Forum Staff Experience

This is a thread to tell us of your experiences as a staff member on sites, whether it be vbulletin, invisionfree, proboards, or whatever. Just tell us if you're still on staff on whatever forums, how long you've been on or were on staff, why you aren't on staff anymore (if not any longer), and well, whatever you want.

I've been an admin and I am currently an admin of 3 InvisionFree webistes, called Wolve's Den, Land of Realms, and Kingdom of Ani-Gamers. I'm completely in charge at Wolve's Den, it's my site, I didn't make it though, a friend of mine did but life started getting busy and she didn't have the time, where it came over into my possession. It's almost got 100 members, but not many are active, it currently as more of a cult following then anything else. It was made on March 31, 2005, I joined May 3th, 2005 and I was admined to root admin on September 23, 2005.

Land of Realms is a new forum, few members, nothing big so far, nothing big at all. I run in sort of a "partnership" with the guy who made the layout and etc. It was made July 6, 2006 and I joined and was made admin July 7, 2006.

Kingdom of AniGamers is also another partnership deal, my girlfriend (EoFF member, Daenerys) and I run it together and it's been mildly successful. It was made May, 27, 2006 and I joined and was admined on the same day.

I am a mod at one site currently called Realm of Fantasy, this site was the first site I was put on staff. Due to the poor judgement of the 12 year old (who lied to us and said he was older) who went admin crazy so now every active member is on staff save a select few. The place has had sour luck and has a smaller cult following than WDF and KoAG, most members have given up on making it larger, which is why there are still too many staff members. Realm of Fantasy was made January 30, 2005, I joined March 16, 2005 and was modded the same day.

I've been a moderator on four forums previously. One was Final Forums, I haven't been there in a long time but it died out quickly, I don't know how it's doing now, if it's still in existence. Another forum is the same case, Gamer's Delight died out in what seemed like no time, info is sparse, I was also moderator was somewhere called GMSR's Forum To Stay, which was a horribly amateurish site, and I tried to shape it up, which I succeeded in most parts in doing so, but the community forced me into leaving because they annoyed me, the site is shut down I believe.

I was a forum moderator for the site Gamer's Society, but I didn't care for the place, but I popped in to check the RP forum (which I moderated) that no one posted in, I was demodded for inactivity, I honestly don't care.

I am a former Cid's Knight at this here forum. I was also an Administrator at Fool's Gold, but resigned because it's not a great place.

Here, I was a Cid's Knight from late 2001 (or early 2002) to April 2004. before I resigned, I won a Best Cid's Knight Ciddie, so I must have been doing something right or was just a fun and well known knight at the time. By the time I resigned, my dad was diagnosed with stomach cancer, and had died in the summer of 2004. Anyway, that doesn't really involve EoFF, but was one of the reasons why I had resigned, along with the fact that I needed to move on, and that my girlfriend wanted my attention more. xP Unfortunately for the case, I hadn't moved on, as I stayed at the forums since then, but things are different with my girlfriend regarding staffing. As of last year, I had begun to regain new interest to return to this staff, so whenever the staff asks me to rejoin them, I may accept. That is if I get asked, and I don't think that may happen, but who knows? The current staff is a confusing one indeed, and I bet most of them don't like me anymore. :D

As for Fool's Gold, that place sucks balls. <3

EDIT: I also forgot that I moderated a few ezboards before I found EoFF. I like to call this part: Pre-EoFF. Back in late 99 to 2000, I was a member of a friend's messageboard on ezboard. Eventually, I moved up in the ranks and became a moderator of his forums. During this time, I ventured into various other ezboards and befriended several people. One was Brittk007, and Kefkathe3rd. I had close contact with the both of them and we were into Gundam Wing at the time. Shortly, my friend left his ezboard into the hands of our friend, Shykid, She renamed the ezboard and turned it into one about anime and videogames, and she, Britt, Kefka, me, and someone else were all admins of said ezboard, and we called ourselves the Fearsome Five, and each one took a role of a gundam character. Well, I'd say more, but it's boring*, so I won't bother.

