I was on a website (I'm not going to say which one) and someone seems to have posted a torrent of the American version of Final Fantasy XII. I don't have a modded PS2 so I can't download it, but they seem pretty insistant that it is, in fact, the real deal.
I'm pissed that Square has had the completed English version sitting there for two smurfing months so I won't care if this is true D:

I kinda wanna download it but its mean to rip them off like that. Still i cant believe somone would do that! though it was just a matter of time...

Power to piracy. It's not like everyone who plans on buying FFXII has the power to play an iso version or a burnt copy, so it won't be that much of a damper.

I just checked back. There was one guy who said it was fake because he couldn't get it to work, then he said he fixed it and it was working fine. Then several other people also tried it and said it's real.
i just went to solops2.. apparently they claim it's teh BETA version right now and somehow had leaked.

Actually, since we're all talking about the leak, I've looked it up on the net and it seems that it comes from our all time favourite Gamespot(tm of course). They don't say how it happened, but one of their leading reviewer, Greg something (the guy who did the video review for Oblivion, Thief III, etc.).
Anyhow, it's not a beta, but a full version sent out to Gamespot for reviewing purposes. How it appeared as a Torrent, nobody knowns or wants anybody to know (most probably somebody just making a copy for themselves and their friends, who in return made a copy for the WWW).

Yeah, the leaks were real actual English versions of the game. Most of them have been taken off as of now due to the fact that Square Enix is planning on taking legal action once they find the originater of this act. GamesAreFun.com had an article up yesterday about the leak.
As for the game having been sitting around for 2 months, almsot every game is like that. Maybe not quite that long, but I know Oblivion was boxed up and ready to go at least a month before it's release and ship date. It's just how it goes. Many places, FFXII is just sitting in the back of a factory, waiting to be shipping out in 25 days...

haha nah, I've already pre-ordered and fully paid off for my copy of FFXII the Collector's edition, so I'll just sit back, kick up my feet, and wait patiently. I mean come on, we've waited 5 full years since the release of the last REAL Final Fantasy game with FFX being released in 2001, I think we can hold off another 25 days for this gem of a game. I'd rather play the game I've waited for, for so long, the legit way, and know that it's MY game. I paid for it.

I'd say it's a bluff. If companies like SquareEnix actually had the power to remove files from P2P networks, piracy simply wouldn't exist in the mass it can be observed at the moment. The whole point of P2P is that shutting down a single server doesn't do a thing to the whole, leaving the users cloaked and the files still available.Quote:

Squeenix did get a cease and desist over the homebrewed Chrono Trigger remake project. They've already started taking legal action on the leak, and on the hosts of the file according to 1up.
I just had a look, there are a great many torrent trackers up for FFXII at the moment. If Squeenix are doing anything, it's either not yet in motion, or it's ineffective.
You see, the only thing they can do ist busting the person who actually "stole" the copy. The very basis of P2P will not allow them to simply cut the line. It's physically impossible, unless they can bust every single user, that is 15% of modern state population.Quote:

It is actually very good. Everything feels smooth, the dialogue, the voice acting, the character movements, the gameplay. The battling is a bit odd at first but you get used to it. I am constantly reminded of star wars, not just by the way things look, but the roles of the characters and overall theme etc, and yet, its very unique.Quote:

FFXII has a summoning system, yes.
Been a lurker on here but I just wanted to say I have been playing it and I think I am around 22 hours in and it's easily the best FF I have ever played (and I have played them all). The story is much more adult themed then any other FF and is very engrossing. It's actually pretty tough as well and I do a lot of leveling up on the side to try and make it easier for myself. The license board and the gambit systems are equally amazing and may be my favorite of the series. I think probably my favorite thing is the return to full equipment I didn't like 7,8,10 in that they had limited equipment you could equip I like being able to have weapon, off-hand/shield, helmet, armor, accessory. The summoning is cool but I find I don't use it very much and I usually just stick to straight up attacking because I haven't found any black/arcane magic in a while and most of what I have is weak, white and green magic is more plentiful as of now.
If anyone has any other questions I can probably answer them and by tomorrow I will probably be 28-30 hours into the game.
I've heard the characters don't get a ton of development and that they barely even interact with each other after the beginning, but I'm hoping that's balookey. How is that? Do you they talk with each other a lot, and are they decently developed so far? I mean, I'm not asking to know their favorite ice cream, I just want to know if it's all handled pretty well.

yea it is real, i have downloaded it off of bitcomet and all you do is extract the files which creates an iso. file and then using dvd decryptor you burn it onto preferably dvd-r disc at either 2-4x speed. and then you need a mod-chip or something like swap magic to boot it up on your ps2 it does work i have it.
sucks for me since i don't have a dvd burner or have my ps2 modded. oh well, i'd prefer the official version anyway.

yes its amazing i love the new battle sytem. the story is also great (i dont want to say any spoilers so lol) and it runs like a charm theres nothign wrong with the downloaded version. works great

It's not like it's going to make a difference if the game is ripped 4 weeks before it's released, compared to the day after it's released. In the end, those who download it will mostly be those who never was going to buy it anyway, or those who want it so bad that they can't wait for the release date, but still buys it when it gets out. I'm going to download it once I get my PS2 modded. That means in a few weeks time.
When Squenix finds out who did this, will they be in deep doo-doo?
Do you think Squenix will think twice before giving out pre-release copies? Reviewers are full of crap anyway.

