Best Love Story

Now, drawing on my own experience in the FF series, I rank Zidane/Garnet as the best love story because each of them had plots independent of that love story. It was not the immediate "zomg I love you!" of Aeris/Cloud or Tifa/Cloud or Yuna/Tidus. The fact is that both of them had to grow before they could love one another, venturing apart and discovering themselves. Rinoa only ever existed in FFVIII to be Squall's love and to be in that story. She had no other purpose until the horrible plot twist of her being a sorceress. Aeris spent most of her screentime falling over and flirting with Cloud and Tifa was the same, but kept it hidden.

Zidane's and Garnet's romance was perfection.

Pretty much. But I'd rank Cloud/Aerith/Tifa second. I don't think Cloud's relationship (s) were anything like 'zomg i love you!1one' like Squall/Rinoa or Tida/Yuna. His relationship with Aerith actually grew from cute flirting and Tifa was his 'childhood friend', so it isn't like either of them just began making out in a glittering ethereal pond like somebody else.

it's fine for us to debate which FF romance was the best but I think FF fans need to stop throwing hate at other titles so they can justify liking another one. It just adds negativity to the board community and the series in general.

I like VIII's the best because it was probably what drove the story. It took Rinoa to change Squall's introvertedness and at the same time, alot of different things were revealed in the plot for that purpose.

FFIX's that game's story was SO underrated and the love story intertwined perfectly.

VIII's love story Fanboys/girls piss me off! The love story didn't add together right, one moment he didn't care about her, the next moment he's all like "I WILL SAVE YOU!" then BOOM! On the Ragnork he don't care again!

i agree. i mean, its normal for a girl to fall in love with a cool SEED or a SOLDIER. but for a clumsy happy guy like zidane to fall in love with a serious princess...now thats a good love story. and plus, i like the idea of a low class thief falling in love with a high class princess. cant get any better. really shows that opposites attract.

cloud and sephy...i dont know if i would like to laugh or puke...

zidane and dagger.thief and princess.fugitive and royalty.talk about opposites.and the fact that they were explicitly shown to end up with each other only makes it nicer.that's probably what cloud and tifa was missing.

I would say Squall and Rinoa's love story. It just tugged at my heart strings and was so sweet. Tidus and Yuna are a close second.

Well...Zidane and Garnet i agree...so is Squall and Rinoa...and Tidus and Yuna isn't bad either...and Cloud and Aerith is a little lame...Cloud and Sephiroth...damn lame...Cloud and Tifa...is nice although the plot of how they like each other is not inserted in the game...Tidus 1st eye already tell us he liked yuna...so..that explains...thier plot

The true friendship style love story of FFIX was my favorite of the FF love stories. It wasn't over the top, IMHO, and it wasn't all hugging and kissing and cheesy moments, and I really liked it how Zidane and Garnet kept supporting each other at hard times.

id have to say FF8. the characters are interesting and believeable and i just think the love story works extremely well in FF8 and has some truly romantic scenes.

FFVII was interesting with how you could alter the results by making different choices and FF9's was sort of funny and very good but i prefer FF8s.

Ah...right. The son of one random goofy guy's second love meets up with the daughter of his first love and they bitch at each other because that girl was with his rival which adds more cheap drama. Said girl is brainless and shallow. Guy is stoic and off-standish from reaching out to girl. Then girl falls down and all the emotional barriers of guy vanish and he LOVES HER!!!!!!

Very believable. I think that happened yesterday to a guy I know. Even the part where he goes into space.

ff8 love story sucked. rinoa and squall is so overrated. how the hell does squall just all of a sudden have this intense love for rinoa. its not even slowly gradually growing into a love. it was one minute, squall is emo and thinks rinoa is annoying. the next minute he has this huge desire to be with her. the game was really fun...but the love story was just dumb.

ff9 love story was great. i was happy to finally see some cocky attitude main character. whoever said ff8 was more believeable, your wrong. it is more believeable to see a cocky, flirtatious guy like zidane go for a girl than a emo dude like squall going from "i hate life" into "omg...rinoa is my life"

People change after awhile. I didnt get on with my ex very well at first, but then we hung out more and got to know each other. I think Squall had feelings for Rinoa the whole time, but was so stubborn, he refused to accept his feelings for her or allow anyone else to see them.

