The Pentagon, the Capitol, and the White House's west wing are all being evacuated. All New York airports have been closed, and Manhattan has been sealed off. Hopefully, this will stop anybody from causing anymore damage, but the damage that has already been inflicted is...unbelievable. The upper halves of the twin towers are up in black smoke...

The people behind it are allegedly the FDLP. Being an organisation and not a country it'd be awfully hard to go to war with them, they live secretive lives, spread everywhere, and rely on attention grabbing attacks like these, along with car bombings and such.

The most annoying thing is that .. the planes that crashed into the trade centre were civilian planes. Normal people, like the rest of us, were in them when they were hijacked. It's not fair.

I just saw on the news Palastinians partying in the streets. The terrorist expert said that they are happy cuz now the Americans knows the pain they've suffered for a long time. I just saw the interview of ex-prime minister of Israel (Can't remember his name), and he says that every country (including Russian, China, Japan) and union has to put their hands together and hunt down the terrorism. This is very shocking ot me. As I sit here in class, my school is in shock. All activities are canceled at my school. I think it's overreacting, but, beter safe than sorry.
Then there's the comparisons to Pearl Harbor - this is much worse. First, there's been more casualties than Pearl Harbor if I remember correctly, second they're all civilians and not a military post, and third; in Pear Harbor, we knew who attacked us; we don't know who attacked us now. You shouldn't blame people in Europe or other parts in the world for thinking 'Thank God that it didn't happen to me/us' in the first moment, it's just a natural reaction to bad things. In the first moments of the shock you take some comfort in the fact that you, your relatives and friends are alive. I too, calmed myself with this a bit. But then I saw pictures of the American embassy in Berlin being closed. Security men with drawn weapons and a tank! Then I knew for sure, that this incident was something that concerns the whole world. All countries should work together to fight global terrorism.

it is sick I live in baltimore an hour from d.c. and like two from NY and we are freaked. we know the chance of us getting hit is rare but we are all in shock they say 50,000 people worked in those buildings and they estimate only 2,000 were evacuated after the first plane hit. Then striking the pentigon puts everyboby at risk of nuclear attacks and what then the bomb at the state department and they say something happened at the white house. These are truly sick people. We are going to hunt these people down and I would bet the get the death penelty. and they say over 1 hundred people were on each plane and all the debry falling on people it is just sick.
as for who did it i would guess a major terreist group and probably a country supported them fincial because this was a well planned attack agianst civilian targets. so i wouls say from the middle east definatly not IRA or some people with too much free time

They think it's honor the be a human bomb. While ago I read an article how Palestinian father proudly said how his son will be suicide bomber. Life doesn't mean much to them. There's lots of anger and hate in these people, and that shows.

I'd just like to offer my condolences to everyone who has suffered losses todya. You know, we've been talking about who did it, and why they did it. But we are ignoring the fact that thousands died today.
It could have so easily been us...so I offer my condolances, to the family of those who died today.
Even though I'm in the UK (England) I'm speechless by this tragedy. I got back from my work experience to see the news on the tele and the first thing I saw was footage of the second plane crashing into the second Tower of the World Trade Centre. I was horrified.
The news sickened me and I know that once the culprits and the country that backed them finicially are found, the USA will not hesitate to totally level that country.
If you have lost any relatives or anything in this tragedy then you have my deepest sympathy.
I'm pretty scared that London will be attacked because my area is only five minutes away from London.
So I wish you all good luck in getting through this crisis and I hope this dosen't lead to anything bigger, and hopefully not a 3rd World War.

I also believe that this situation can be turned upside down. That Superpowers like Russia, China et cetera would join USA in their fight againts the terrorism and would try attempt to kill it for good.
People who are still thinking of World War, it's not gonna happen. I can't see any way how there would be a World War. I doubt that Russia or China would attack USA when they go to terrorist hunting. As I said, I wouldn't be surprised if they helped them.

This is nothing as to what I expected... I've been wondering why this has been happening... I had really gotten scared when Somerset County in PA was hit because I only live about 20 miles from there. The estimated casualties hit 10,000. I really hope for the best for all the families that lost relatives.

I didn't know the extent of the damage when I was at school. Me and a few 6 formers (12th Grade?) Were laughing over it, saying how come they couldn't of aimed at Bush, that sort of thing. But, yeah, got home, saw the news and well, this is pretty big.
But, I doubt they will be a war. From what we know, the attack was not ordered by a government, thus no war can come of it, well, not a world war. But, I'm rather shocked at my behaviour.

Yup, thats right, nothing. I shrugged it off when I first heard and when I saw the footage, nothing. Yeah, I felt angry towards the people who did it, but...nothing else. No surge of emotion or anything, I saw the crash and I thought nothing of it, just like I would a film.

