Yeah I noticed that too.
It is true about the avatar part but I have seen sites with larger sigs before, though that is usually because there is no constraint on sig size.
You can always disable every image in your CP to save yourself future consternation. Failing that, use BoB's style.
Yeah this guy's got it right. This sigs here are nice and small.Quote:

I agree with Raistlin...again. I don't like it when I do that. :cat:
Turn off the sigs. The avatars look huge in comparison with nothingness.

Well agreeing with Raistlin is a good indication of madness.

I like the limits as is really. Although, I've never been to any other forums really to see how other limits look.
Most of the message boards I've been to have 60x60 avatars, and often people have sigs that go on for several pages. The wedding planning message board I post at, for example. 60x60 avatars, but the girls' sigs have wedding countdowns, "blinkies" of their names and their fiance's names, images that say "cat lover" and crap, and often links to their wedding webpages and journals. It drives me insane.
Given the choice, I think I'd rather have smaller sigs and bigger avatars. Like this little set I made earlier for another site:
http://x11.putfile.com/4/10900471287.jpg
http://x11.putfile.com/4/10823102010.jpg
It's not the biggest deal in the world to me, anyway.
Well, in nearly all the forums I have been the avatar limit is 150x150 O.O, and sometimes a sig limit of 500x250, 700x600, or any limit in some.
The set-up of this forum is the best i've seen, the black background makes things easier to read. But it's hard to find a sig that fits the 50x250 limit. Most are always over 250x height. :(
When you have more signature than content in your posts, I think there's a problem.
You could use a smaller signature if you feel that yours is too large? But the signatures and avatars aren't really directly related; there never shall be a tradeoff for larger avas in return for smaller sigs.Quote:

I think EoFF has small sigs, generally. Or it did. The limits have gotten bigger, but it's still kinda small. But it's good, because I don't like seeing gigantic banners.
I like the Sig limits. Huge banners that take up half the damn page are annoying. Though it was a bit tricky finding an Avatar.
I wish the avatar size was a little bigger. I can't tell you how many times I've been in MS paint trying to crop down an already distorted image three more pixels because I'm over. Ugh.
true thatQuote:

400 x 200 isnt too gigantic for a signature is it?
It's not really the smaller sig I'm interested in, so much as it is the bigger avatar. I prefer the 100x100 size. If I could make a tiny Gary the Rat avatar without it looking terrible, I'd use that smaller sig with it.Quote:

I'm already lobbying for a reduction is sig height limits.
i dont think the sigs are big. i always go over the limit with mine without even noticing. its really annoying having to resize it. so i think we should make those at least a little bigger in limit. the avatars i dont really care about.
Here at EoFF, we boast some of the largest and smallest phallic symbols on the internet in our sigs. Signatures such as mine really show this to be true. As far as avatars go, mine is absent on one of these right now. If you look at Boris No No's avatar, however, it looks very phallic. (i'm mentioning the one she used to use on EoFF and now uses on her LJ)
Good! I support your cause, eesty-pie.Quote:

Oh, god, I saw a Nascar forum (not that... I'm... you know... into Nascar...) where people were using frigging wallpapers as their sigs. It was ridiculous.
I mentioned/complained about this ages ago, then found out Im never listened too.
What a fool I was.
my long term forum had sig limits at something like 170x60.
That my friends is frustruating.
They didn't have avs at all. But then we started using a normal forums software (the guy wrote his own in mysql and it was terribly insecure) and were allowed 60x60 avs and signatures were eventually increased to something like 300x60.
but it's bad enough making icons for lj, which is 100x100. 60x60 is :(

I'm willing to bet that your dancing dinosaur signature has done the same to some of the people on the forums.Quote:

Shlup's Dinosaur rocks my socks. I really find no problem with sig limits. If it's that big, I think that's a sign to make the moniter's resolution a bit higher.
Hey, don't dis the dancing dinosaur, it's one of the best on the site. :DQuote:
