Top 20 Gay Game Characters

I blatantly stole this from the Edge forum, which is another games Forum I use. Some of you may have heard of a website called GayGamer.net which is a pretty funny, good-natured website and not full of vitirol or anything. They recently done a poll on who are the most 'Gay Game Characters' in videogames today. The results are pretty surprising to say the least, especially at the Number One spot! This is the countdown, from Number 20 to Number One:

What do you guys think? I pretty much think Luigi should have been there and Link is one of the Gayest Icons out there (He recently won an award for being a Pin-up by some magazine).

I saw that list on the gaymers LJ community. It annoyed me. Cybil Bennett is on there, but Flea (CT) and Pierre (CC) are not? C'mon! Poorly researched.

I thought it was weird Raikov is so blatantly gay but he's so high on the list.

I don't think Link belongs on the list because he isn't gay. Just because Out magazine called him the hottest male game character doesn't make him anything. I used to call Lance Bass hot but that doesn't make him-....:shifty:

It has been hinted that Venom from Guilty Gear is gay and they dont say it? @@; Then again i dont see why it really matters...

Dunno if you are serious about Benimaru(SNK says he isnt gay, if you know he hits on girls only).

But Zangief is definetly gay officially from Capcom.

I didn't even think of Zell being homosexual until I read roto's essay, but even then I think that's just ridiculous, unless it's made obvious in the Japanese version or something (he eats some sort of bread in the JP version anyway, not hot dogs).

I reckon just about every man in GG is gay. Especially that guy who fights with an umbrella, then again, he could actually be a woman who was raised as a man...knowing Guilty Gear it wouldn't surprise me.

I always thought that Fox from Bloody Roar was a manly woman, not a womanly man... well, I guess I was wrong about that one then.

Anyway, I read further into it and found many disturbing gay references to Solid Snake's name o_O I'll never be able to play Metal Gear Solid again :(

Actually, that's never been confirmed. Only hinted at. If that doesn't mean anything to you, then remember Zangief's ending in CFE?

If you look at the plot guide, Tiamat says at first that Saiki told him that Zangief was gay, but then a few sentences down, he says something like "but so far, people have been unable to find the official source that states Zangief is gay."

I think maybe Capcom just meant to make him SEEM gay when he either is just trying to intimidate someone or be a complete oaf (like his quote in CvS2 where he says he should be in a magazine). Plenty of characters do that.

But Eagle has actually been confirmed to be gay by Capcom. Which doesn't surprise me since he's obviously a homage to Freddie Mercury, who was also gay.

I'm surprised Ash Crimson isn't on that list. He is the true epitome of gay. He dresses like a girl, says all this disturbing stuff to Kyo and Iori, and hell, there's even an official picture by the KoF 2K3 artist (Falcoon) that shows him about to kiss Shen Woo.

And why the hell aren't 75% of the Guilty Gear males on there? Barring Johnny and Faust, aren't most of the males gay? :P Especially Bridget.

Breine, I think Fox is actually supposed to be a woman in Japan. Makes a lot more sense than him (or is it her?) actually being a man.

Actually the only evidence that caused people to think Sol was gay was during the Drama CD Ky dies fighting of some Megadeth Class Gears. When Sol arrives on the scene he finds Ky, picks him up and he dies in his hands. Upon death Sol is devistated. But then I-No makes a deal with That Man, goes back in tims, interferes with the battle causing Ky to become injured but still alive.

The only Guilty Gear characters, whom I'm 100 percent sure arent gay are Johnny and Axl. Johnny likes women, even though he's in love with May (which kinda makes him a pedophile, unless their love isn't romantic since Johnny adopted May), and Axl learns about That Man from Anji, he asks if Axl would join him and Axl says "I'm not into walking hand in hand with another man".

And now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Kuja is the foundation for the 2000's term of "metrosexual". He didnt seem that gay to me, besides his showgirl fashion sense. He spoke pretty masculine (didnt use any fruity descriptions like "pretties" or "sweetie").

I for one cant judge I thing, I havent really seen any openly gay people on a game.

This list is wrong. Raphael from 2? Yes. But Raphael is Dracula in three. And no way is Dracula gay. I like how characters that actually are gay are beaten by some others that aren't. And also, they forgot Benimaru Nikaido (already mentioned but worth rementioning because...well, you know...look at him).

*I am uncomfortable with the word "gay" - and with all other sexual labels - because I see them as an attempt by modern society to sort people into neat categories...rather like specimens at a zoo - and to simplify something (sexuality) that is extremely complex. Sexual labels are constraints.... They limit us and dictate to us who we *can* and *cannot* fall in love with - to fit into our assigned sexual category. If a "gay" man falls in love with a woman...must he start calling himself "bisexual"? Has he become a "bisexual"...? Even if he only ever loves that one woman...? Is that *enough* to make him a "bisexual"...? And so on.... These are some of the problems that sexual labels present us with.... Best to do away with them altogether, IMO. As far as I'm concerned, there is only sexual behaviour - not fixed sexual identities.
