I'm glad the graphics weren't kerfunkled up. I always worried about that.

In 1994, Final Fantasy VI was released on the Super Famicon. A dramatic story was developed with a sculpted group of characters who were all tied firmly into the plot.

It's profound gameplay and dramatic scenarios are invaluable, and this Super Famicom release set a record when over 2,500,000 copies were sold.

Presentation
In the original work, characters learned spells by equipping magicite (lit: magic stones), and were able to summon through the "Magicite System." Each character was able to use a job, and players were able to freely switch characters in and out of their parties for battles.

Also, the game featured "Side Attack" and "Pincer" battles with characters or enemies along both sides of the screen. Furthermore, FF6 offered graphics surpassing anything else seen on the Super Famicom at the time, inlaid minigames to be found everywhere, progressively achieved and displayed events, and a battle system which brought forth various capture techniques by combining characters. Presenting the whole new face of the most popular game of its series, "Final Fantasy VI!"

I EAGERLY anticipate this. :hyper:

My only hope is that they don't rework the "memory" option for your controller in the options. FFVI is the only game that remembers your battle command between battles, and I always like that I don't have to renavigate the menu to case Ultima again. I hope they don't change that.

It's unfortunate how much data is lost by scaling the resolution down to that of the GBA screen. It's not a huge deal in the field, but prettymuch all of FFVI's battle backgrounds look relatively bland without that top third of the screen. Just look at the shots from the Orthros battle: the cliffs surrounding the river have been completely cropped out, leaving you with just the raft and the water.

O crap, true...I didn't realize it at a first glance.
Well, that means there's still something left that makes the old SNES version worth playing.
Also, I think that the SNES's sound quality is still overall better than that of the GBA, right?
Anyway, from what I've seen so far, the in-game scripts look exactly the same.

New Job availability? ftw?

I hope those last two character slots get filled, or redone to be gone. Banon and some other dude, ftw. I see the face portraits are simply reworked, which is kinda a dissapointment, from what I can see of Locke's portrait. Kefka's face portrait...hmm, he never had a portrait in the original (Hacking him into your party resulted in him with a Terra portrait)

I like the idea that the dungeon is basically a second Phoenix Cave/Kefka's Tower type of dungeon, I loved being able to use all those characters at once (those poor two that got left behind)

I also hope that Umaro/Gogo will now be able to use Espers to increase their stats, it always annoyed me to no end that they could not.

m also very curious as to how the "3-D" ish world map will be portrayed while on a chocobo or airship, will it be improved greatly, or removed entirely? Also, those ugly Serpent Trench scenes, and the dreadful railway scene (It gave me a headache :()

I doubt it would be removed, as the GBA's capabilities is a little bit better than SNES. I would hope the sound is as good as it was in FFIVA. That's awesome that Gilgamesh and Leviathan are in it, it would be real cool to see extra characters, too.

The only thing I don't like about the GBA FF's is being that the monsters are the size of a thumbtack, and the print extremely small, it really kills my eyes when playin DoS or IVA. I think I'll stick to my PSX version, maybe I'll get this in a year or two when it's rediculously cheap.

Yes, it's highly superior. GBA synth sounds like nails on a chalkboard unless some serious effort is applied, and even then, it pales in comparison to that of the SNES.

It's great to finally see some concrete info with screens on this one, as this is one of my most anticipated games of the known future. The addition of new Espers is cool and all...but I honestly doubt there will be new spells to go along with them, so it's a little bit superfluous. They'll probably accompany Zoneseek and Golem in the auction house, or possibly be acquired in the new dungeon. The monster arena doesn't sound too appealing, but I guess we'll see.

Equipping some espers have leveling up bonuses. It's optional but recommended

I only pray that the new "Job Class" isn't Squall (there is a FFVI sprite of him already) Not that I hate Squall it's just I don't like the thought of another Final Fantasy character guest starring in other mainstream Final Fantasy games.

The sprite of Squall was only in the FF Anthology loading screen (along with Cloud, Sephiroth, and an Onion Swordsman).

It would be silly to think they'd do such a thing to this port.