But then again...
It just shows how accustomed we are to wrong doing. We see violence on the news, masses lying dead, masacred in the East, but we dont have big threads like this do we? We don't say 'isn't it a shame?'...nor do we have an uproar. This is just the same though isn't it?

It's only when it's closer to home that we notice, that we grieve, that we say isn't it a crying shame, should'nt these sick people be brought to justice.
Maybe we only care about things that are on our doorsteps.

I didn't read this whole thread, but I'm sure anything factual I could add has already been said.
I'm feeling physically ill at both the sheer horror of the situation, and the sheer relief that my parents flew home yesterday, and not today. And I'm a little scared; I'm not too far from Chicago, and I have a brother (along with his sister and their son) who live in a Chicago suburb.
School is being infested with terrified paranoia, yet no classes or anything has been cancelled. So we all go to class adn talk about this the whole time, getting nothing done. In my music rehersals, we've tried to practice, and we all sound horrible singing, hands shaking on keys. My piano teacher was nearly in tears because her sister works at the United Nations complex and her family has not heard from the sister yet.
I don't know what else to say. I just hope we get this resolved quickly, with minimal carnage. Too many ahve died already. And what really pisses me off, is that they were primarily innocent, innocent to whatever cause of teh terrorists (i.e., those on the hijacked planes). Their deaths didn't even have meaning for the terrorists, they were just in the wrong plane at the wrong time. Horrible.

This whole mess is so foolish. How does a terrorist's mind work? Why is killing a large group of civilians supposed to help whatever cause motivated this? How can a person believe that an entire country is unified in evil? SHAME.
(Side note, regarding fanatical education - members of the Taliban state that they care for nothing but the Quran . . . and a lot of them can't read.)
And the Palestinians dancing in the streets - DAMN those idiots. Do they seriously think that no one in the U.S. belives they deserve a homeland? That every American is behind Israeli actions all the way? Particular Israelis and particular Palestinians have done evil, evil things to innocent people in the Middle East. But I try to believe that most people are just people, concerned about their work and their families, but unwilling to destroy the families and livelihoods of others. The dancing in the streets tests that belief. I hope that in Palestine there are many who feel for those killed and wounded in the U.S. just as many of us here feel for the victims there.

Florida Governer Jeb Bush has asked three things of the citizens of Florida: to wave our American flags at half-mast, to contact blood centers and donate our blood to the injured who need it, and to pray for the tens of thousands of people who have been injured or killed.
I don't own an American flag (I'm not what you'd call a patriot), but I am already looking into donating my blood and am constantly praying (not to God, but in general) for the safety of the initial survivers.
I implore you citizens of other states to carry out Jeb's requests as well, at least to the best of your ability. It's the least you can do.

I still can't believe all this, it seems like I'm watching a movie. But it unfortunately is not. It's going to take weeks, if not months, to get a final death toll, which will probably be an unbearable amount. My school closed at 1:00 and a vigil is planned for this evening on campus.
This will be one of those events everyone remembers where they were for the rest of their life. I remember where I was during the Oklahoma city bombing and when Princess Diana died. This is another I will always remember. I will always remember the reaction I had when I turned on the news this morning.
As to a war . . . I kind of doubt there will be one. We don't even know who did this yet. Plus it was probably a group not a country.

Well, I finally made it to a computer. As many of you know, I live in NY. Well, my family picked a bad weekend to take the 12 hour drive from hom to NYC. I am in the city now, and I had just been in the WTC yesterday. It's very frightening. I never thought about this happening and I haden't expected I'd never get into the WTC again... I did get to see the planes fly into the trade center, and I can honestly say I am thouroughly scared. I wont be home until the 14th so I hope everything is alright back up in western New York.
I am terribly sorry for anyone who was hurt or had relatives who were hurt..
My family and I were luckily very far away from the attacks, but still visible... I am really sorry for you all...

I walked into fourth period today, Advanced Life Science, and my teacher had the TV on. I had no idea what it was. I thought it was a memorial for a bombing in the past. But after watching it a while, I found out it was all too true. My friend and I were both shocked.
Later that period, the principle said not to watch it but to continue with class. That's what sucked. It's really stupid to sacrifice history in the making for a day of learning, which could always be re-done.
I'm really outraged with my school system right now. I also hope that the terrorist die a slow, painful, awful, disgusting, and unsanitary death. This is just wrong.
I live in north Carolina and only a few miles from Camp Lejune and on the news they said that they think there will be a plane crash in Camp Lejune too. My dad and many of my friends moms or dads work there. The roads in and out of Lejune are closed right now and my dad is stuck there. Since they think that Camp Lejune will be the next to be attacked they are now shooting down all passenger planes that fly over Camp Lejune. I'm just praying that this does not turn to using atomic bombs on the cities of the US because if that happens, Camp Lejune will be the first to go...............