Yeah, the battle system is much more flowing and exactly like FF11 but with other people controlling them.
This game you, have to level up more frequently than any FF game. Though the temptation of just fleeing through all areas is probably in people's minds, i strongly reccomend you beat down a lot or you will struggle. The areas, like FFX are big areas to walk across but FFXII does that on a much greater scale, it wouldn actually take you forever to walk around Ivalice.
I downloaded the leak when I saw it, I've been anxious to play the game for ages now and didn't see any harm in it. I've already pre-ordered the Collectors Edition and the Standard edition.
So far I'm loving the battle system and the story line. I don't really like the whole license system, having to buy magicks + teckniks is annoying. I like the summoning and quickening commands, they're pretty cool!
I resverd my copy yesterday.....this is going to be the SLOWEST 3 weeks of my life!!!! :(
Meh, who cares about morality? Charging 40-60 bucks for a game you'll beat over a weekend(not the case with FF games) isn't terribly moral either. If I really wanted a game and it just came out, I definitely would get a bit of P2P software to do the job. However, if it costs less then 30 bucks, preferably around 20, I'll definitely consider it being a worthwhile investment.
Lets look at EA for example. You pay 40 dollars for one of their XBOX games. Two years later they shutdown the servers and you can no longer play it in multiplayer, while they didn't state anywhere that the game was sold with limited multiplayer in the first place. In a way, this is robbing the user.
Anyhow, I'm sure that a whole lot of you will disagree with me here, but really morality and buying products from big enterprises like EA or SE really shouldn't be anywhere close to each other. For those who'll advocate for SE now, remember that in FFXI you're only allowed to have one charater and have to pay monthly fees(long live GuildWars). Do you really believe that this other character you can purchase will cost 9 USD of database memory for SE? Please...
That's wrong anyway, you can have more than one character. Server bandwidth and maintenance is what costs. The initial cost of buying the servers costs a ton of money too, and they're constantly adding new content to the game. And on top of this, let's not forget the cost of a developing a game is huge aswell. When I had work experience at a computer company a few years ago, they told me the average life of a hard disk in a server is about 3 years. FFXI has a lot of servers, something like 20 or more I think, and they probably all have more than just one harddisk each. High-performance harddisks used in servers are also more expensive than what's in personal computers, The game is over 4 years old now, so going by statistics, they've already had to replace most of the harddisks in their servers already. Harddisks aren't the only devices that break and need maintenance either, but I'm not going to bother listing it all.
But indeed, they probably charge more than it actually costs to run it. if they didn't, why should they offer the service at all? Square Enix is a company, companies make money.
Guildwars doesn't have a monthly fee because almost everything outside of cities doesn't pass through their servers. It's all instances running on the PCs of the players. That can't be done with games like WoW and FFXI.
Yeah, you def won't be beating this game in just one weekend. The storyline is suppose to be even far more lengthy then FFX's and if that doesn't mean much to you or you beat FFX fairly quick, Square-Enix put an est time of completion on the game of over 100 hours. I'm sure your $50-60 will be well spent and worth it.
And anyone who downloaded and is playing this leaked version...that's pretty sad.
2 weeks away now. Cool stuff. Can't wait.

you guys are arguing over people who burned the leaked version are sad. Come on, it's not like they aren't gonna buy it later or something.
I agree with Grinenshire about the big bucks issue. Have you guys realized that a every single game whether new or old are at the most $39.99? A badly rated shooter game from SE is most definitely NOT worth $50.00 especially when you can *literally* finish it over the weekends. Of course NFL and sports games are also $49.99...:greenie: I feel ripped off... seriously.:eep: talk about morality. there just isn't any morality when dealing with big companies.

Most shooter games don't take very long to complete, as do most non-RPG games.
And whether a deal is good or not is up to the individual; some people enjoy different types of games and may feel their money was well spent.
Furthermore, games are produced with the intention of making money anyway.

