How horrible... No renting, borrowing, buying used copies...
Sounds crazy phony to me. Just my opinion. I'm not planning on getting one anyway...
Sony isn't that insane. Why forcing people to go online to play register their games would almost be as stupid as selling a console for $600. Oh, wait.
Although, I don't think people would notice if they had to click a little user agreement when they first play a game. Then Sony could just sue EBGames or whomever if they redistribute the used games, right?
Dumb idea, and if this does happen, I will not be getting a PS3, even though I won't be able to continue playing Final Fantasy, there will be better things in life I can use my 600+ dollars with.
Yeah like hookers.
Sony sounds as if they're trying to piss off their consumers from buying a PS3. I guess the next four or so years might belong to the Wii. >_<
i'll be pissed if its true
Probably not true. I mean, really. That would be so silly! :p
THis is where I think Sony will probably tumble. Not everybody is able to to connect their console online and get their game registered just so it can be played. Sony had better remove this or else they won't get very many sales.
If this is true then game stores might as well not sell anything PS3 except accessories because that is the only thing they could profit off of. New games and Systems don't have much mark up while a used game can have a mark up of almost 60%.
That would stick it to Sony and I am sure they are aware of this. If this is true it might be for Japan only where there was a ban on selling used games for year and it was lifted 2 years ago...or something.
I don't think it is true at all. It would be a shot in the foot and lock out codes wouldn't work unless the disc gets written to or it forces you to go online. Both of which would kill sales in general and the consumer would just go to the 360.
As said before, it will definitely injure their console sales if true.
Really don't think its happening. Sony is better at marketing than this. They know the consequences.
If that is true they should call the PS3 the PS64! OWNED!
This would be an incredibly stupid move on Sony's part, and I seriously doubt that they'd do something so damaging to their brand image, as well as their sales figures.
I'll have to agree with what Azar said in the PS3 Revealed Thread

Lol, thanks DK. But if this is 100% true Sony may lose fans due to it. The trade and borrow system with games is excellent and I personally didnt think Sony would be really arsed by it, They are a huge company and I didnt think they would lose that much. I mean lots of Sony consoles are soldy worldwide on a daily bases.
I don't think Sony are that crazy. If they are, well, I'd be very surprised - they were doing extremely well in the gaming market, I don't know why they would want out so desperately.
While it would certainly fit into their current strategy (alienate gamers as much as possible), I don't believe it.
This has been debunked. Sony said it isn't true.
Cid to the rescue. That's cool.Quote:

Thank god Cid's here to set things straight. Trying something like this with a console this expensive, and given it would be impossible to hide from the public for any length of time would be utterly stupid, and though the people at Sony may be jerks at times, and try to screw over the public on occasion, we'd be the fools to think they didn't realize how suicidal this would be.
Fact is, they denied this rumour last year, and since no mention of it has been made by them but to deny it, I don't see it ever happening. Since launch isn't that far away, odds are developers would already know about it if it were going to happen, and you'd have some consciencious developers spreading the word and shifting all of their support to Microsoft and Nintendo.
so if ur disk breaks u cant buy another one?
You can buy another one. It's as simple as walking into the store and doing so. :)
Everyone who reads this topic should go back and read Azar and Cid's posts before posting a reply. :p
Or that they're doing their best to weaken Sony because they have a competing game system. But sure, I agree to that being spyware, MS did the right thing.Quote:

I hope it's true. I'm sick of people refusing to pay for anything anymore. All the people who are going to bitch about it are the people who are responsible. Blame yourselves.
So true, so true.Quote:

yeah, the whole thing is retarded. Lets just think about this for a second. you are releasing a game machine $200 over the price point of competing machines. one of which is already established, the other has an innovative new concept, thus assuring both of them at least survival. You are the giant currently, looking to hold on to that share, and survive in a world where a large portion, if not most games are bought second hand, and a huge revenue is made from rentals due to the risk of a $60 title price, on a potentially crap game.
Why would you shoot yourself in the foot by alienating customers that much? i really think that would be the only move that could, and would, completely kill the Sony machine. never. gonna. Happen.