I just saw some footage on TV that I hadn't seen previously; people hanging out from the windows of the Trade Centre.
I'd seen the pictures of the explosions and the aircraft flying into the buildings, but this was something else entirely. It really hits you when you see the people. It's devastating.

This is just plain horrible. I was in study hall today when the intercom came on. It was the Principal. She said that two planes hit the WTC in New York and another hit the Pentagon. I was totally stunned and more so when I went to 4th period when I saw that one of the Towers were gone. When i saw the second collapse and all the other damage I was in shock and still am.
This (hopefully) will not lead to another WW. My prayers go out to all the people and thier families who fell victim to these horrific acts of terrorism. *prays*

Well, NY isn't burning, alhough there were reports of fires in DC, and nobody knows whether these terrorists have finished or not.
Of course these striking similarities could be explained in a few ways, I will discuss a couple:
1) These similarities are human adaptions of a situation to a vague prediction.
2) The events were premeditated to conform to the prophecy.
Other than that I am extremely greif-striken as I hear more and more about this. What kind of perverse mind comes up with these sorts of plans. Who would plot out the times of the hijackings, the targets, and all of the other details involved in this intricate act of terrorism? Even more important: Who gave the terrorists the money they would have needed to fuel this attack?
I also firmly believe that all those resonsible should be punished, but I am not crying out 'NUKE THIS PLACE' 'KILL (insert country here)!' I hink that we should do a couple of things first:
a) Treat our wounded, and save as many lives as possible.
b) Determine the persons responsible for this act of violence.

This is scary...my Mother taped the footage, so I could watch it, specifically the trade towers collapsing..and to think that last night I was worried about myself.
This is quite possibly the worst terrorist attack...ever. Most likely more than 50,000 killed, up to 100,000. Downtown Manhattan is essentially gone...I live in Canada, but this is quite scary. The US will hunt for a political scapegoat...what will come of that remains to be seen.
This is sickening. Truly sickening. My Dad, for one, has lost friends, and he's really emotional...I have trouble grasping this.
Some grade 9 girls were laughing about it near the end of the day...I suppose they don't understand the magnitude of this. This is just terrible. All day long we were watching the news at school. I think i'm one of the few kids in my school who are acually taking this seriuosly. Some idiot 7th graders were going around saying stuff like "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!" Jesus, why do they have to be so immature? Expecially since Baton Rouge, LA (where I live) is one of the top ten terrorist attack sites. Yeah, its pretty small in population, but it is very valueable because of the Exxons (high gasoline). If they attacked a chemical plant, it could explode and cause a chain reaction and destroy most of Baton Rouge. Yeah, I know, its highly unlikly, but its always better safe than sorry.

Its just a tragedy. Its like something straight out of movie, its so hard to comprehend. I just saw a segment on the news, a british reporter who was in the building as the planes hit was giving an interview to a US show, and you saw the tower collapse behind him. Its just horrific. You don't really understand what it was like until you see the towers collapse...its just terrible.
As for the war, i seriously doubt there is going to be one. What is there to go on? It wasn't an ordered attack by the country, it was more a terrorist attack on the US. When a giant explosion rocked the first Tower, on replay, what was said? "Sweeeeet!"

I was watching CNN, earlier. They were giving a profile on one of their correspondants who just so happened to have been on one of the planes. She had made a cell phone call, reporting the terrorists had been armed with knifes and cardboard cutters. Can you imagine being thrown in the back end of an airplane, flown to your death? Haven't any of you expected something like this? I know it is horrible and evil and something that should not have to be viewed by anyone, something that should have never happened. But you all act like you're surprised about all of this, sooner or later we would end up having a terrorist attack more horrible than any other. I'm not one to care much about anything, but when I do, I tend to look at it logically. The USA has been acting like global police ever since it became a world power. People don't like being pushed around, people hit back. And it is especially easy for small terrorist groups to hit like this. I once saw in a movie someone say that anyone can assassinate anyone else, if willing to pay the consequences. Well if enough people rally together, they can assassinate a power, and If they die, then there are no more consequences. I may seem like this doesn't effect me, and I try to make it not effect me, so I can look at this logically.
Just saw on TV, if there is a retaliation, most likely on afganistan. Also, a trial for an associate of ben ladin, who has been blamed for a different bombing attack, had been schedualed for tommarow. I also agree with Red Wizard in that they have said that fires were in NY and the smoke has been making it impossible to find out how strong the fires are.

