An EoFF thread.
An.
"An."
In all cases, if you use the term EoFF before the word "thread" and after you use an indefinite article, it must always take "an" because EoFF begins with a vowel, the first letter starts with a vowel sound, and said out loud as either letters or its acronym, it still takes the "e" sound. Unabbreviated, it's "Eyes," another word that begins with a vowel/vowel sound.
EoFF most definitely starts with an E. So "AN". :)
A thead at EoFF =D?
But you yourself said an Eyes on final Fantasy thread, so an EoFF thread would be the same.
I love it when I see an EoFF thread with a multi-option poll.
"That one thread, you know?"
It's "an", but I clicked on the "a" option, because paying attention to what you're doing is overrated.
"An".
I say EoFF as each individual letter. E-O-F-F. So it's "An EoFF thread."
OOC: I could care less.
Yeah, right. It's definitely an. :rolleyes2
I messed up this thread big time. :(
Could a Mod/Administrator change EoFF to FF in the polls? For some reason I typed EoFF instead of FF in the poll. Or even better could you close/delete this thread and I'll make another thread like it just not so messed up.
I'll fix the poll. The rest of you jerkwads stop being jerkwads.
Okay, I'll take away all the votes and everyone can vote again! Bwahaha.
Well, technically, we can't ALL vote again, because it seems according to the vB I have already voted. I'd still use "an" because I don't EVER say Final Fantasy out loud in real life. That would just be silly.
it's not letting me vote;.; FOOOOOOOOOOOOOA
Evastio, the point of a/an isn't to make grammatical sense, it's to help the English language flow better, so despite what the letters stand for, you should always make that liason action occur.
I change my vote! I change my vote! :(
I never really thought of it o.o that was the first time it came up since i joined =P and i dont know what do put for those options
~IT'S WACK!
For Final Fantasy, it's "a". I think it sounds better with an "a" anyway. xD Now it's actually a good thing that I misvoted the first time.
That's wrong. It's the sound, not the letter or what it stands for. "A Final Fantasy thread," but "an FF thread."Quote:
Personally I voted for "a FF" because FF is a acronym of Final Fantasy. I apply the a/an to what the acronym stands for, not the acronym itself.
An FF thread.
i think it should be "an FF" and not "a FF."
my reasoning.
1. first. saying "a FF" sounds wierd and "an FF." doesnt.
2. although "an" is only suppose to be used before vowels, "F" is pronounced "eff". and e is a vowel so thats why i think it should be "an FF".
Yep, as mentioned earlier, "Eyes on Final Fantasy" is a pretty bad example since it starts with a vowel either way. However, I always put AN in front of all abbreviations. I can't think of an exception.
Its all based on sound, you dont say an Europe *insert thing here* and thats becuase of the sound of the Eu sounding like a y.
I'd talk about the content of the thread, so I'd say neither. For example...
"You know, that EoFF thread that states Ken is a ponce."
Well, according to English pronounciation rules:
"an"
...because saying "a ef-ef thread" feels very, very stiff. :D
it depends on the starting sound.
An eff eff thread.
An Eee oh eff eff thread.
I'm an english major.