* Not really.

I've adminned my own littled private boards in their various incarnations for years now, which is nothing in particular to boast about, seeing as how the activity peaks at all four of the active members being on at the same time. It's mostly a board for my friends and I to hang out.

I've been an EoFF staffer since June of last year, I think. Or late May? I don't remember exactly.

I was once Admin or Mod on many a forums. I let all spam go un-moderated, encouraged it even. I flamed, I banned, I unbanned, and in the end every forum turned out to be A-Okay!

Moral: Fish are better off in the sea. Really.

I was a mod on the first FF site I joined. I enjoyed it, but there is always someone who questions you for closing a thread or deleting a post, etc. Eventually they get banned.

I've been a mod or admin of this site ever since it started in December of 1999.

Other than that, I haven't had much experience. I was a moderator over at FFWA for about 3 weeks. Then the site went down for a couple months and when it came back, I didn't care about it anymore (and I still don't!)

Other than that, maybe I've been a moderator at some small EZboards or something, but in general they were small sites that really didn't need much moderation.

Only a moderator at FFNet. I feel like I'm to only one left. :(

I modded at a ton of random small forums. Was a mod at EoFF during the EZboard days, although I don't think I did too much, to be honest ;) I also modded on a relatively well known RO server's forums, but that didn't end too well.

My biggest experience with modding was probably when I co-owned (well, technically I still do ^^ But it's really died down and is pretty inactive now) a forums and was an admin there. They were quite active for a while, and it was fun, but geez the things you have to deal with. xD Being an admin/mod = responsibility, which is why I generally tend to shy away from those positions on bigger boards >:D I like being able to be silly and spam and stuff, without having to think, but waiiiit I need to set a good example, or something ^_^;;

I was a professor with no modding capabilities, which meant I just answered questions by students -.- at a very insecure MySQL based [customwritten] harry potter rpg. When the time came that the board was using up too much of the server's processor, we switched to phpbb2 and the professors were given global mod access after a while. The site is now totally defunct but used to be magichogwarts.com

I modded/mod a now-inactive not-dolling board, brightshinything.net. It's around, but hardly active at all.

I've modded at eoff for nearly a year now.

Operating channels is far more fun-- I had an sop for a while in #harrypotter in dal.net back when there were a ton of people in it, then there was an overthrow and I only had an aop afterwards, which ticked me off-- the chick that took over the channel was ttly a ho :] I never did much in there except kban a few floodspammers once xD

Then eventually I got an op in #magichogwarts when the people running it handed it over to the people who had been at the site forever, this may have been on dal.net or after dal was ddosed really bad one summer and we moved to dynastynet Somewhere along the line I ended up with founder access, but it died off with the site dying off:]

Sometimes someone gives me a halfop in #eoff, and those my friends, are the second happiest times of my life.

I'm a moderator at the Concerned Forums which is the forum for the Half Life 2 Concerned comic. Lots of members there. I also used to be a moderator at a forum called The Betrated before it fell apart. I was a staff member at Halflife2files.com, but that wasn't for forums.

Forum-wise, I am currently only a staff member on my own board, [Red Wings] (phpBB). I've been an administrator since its inception on May 3, 2006. I do not think that I shall ever leave; I know: surprising.

As an administrator, I have ran quite a few of my own hangout and joke boards, all on ezBoard, including Kill Dragons Because They Suck A**, [Adverse Babble], Esperwind, [Eyes Off Final Fantasy], and Kenshin Es El Stupido. They all met with varying degrees of failure and date from 2002 to 2006.

I also helped run a board called [Gaming City], which was owned by a guy named [Trunks]. I forget the exact timeline of this, but it was probably for several months that I stuck on staff. One slow week, I decided it would rouse interest if I banned him and took over the fora. I was banned after that, but I had indeed brought the amount of posts up a fair bit due to my coup.