I just saw the worst clip on TV...It was from right under the tower, and you saw the plane go into the tower and just explode right inside. This is terrible.

EDIT: Goodbye Taliban... The news just broke again, and Afghanistan's capital Kabul is in flames. The media explanation is that we've been warning them about the consequences for housing Bin Ladin if anything else should happen. Since they're 90% sure now it's Bin Ladin, this is the punishment.
Wars go on every day. There are plenty of wars going on right now. The US was in the Gulf War a couple years ago, and we had plenty of nuclear weapons then. And we had the conflict in Kosovo more recently, among others. War doesn't automatically mean we're going to blow the planet up. There's no need to start panicking.

I've decided to come back for this event...
All day long I lived under fear, knowing that I was next. My house is surrounded by several key targets: Camp David, The Underground Pentagon, and Fort Dietrich. All of which were speculated to be the terrorist's next targets. Camp David was targeted, and was attacked.
My life was spared by four minutes.
Four minutes, and that plane would've crashed and then boom. No more Squeegee. No more innocent people in this area. I was sick. Then that plane crashed.
And now NATO's bombing them. I support that. I hope we nuke and kill the bastards who did this. No one messes with America. The threat of war should be acted upon accordingly. You threaten us? I'm looking at this in the sense that our military has been squandered. We've tried pacifism. It failed! FAILED! We try to negotiate, we get bombed. We sign Geneva, it fail! That makes them part of that country, if they are hired out by the government. It is then the country's fault.

OK, so the world trade center was destroyed and the pentagon and pittsburgh were attacked...MANY MANY US casualties....but then again, Iraq, Sudan, and Afghanistan have suffered civilian casualties on our hands...so maybe going out and "Nuking the Muthaf***rs" would be a little drastic, no? I personally think the terrorists will get off Scot-free. I mean, if it is Osama Bin-Ladin, we've spent millions of dollars trying to kill this guy. He's bombed embassies and killed americans for WHO knows how long. And we've only caught the minor guys in all these USS Cole explosions, embassy bombings. In this case, the minor guys were kamikaze...so no getting them. So, im fairly sure that the terrorists will go unpunished and this even will fade like the other events.
And about going to war...Im pretty sure if we attacked Afghanistan with no REAL reason, the other muslim countries would rally behind them. And "so what" you say...."we can take them all out." I would have to agree with LoonyBob. It wasn't Afghanistan, but a terrorist group that has attacked the U.S. I hope they find out who did this before any more mistakes are made and any more lives are lost.
Hmm... yeah, I agree on that note. If a government is working with the terrorist, then bomb the government facilities. Not for the mere point of revenge, but to prevent killing in the future. Death leads to life, kinda.

I can't really add anything because there really is nothing left to add. I have been in a sad state of shock all day since first finding out what happened listening to Howard Stern on the radio. Then finally seeing everything happen on the news when I arrived to my college and seeing everyone huddled around the tv in the room watching the news.
It really hit home for me when I actually got home and began watching the news in depth. Seeing the video again and again of the plane crashing into the second tower. I thought glumly that everything that happened was one hell of an organized attack. The attack on the World Trade Center was terrible, but as well as a diversion. Then the Pentagon itself was attacked as well as several other buildings. No one has ever reportedly tried to take out the Pentagon before. That is a first. And then pure physics told someone that the WTC towers would eventually collapse.
Make no mistakes about the events today. They were terrible. They were unforgettable. The United States was embarrased today, the military in particular by the Pentagon getting hit. There is no doubt in my mind that America will not stand being embarassed.
But realise one thing for those of you who live in the US. No matter what course of action is taken, not everyone will be completely happy. For years and years the US has had it's hands tied over terrorism and security by activist groups who say we go to far with it. I'll be the first to admit, however, the the US has certainly been involved in things we should never have been involved with in the first place. But a line must always be drawn at some point. It is my hope that most people realize that that line has been drawn, crossed, and pissed on today. I hope justice is served.
This will be an unforgettable day. It'll be one of those instances where people say "Do you remember where you were when you heard that the World Trade Centers were struck?"

My school was on national news, yet we didn't evacuate at all. Goose Creek naval weapons station. Second largest port on the east coast(Charleston) + naval weaponry. Yep, not bad for a target. The weapons station evacuated 17,000 military + civillian people. Stratford is RIGHT NEXT TO the station. Like, less than a mile. We stayed in school all day. In fact, I took two tests today. >_<
The whole middle east is a giant trout hole. They have so many terriorist groups and wars over there that it just doesn't matter any more. We need to go over there and kick some ass! Demand that the governments over there help us search for the terroists. We have had a bunch of terriorists attacks in the last years and they keep getting worse.
