Reading the rules is always a good start. Also keep an eye on what the staff don't like, and even if you don't agree with they're complaints, change it.
Yeah, reading the FAQ is a good idea, since it tells you things like "reviving old threads is bad!" And when you see someone do it, you can just use the warn button. Easy-peasy.