Not that its true or anything, but this crap about new characters is kinda annoying me (no offense meant) its just, Yes, it is a big deal that there MIGHT be a cameo or that your gonna be able to get leo, but... Ppl have been obsesing about getting leo and possibities for new characters, just like ppl have about getting aerith back in ff7... btw, i personnaly dont think that this is going to be anything new.
Because we all know that FF6 is basically 3d, JUST. so, the graphics wont change much, they'll just port it to the gb.

Well, that would make much more sense and be alot better than choosing Squall of all people, then.

Just out of curiousity...where is all this stuff coming from about there being a new character anyway? I mean, I guess it's neat to wish for, but none of the other ports have gotten a new playable character (well, unless you count the SoR in FFIIDoS), so why is it so speculated for this one?

You know, I would liek for some way to control Desperation Attacks a bit more. More alla FF VIII. If your characters HP is in critical, there's this -> When you point on attack and then yo ucan choose to use the Limit Break. But of course, no aura spells in VI please. ;)
I just would like that better. I never saw a Desperation Attack, I didn't even know they existed until after I played VI.

I just would like that better. I never saw a Desperation Attack, I didn't even know they existed until after I played VI.

Controlled desperation attacks, why? They are far too rare to rely on anyway.
If you want them to appear more often, then I don't really agree to that either. It's not like FF6 is hard, after all.

I'm looking forwards to the new content, but as with all other Advance versions, it will probably have poorer audio quality, which is a shame in a game with as good music as FF6 has.

Yeah, reviving Leo seems like a bit much. But I guess it would stupid for them to put out the exact same game they've released twice already.

I'd probably get Leo, just to have him. But losing Phoenix would suck. I think Starlet teaches some of the same spells, but not as fast.

Once, when I rented FF3 for the SNES, there was a save file already on it and for some reason Terra could use "Shock". I know now that it was the work of a game genie, and that explains why it was Terra. Because you have to start a new game. And it sucks because Shock covered up the second command, which at the time was still supposed to be Magic, I think. Is Magic ever her second command? I know she doesn't get Morph right off the bat, but is Magic still third, even before you get Morph?

It's nice to see they took the trouble to scale up and redraw Gilgamesh's FFV sprite so it doesn't look terribly out of place. Unfortunately, despite the effort that went into FFVA's music, the GBA synth here sounds pretty dismal.

Reviving Leo and recruiting Ghastra are just all kinds of sacrilege. It just goes to show that the original versions of the 16-bit games are still the definitive ones.

It's a palette-swap of Onion. As you may know, the Japanese like to use "dash" to mean "new and improved."

In Woolsey's translation, Onion was called Pipsqueak, and Onion Dash was called Tomb Thumb.

And where did Geshtal come from??? Wasnt he dead too??? I dont know, but if you are actually able to bring Leo back, you should get an item of super value, but not play as him.

Anyway, I'd be disappointed about adding Kefka and Leo as PCs. But no more disappointed than I was when I discovered that you could fight Zeromus with Edward, Yang and Cid, if you wanted to.

Initially, I was the biggest complaining guy about the changes made to the "Advance" version of these games. I figured they compromised the awesomeness of the games by changing them. It's the old saying "If it's not broke, don't fix it.", and I thought FF4 and FF6 were well made as it was, and not in need of "fixing".

But now, I look at it differently. I love Final Fantasy VI. It's my favorite entry in the series. And I have it on SNES (2 copies, actually). I also have Final Fantasy Anthology for the PS1, and it's prettymuch the same as the SNES version, as far as content goes. I mean, the load times are sickening, but other than that, it's the same game.

So if I want to play the awesomeness that is FF6, I can do that whenever I want. I've played it many times over, and I'm sure I'll play it many more before I die while playing Final Fantasy Tactics. And if a guy who doesn't own FF Anthology or FF3SNES, they can probably get their hands on it, without much trouble, since Anthology was made a greatest hits. And with the Virtual Console for the Wii, I'd be willing to bet that FF3 for the SNES will be available soon, if it isn't already.

I really don't another release of the exact same game that I already own on several platforms. So it's kinda neat that they're adding some stuff to it. I may change my mind when I play it, but for now, it's cool to get a new spiced-up FF6 with new stuff that I've never done before.

