boomerang or metal slash (depending on the amount of enemies), and have angelo attack with metal slash.
Though frustrating to watch those slimes run away, its probably the quickest way to level up, especially as you gain higher levels.
Also try to get two falcon swords, one for Angelo and the hero (pending you don't have the Metal Wing boomerang), then they'll do two metal slashes for good damage. I also like to have Jessica use Twin Dragon Lash (whip skill) and she can hit twice for one damage each. With each Metal Slime only having four hit points I find this an easy way to kill several in one battle.
I never invested in Axe or Spear skills, so I'm seriously hampered in making such attempts. I have a liquid metal sword, Odin's Bow for Angelo (I've only invested in Bow and Stave skills, mmm shining shot, multishot is okay, as well). I use the Scourge Whip with Jessica, and I can generally kill about 2 metal slimes per encounter, and I think I've only killed one metabble, ever, and never killed a Metal King Slime.

Or have hero and Angelo attack with falcon swords, as Flying Mullet said. If this gives you two succesive attacks per person, then you should be able to damage the little metal dudes for 2-4hp per attack.Quote:

I haven't tried it yet, but perhaps you'll get 4 swipes at the metal slime. Although there's no guarantee you'll hit him all 4 times :p , there is a possibility of doing 4hp damage.
By the way, there's a ledge just south of the dragon graveyard (its in the desert up on the cliffs) that's only accessible by flying. At night (and at night only) there is a fairly high encounter rate of liquid metal slimes, which yield just over 10000exp each. They have 8hp, and they're way easier to defeat than the metal king slime. In fact, I'd say you'll have a much better chance at defeating 4 liquid metal slimes over the course of multiple battles than 1 metal king slime, because the metal king slime run so easily and has 16hp. Just use Yangus' whistle.

And I agree with the Liquid Metal versus Metal King Slime post above. I've killed too many Liquid Metal Slimes to count but only one or two Metal King Slimes. I even tried taking all armor off of my hero and equipping him with the Blade Armor in hopes of the Metal King Slime attacking him, but he attacks so rarely and it doesn't always return damage, so it's not really that effective.
I've noticed that at all the accesible by air places, there seem to be liquid metal slimes and bloody hands, and that's about it, really.
