The Shinra Tower, where my beloved lives.
Bastok always feels like home.
I too loved Esthar. The colours of that place were pefect, and the general aesthetics are the most attractive I've seen in a FF location. The technology just seemed to be beyond science-fiction even. It is for me a truly magical part of Final Fantasy VIII. However, such love led to a broken heart after it was invaded by creatures thanks to Lunatic Pandora.
Therefore, I'll have to choose somewhere else. And, despite the feeling of disappointment in playing Final Fantasy X, I'm going ot nominate "Zanarkand Ruins" as my joint favourite place ever in Final Fantasy. The pyreflies and the apparitions were fantastic. It's one of the eeriest locations in a Final Fantasy game.
I say joint favourite, because the "City of the Ancients" is Final Fantasy perfection too. Also involves the only event in a Final Fantasy game that brought me to tears...:(
Zanarkand Ruins...The music was so beautiful,it made me shed a wittle tear the first time I got there.
Esto Gaza. It looked like such a peaceful and holy town. Plus the music was really calm, serene, and very inviting.
Salonia.
Burmecia, the city of eternal rain. Freya's hometown...
Zanarkand, the city that never sleeps.

With quick thinking, I would probably go with Alexandria. A nice kingdom with a very beautiful princess/queen, the play "I want to be your canary" every year and some other cool things. :)
Not to mention that it's defended by Alexander?
Black Mage Village. Nice design of the houses + good music. Yup, I always liked to be there. Not to forget that cute baby Chocobo!

Other than that, I like Conde Petie (The most peaceful town), Daguerreo, Mt. Gagazet, Zanarkand Ruins, Chocobo Farm (FFVII Most Peaceful place), Narshe, Winhill, Madain Sari and Black Mage Village (Cool Music, my hometown, REALLY!)
I wouldn't mind living in Balamb Garden. That would be so awesome.
To live, i would choose Esthar. Seriouslly, Esthar is the perfect society. They have everything that they need(advanced technology and knowledge, a good ruler, no polution, etc), everyone seems to be happy(before the Lunar Cry), and they don't have any wars or problems, because they are protected by the invisible barrier.
But, choosing my favorite city(not to live) in all the FF series, i have to choose the city of the eternal night, Treno. I don't know why, but i just like the feel of that city.
Esthar, Balamb, Dollet (after the SeeD thingy), Ulty's castle
City of the Ancients
and lots of places in FFX soooooooo many (mostly for music)

Baaj Temple
Macalania Woods(it's so purdy)

Calm Lands (with a chocobo, takes to long to walk :P)