The Emperor's death was kind of a big deal, too. It was the turning point where Kefka stopped playing the role of the lapdog, stole the power of the gods for himself, and went on to, you know, destroy the world.

I am somewhat disappoint with the new battles. They went by far too quickly for my liking and I would like to see an extremely difficult battle that requires strategy in it. I mean, come on. Let's get a guy with 700,000 HP or something up in the game. Something that will take awhile or something.

Albeit those videos were probably sped up a certain degree, but come on. Longer and harder battles please.

Meh, KaiserDragon looks like a bit of a wuss in that battle, despite the fact that he obviously has substantially more HP than Kefka. And agreed on the Lightbringer spam, but at least they're not spamming Genji+Offering Ultima Weapon/Lightbringer.

edit: wait, he just killed Biggs, might not be as much of a pushover as I thought.

edit 2: yeah, Fallen Angel spam. Always thought it was lame that Kefka used that only once, because it was the only attack that could have made that game remotely challenging.

The new sprite is pretty classy. Takes me back to FFI and FFII, when these things could actually be called remakes and not just lazy ports.

And I have got to say that it's cool that they decided to make the big optional super-boss for the port a boss that was cut from the original version of the game. Disregarding the downgraded audiovisuals and the unnecessary fluff like new Espers, it's as if a missing piece of the game has been restored.

Have to agree with that, and now I'm really hoping they'll rerelease Holy Sword Legend 2 at some point as well, just to see what they would've done with all the portions of that game that didn't get finished in time. (And, of course, Holy Sword Legend 3 deserves an American/European release in the worst possible way)

EDIT: Though I heard people complaining as well. The scene were Locke meets Celes has been changed quite a bit. Disappointing, I find it. Hoep they change it for teh US and EU version. After all, XII got an added scene as well that was censored in the Japanese version. Further complaints are that the music has been butchered and that stuff.

I'd guess so. I've never hacked anyone into my party before in FFVI, but none of them are in the normal game, and not in the Advance version (read one of my previous posts for why the rumor is debunked).

As far as I know, the battle data, lines of text and sprite of the Czar Dragon are found in the original game data, but for some reason it has been left out of the game. It can be hacked back in the gameplay, I believe. I'm sure Kishi knows whether I'm correct or not.

Dude, I seriously just teared up in saddness. WHAT DID THEY DO TO THE MUSIC?! It sounds almost like they took a normal WinXP synth and put midi's through it and put it on the GBA.

Each day appart of me is dying because they didn't screw with the others -this- bad. This is just wrong, so so so wrong. I don't even know if I want to play it now, I can't handle change, and a common concept is don't try to change a good thing. :( *goes back off to cry in the corner*

Then I can't wait for it. But giving a brief look at the Japanese lines, isn't what the Kaiser Dragon says the same unused text that can be dumped from the SNES Japanese ROM? I cannot tell, since I've been waiting for those files for ages now.

I just don't like the fact that the music makes me feel like I'm listening to midi's. I don't like her synth voice, they changed it to the second synth voice (there's 2 voice patches the new one being the second)

Then that makes me wonder why they never did Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana for the GBA, their music would have been smashed to bits. :(

OHHHH NOOOOO. They used the square synth for the song in Zozo. It's more square-y then it used to be.

The synthesized voices sound better on the Gameboy Advance. And the Aria de Mezzo Carataire didn't lose nearly as much sound quality as the battle theme or the boss theme, among a handful of other songs. After listening to the soundtrack, I'm happy that they didn't ruin every song, though it seems odd that they'd put so much effort into FFV Advance's music and not really care about FFVI Advance's. :/

It's because the FFVI fanboys will go ballistic when they hear the FFVI music no matter what, so it's not really a problem. FFV's needs to stand out, because it's more game oriented and battle mechanics than plot, in my opinion.

having always lived in europe, i'd never even heard of final fantasy until VII came out.

the only time i've ever played 6 was on an emulator, and the opera scene was cool but her voice sounded weird. so i doubt i'll be disappointed by this version. i'm hoping kefka's laugh is cool!