As a moderator, I have moderated at a fair few boards. My favorite post was probably at [Psychotic Intent], an ezBoard. I was a moderator there from when I joined in late 2001 to when [Oni] finally moved ship to his new site in January of 2005. I never registered at the new PI because of issues with school, home, and work, so I never rejoined Oni's current staff. I still have my powers at the old board, but that's no real use. :o

Other fora I have moderated at include [Bleys'] [Vesper Network] and The Restless City. I modded at Vesper from almost the start of it as an ezBoard, through its reincarnation as a, what, invision board, to its sudden end a few months later. The Restless City, a board ran by a friend's friend who thought to add me to staff because I seemed competent. I worked there, again, from its near inception (2002) to its demise in 2004 because Stray was going through some artistic issues. Funky stuff.

I moderated [BoB's] LJ Forums for the entire week it was active. :|

That should be it. Most boards are not given links because they are either completely gone or I am completely unable to find them if they are not.

I'm a mod on Summoner's Final Fantasy forum. It's new, and pretty small, so there's not a whole lot of modding to do. I spend most of my time moving closed topics to the junk forum :p

Ive modded/admined/staffed on alot of forums, mainly anime related ones >.>, as a review writer/anime uploaded type person, and any forum I make lives for a fw months then dies a painful death, then gets reincarnated only to die again, im on my second attempt now, an Anime RPing forum, along with my other anime forum x.x

I have never been a moderator or administrator of any forums, ever.

I was made an admin at RuneCity after someone impersonated me going "oh look I'm Loony BoB from EoFF I'll make a great admin" - after it came to light that I wasn't thim (when someone tried to contact him using my EoFF profile), I registered out of curiosity... and they adminned me. Heh.

I think there might have been more but I guess I can't remember 'em all. I was also a moderator on Hot or Not for a while. That was interesting enough. I think I might have been given some kind of power at other boards such as The Final Fantasy Federation and whatever it was that Emma started up back in 2000 or early 2001, when FFI started up (I was never a staffer at FFI, mind you, only an advisor on occasion).

I was an admin at some site when it just started, but I forgot the name. Don't really care about it now though, only there a few days and lost interest.

Besides here, I only admin a little IPB on one of my servers that doesn't get much traffic.

I hang around a number of sites/forums, but I mostly just write code and help with servers. :)

Mod at ffclassic when Unne had boards for a few months in '03. (phpBB)

Admin at Fool's Gold. I think I would have gone crazy if I'd stayed. (vB)

Admin at tGA still. It's dead so I never go now, but I guess I should. (IPB/vB)

I Admin over at House of Happyness. Its a small proboard, but its fun. I've been a staff member there since like, November, I think...
I do alot for FFProject too. I'm not on staff, but if they had a site staff, I'd be on it. I can't code, but I'm helping with alot of the info for their frontsite...

I admin at the Blootix Revolution forums, which are forums that revolve around KH and FF. Right now it's down for a bit, but that'll change. It's doing decently, but it'll probably pick up once summer ends.

I was a powerwhore admin once but everyone left because I was an ass.

I've been fearlessly modding the Site Staff and secret site staff forum here at EOFF against terrible atrocities and people who don't take time to read for some time now. You wary travelers have nothing to fear if you ever go to that lonely lonely place.

I am presently the greatest Cid's Knight at Eyes on Final Fantasy, based purely on tic-tac-toe ability. (Ask Maxico)

I was also the greatest "High and Mighty" at Eyes off Final Fantasy, because I merged threads on two separate occasions, but Rainecloud screwed me out of becoming an admin and I hate him.

Global mod at a GTA SA forum which was almost the same size as this but then the guy who ran it couldn't afford the hosting anymore and it imploded.

The only one I think counts is EoFF. I enjoyed it very much, but some people take this [img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img] way too seriously and do their very best to suck all the fun out of it. I'd love to do it again, but I think most would agree that it's better if I'm not given power ever, ever again.