I'll put it this way. I get pleasure from buying a good game for a reasonable price, 25 USD or less. I don't care if anybody else downloads that game or not. It's simply not my business and I don’t see these people as “sad”, “lacking morale” or whatsoever. If the company goes bankrupt, it's usually not because of the piracy.
Now talking about MMORPGs monthly fees. I agree that they have to take care of the maintenance, but considering all the bandwidth and the exchange of the components and even the development, it's never worth 50 bucks plus 10 USD monthly.
It'd be giving out way more money for games, i.e. buying new ones instead of replaying them or asking friends for their discs over the weekend, if they'd cost less.
I do not advocate piracy over the P2P networks, but as a user, I'm not pleased with the current game market policy either. If you want more development in the gaming industry, buying the game will surely help, but you can also go to a chemist and buy fifty boxes of vitamin C hoping that this will develop the cure for cancer faster. Forget about the morality.
PS: By the way, don't worry, it's not going to change soon. EA is monopolising the game market, so feel assured, we're doomed.

Why do so many of you continue to think you have the right to exact revenge on people who downloaded the game illegally it's none of your business what someone else does and I doubt any of you work for square-enix or are personally affected by it in anyway whatsoever.

1st - Saying that somebody who buys computer games is a "better person" is the silliest statement that was ever made over these boards, that also includes FEs theories. If the person cannot afford buying the game, is he a bad person? Or is he a bad person if he sends those 40 bucks to some starving kid in Africa? In the very worst case, that money will go to saving some other company from going bankrupt. If you consider buying a game a personal achievement enough to be "a better person", do you also think that SE will get more money from that person if he never played the game in the first place? Overlook your terminology.
2nd - Please, do not start with "if everybody did that" story. I could just as well say that "if everybody" gave money to charities, there'd be no hunger in Africa, or "if everybody" was honest, there'd be no crime. That statement is the worst thing one can possibly say to defend his position, since nobody is like everybody else.
3rd - And last but not least, do not place the FF fans in St Maria's shoes. If somebody downloads the game, it's his personal business. He takes the risks; he'll the one to cope with possible conciqueces. Stealing from multinational companies is hardly a grand sin. If you buy the game, great, if you download it, fine, it's your own business and there's barely any point in preaching morale where there is none.
To finalise, I did not and will not download the game, simply because I do not have a PS2.:)
PS: If you look at the very start of the post, you'll find out that it was simple question of whether the rumours are true or false. I do not believe that the author intended to run a hate post against pirates.

FF RULES! BUY THE GAME!
1st - Saying that somebody who buys computer games is a "better person" is the silliest statement that was ever made over these boards, that also includes FEs theories. If the person cannot afford buying the game, is he a bad person? Or is he a bad person if he sends those 40 bucks to some starving kid in Africa? In the very worst case, that money will go to saving some other company from going bankrupt. If you consider buying a game a personal achievement enough to be "a better person", do you also think that SE will get more money from that person if he never played the game in the first place? Overlook your terminology.
2nd - Please, do not start with "if everybody did that" story. I could just as well say that "if everybody" gave money to charities, there'd be no hunger in Africa, or "if everybody" was honest, there'd be no crime. That statement is the worst thing one can possibly say to defend his position, since nobody is like everybody else.
3rd - And last but not least, do not place the FF fans in St Maria's shoes. If somebody downloads the game, it's his personal business. He takes the risks; he'll the one to cope with possible conciqueces. Stealing from multinational companies is hardly a grand sin. If you buy the game, great, if you download it, fine, it's your own business and there's barely any point in preaching morale where there is none.
To finalise, I did not and will not download the game, simply because I do not have a PS2.:)
PS: If you look at the very start of the post, you'll find out that it was simple question of whether the rumours are true or false. I do not believe that the author intended to run a hate post against pirates.

Ive noticed my characters all are rather samey, not a problem but the License board dosent give each character much individuality. My only critism so far. So far this game is shaping to be one of my all time favourite FF's, its just that good.

im still able to follow the story though, its a great game, very addictive, i think im past halfway or not far from the end. The gambits seem weird at first but in time they are very usefull, like if you get poisoned you can set it so one of your allies uses antidote which saves you the time of choosing it.
I will still definatley get the original because the cutscenes wont jump then and i like to have the original box and that. I only downloaded it because i didnt want to wait until march ( i live in the UK )
Even though I have the leaked copy, i might buy the original. When its in bargin bins etc, as I like to have a full collection, box and everything.

Though i'll say tne main thing is when opening thing on the License board, try to given an even balance to both side of the license board and always look for the better weapon, things will go much much easier then. The license board is not that hard, LP's are like collecting mana and power spheres on FFX, then you use them to open the slots.
okay. i was hoping the story would be quite complex like FFT and involving lots of political decisions that could be said to be morally ambiguous... i hope it is more like this than plain GOOD v EVIL.

There are parts where it makes you think which way is the story going to go, like i said the story is simple to follow but it does keep you guessing on what's going happen next, keeping it a good dramatic story and making it a really good game.Quote:
