Mozart

This thread exists to serve two purposes. It can be used primarily as a general discussion thread about Mozart. However, I also have a question. I bought this the other day, and it arrived today. I'm unfamiliar with the majority of Mozarts works (Although not for long) and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. I'm not certain where to start. Like everyone else I'm familiar with Mozarts really famous stuff, like Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, a few of his symphonies (40 and 41, for the most part) and Requiem. Basically I just want to know what you think I should listen to first.

Anyhow, Discuss Mozart, answer my question, or be off with you! :mad2:

Requiem is my favourite. Dies Irae! You'll be howling it for days.

I don't listen to much Mozart, but my favorite is Symphony No. 25 in G Minor.

Mozart < Bach

Bach wrote more cello stuff. I like Mozart just not as much as Bach.

Don Giovanni is pretty good. if you are into his late works the Clarinet quintet is good.

I like Bach better, too. I also ordered the complete collection of Bachs works as well. It hasn't come yet, though.

I remember seeing Don Giovanni with my dad when I was like, thirteen. I thought 'this gay lol!!1'. I didn't even know Mozart had written it until about a year ago. I'm not a big fan of Opera, but I'll definetly listen to his Operas at least once. Who knows it may probably will change my mind.

I saw Don Giovanni last year. I was hungry.

I don't really know much about classical music, but I do have a decent-sized collection which I listen to fairly often.

I'm a big fan of Mozart's piano concertos. They're my favorite "casual listening" classical works and what I most often pop into the player. They're perfect for me because I don't know enough about music to appreciate the genius or art of the masterpieces, but I do know what sounds good to me and what fits my general lifestyle (IOW, I can listen to them while I'm doing something else vs. symphonies, which I feel obligated to actually sit down and concentrate on).

I have listened to most of his later symphonies though, and would say that I like no. 41 the best with no. 35 close behind.

I like a good range of clasical. But Antonio Vivaldi & Nicolo [can't be arsed with accent] Paganini are my faves.

Mozart did Rex Tremendae? Its on the Father Ted.

There are several great songs by W. A. Mozart, though I don't have many of them at the moment. Symphony #40 is great, "A little night music" too, the Marriage of Figaro is pretty good and what I remember of Don Giovanni was good too. Requiem is a great piece of work by Mozart, and some parts of it are even quite scary.

For those of you who haven't heard his 'Paris' Symphony, (31 in D Major) you need to check it out. It's brilliant and bright and really colorful. After hearing it I've decided that it's my favorite Mozart symphony.