Umm, I believe that I used to be a mod at a Final Fantasy forum before I ever came to this one. I really don't remember the name. I might be imagining this, but I don't think so. Man, I wish I could remember the name.

Also, I was an operator at Norway's biggest chat. That doesn't sound big, but it kinda was.

They all went to hell. Except, HoFF which is barely alive. They also removed my smilie editing skills because I removed the pimp smilie and replaced it with Anna Nicole Smith. Twice. I still haven't gotten my medal for that.

I've been a moderator at several different small forums. They've all died, though - due to the small communities dying out.

I currently am a Global Moderator on a PHPBB board (Talk-central), but I don't visit there very often due to the Administrators and the other Moderators not following the board rules themselves. I can't enforce the rules when I'm the only staff that does. I enjoy being a Mod at places because it gives me stuff to do. :jess:

I was a moderator at an RPG Maker community back in 2001. Those were good times. The best period was 2001-2003 when it was pretty popular—we even got into a rather pleasurable feud with Don Miguel's forum. I was made admin about 3 days before it shut down in early 2005. (This might not be entirely correct, I tried my best to remember)

I was a forum moderator and an in-game moderator of an online game—one which I am too embarrassed to mention. The perks of this was having free access to the official forum. I resigned from the forum moderator part because I don't plan on returning any time soon and having me on the list would be a waste of space.

Oh, I was also mod at the Fat Elephant forum. That was my favorite. :smash:

I've been a Knight at EoFF since about February 2003. I think. Not sure about that date and I don't want to do a search at the moment.

I was also an Admin at Fat Elephant. That was fun, and the hardest part about the whole time I was there was trying to figure out how to unban Meat Puppet after HOOTERS banned him for doing something that escapes me at the moment. :)

Oh yeah. I was admin there too. :D

If Hoot ever wants the forums back I still have a backup, I think.

EoFF EzBoard was my first mod spot. I modded into the UBB/early vB stage, roughly about a year.

I was a mod at FFWA for a while (this was when FFWA was waaaaay bigger than EoFF).

I was adminned at tGA in January of 2000. I worked alongside several other admins for a couple of years, and have since taken ownership of it. It started as an EzBoard, then an IPB, and is now a vB.

I modded at Aiyon for a bit, if only the ORPG forum. I had my own nifty little icon, too.

I modded/adminned at FG for a while. Yeah, I'm not too proud of it.

I modded/adminned at a bunch of small EzBoards. Like Jojo's crappy old EzBoard which I took over in a revolt against the staff (no joke).

I also admin at Red Wings, the most awesomest place ever. It's awesome.

I once was a mod at a board for a game I played who the game makers never finished making and further, they were tyrannical. The game traditionally was made fun of constantly (in good humor of course) because it was in fact terrible, but addicting. ERA Online. Anyways, I was a mod at their forum for a bit until I started trying to make the forums more active and then ran a crazy contest which I said had no prizes and they closed it saying "We do not sanction contests outside administration approval that give out prizes that we never promised" and the thread definitely said that there would be no real prizes given. Well after debating, they kicked me off the team where I persistantly battled and they banned me for a bit. IT doesn't matter, like every other shard of EO, Era Online 2 failed as well.

I was a mod for a place called drks basement when it was hosted by invisionfree. But when it moved to v3n and renamed "the basement" he did not re make me a mod but he did to everyone else. I hateed that, he had no excuse.

I was vaguely involved with EoFF for a while. I ran my own forum once until everyone ticked me off enough that I had to close it down. tGA doesn't count as a real forum, sorry Raist.

Generally my experience involved being drunk on power and crushing my enemies with an iron ogre-like fist. Something like that. I rather didn't enjoy it most of the time, however that is because I was screwy at the time.

I have left moderating the Site Staff forums as of today.