I believe thats why he acted so cold towards her. He didnt want people getting close in case he lost them again.

When I played the game, I thought Squall was developing feelings for Rinoa all the way throughout the game. He showed Rinoa a bit of interest on Disc 1, he was warming up to the idea of being with her and with his friends on Disc 2, he became a hopeless romantic on Disc 3 and he stopped saying "Whatever" on Disc 4 (not to mention he smiled and kissed her). :p

I agree that Final Fantasy IX's romance was the best but i also think tidus and yuna was a really good love storyy especially casue the sad ending between them.another under rated love story is cecil and rosa for its time it was a pretty good love story.

FF7's the scene at the end of dic 2 was lovely, and made me wish I had played with Tifa more, and unlike 8 Cloud's personality and love developed well and not shakily.

FFX by far is the most romantic.
I choose 10 because i never really played and understood IX because i didn't like it and to be honest with you I thought that FFVIII didn't have a good love story. Squall and Rinoa's romance was sorta awkward to me.

I mean 10 is so romantic and adorable. Tidus and Yuna didn't love each other for looks or whatever. They had a much deeper connection. The spring scene makes their love story so much more romantic and even though the ending is sad, its bittersweet in a way. (SPOILER)Tidus knew that in order to keep Yuna alive they were going to have to kill Yu Yevon and that meant that he was going to die too. He wanted Yuna to live so much because he truly loved her so he sacrificed himelf for her. How is that not the most romantic sweetest thing ever :bigsmile: ?

yea i do agree, ff10 was a really good love story. and as biased to ff9 as i am, i will say ff10 slightly beats ff9 in the whole love story...but i still like ff9 love story better

So, Tidus and Yuna made out in some water. Some guy is making out with some girl on some bench somehwere right now. Physical contact in a certain locale does not determine romance. It's atmosphere. The atmosphere of The Spring scene is all horrid. She's crying, they were babbling, now he's embraced her and she's gone from sobbing to lustful passion for his man-ness. Tidus, displaying pimpitude hitherto unsuspected, knows how to treat a woman with his mouth. In some areas, anyway. So, they kiss and then...what? Nothing? Wow. It came from nowhere, goes nowhere and ends nowhere. It was...pointless.

I didn't say the game was romantic meerly because of the makeout scene. If you really get deep into the story of the game you will understand why it is the most romantic. I think my post explains it but if you want a better explanation i'll give you one :rolleyes3

I also liked the FFVII scene at the end of Disc 2 a lot. While the game didn't focus too much on a love story, it still had some really beautiful scenes between Cloud and Tifa, and some between Cloud and Aeris. The ones that I remember the most, in addition to that conversation at the end of Disc 2, are Cloud and Tifa's date sequence and the scene where (SPOILER)Tifa helps Cloud find himself in the Lifestream.

id have to say zidane/garnet was good but yuna/tidus was the best. i mean after all he grinded down a metal rope to break up her wedding as bullets shot around him. so did everyone else but they seemed like they were mostly there just for the ride haha.

as for ffviii I dont think that it was that bad of a love story. she was there originally for the whole train thing at timber and then from there squall promnised to protect her and her whole reason for sticking around was because of her feelings for squall so not to bad of a love story.

I totally agree with you on this Lynx. Tidus and Yuna's love story is just beautiful in my eyes. I mean would a man that wasn't in love with her just slide down on metal ropes while being shot at to rescue her from that so-called wedding? I mean he wanted to do everything in his power to save her from dying. If you really do go deep into the story, the further you get the more you can see and even feel their love for each other. Though I believe Yuna showed interest in Tidus before he did. At first he just wanted to go home but when he realized his feelings for Yuna, he became subjected to her. Just my own thoughts ^_^