I modded here between July 2003 and (I think) May of this year.
Gave up on it for various reasons.

My first mod spot was at a friends small forum, as Head Moderator, and being my first mod experience, I did a lot of things wrong, and often got in trouble with the owner.

I was an Admin at Venom/Arucards original forum (I think it was the original) and quite a lot of fun there, until it got suddenly deleted.

I made my own forum, The Final Dimension, which is very dead, and only used to post my stories (I then link to the stories, beats posting it/sending it all the time). Someday I hope to revive it, but im too lazy.

I have also been a mod at DoC Forums, but never did a thing, and ive been offered a mod position a few times for various sites, but turned the position down.

I was also made an admin for a closed forum so I could acess the old threads, as I was writing a story out of a thread there, and never got all the resources before the place closed. I got de-admined of course when it reopened.

I started out as a regular member at tGA around December 2003/January 2004 (during the time when we still had the old board before we moved to this current version of vB we now have), but thanks to my contributions to the development of the site and to the story of the RP itself over the course of the year I was eventually made an admin sometime around December 2004. Since then I've actively participated in the RP, had discussions with other members of the staff about the technical stuff and the overall story of the RP, and all in all I've had a good time with all the members.

It's been a nice experience so far (and a good way to see what is expected from an admin in a forum), and I hope we can continue to keep the community alive despite the vicious cycles of activity and inactivity. Thanks to my time at tGA I also got to know quite a few members better (be it people from FFR, Fool's Gold, Aiyon or EoFF), and I appreciate that. :)

Cidding here was fun, most of all I was very complimented that people wanted me to! Don't think I'd been here that long at the time so it was a surprise. xD But then life kinda has to take over from working on a forum unfortunately ;_;

First forum I was staff at was Free Writer's Forums, from May 2002 to some time I can't really remember; it's an off-shoot of the FF:WA writing boards when for a while, they banned original fiction. Also, I had FTP access there for a while, which is always fun.

I was a Cid's Knight here at EoFF for over a year, from February 2003 to March 2004, and got FTP access in August 2003. I admit, I didn't really enjoy my time as a Cid's Knight, but I got into it for all the wrong reasons which was probably most of the problem, compounded by my general views on how things should be run conflicting with most other staff member's.

EDIT: I've also been Site Staff here since before I was Knighted, and during one of my more active spells, I was Senior Site Staff as well, though a certain cockjockey keeps demoting me.

I also have FTP access over at tGA, meaning I could in theory, after doing a bit of research, make myself an admin and ban everyone from the place. Not happened yet, but you never can tell with me.

That's about it really. I don't particularly want to be staff on any forums anymore, but I mostly attribute that to my general disenchantment with the internet. I figure even at my ripe old age I could do with some more maturing, so I'm not saying I'll never be staff at a forum again, maybe even here. If they haven't already learned their lesson XD

I wonder if I still have ftp/cp access over at tGA. I remember that I stumbled upon pictures of a shirtless Wes one time and I don't think I've logged in ever since.

The only time I've ever been an admin is at forums I've created (all dead, all dead, lah-dee-dah~); even my friends don't trust me to mod at their forums. >=(

I was an admin at Daryl's old forums.

I think the first forum I ever modded at was a small invisionfree one that I'd joined on a whim when someone PMed me about it here. I got a rather popular RP going on that site and we had a decent (for an invisionfree board) amount of members, and I'd done a lot for it, so I was eventually modded and then adminned.

I've made a few of my own boards on invisionfree, usually on a whim, and they tend to not last very long nor be very noteworthy.

I was offered a position on another board, Megaforums I believe he calls it now, which I did for awhile. But I never really took to that particular forum, so while I've been offered a position and have tried to get some roleplays going there a time or two, I'm not really inclined to go back.

I became a mod here... a year or so ago? Something like that. I'm rather enjoying it, it's a lot different with so many people and a lot of fun.

Not counting the penis spam we get every now and again.
