Cool. I've never donw a solo AND lowest level.
I've tried a solo Thief (no class change), but I never beat it. No patience for Kraken, and almost no patience for the marsh cave, frankly.
But I'll try it again one of these days, and then my Final Fantsy 1 Agenda will finally be completed, until I try soloing w/o class change on nes at low levels.
I guess DoS is fairly easier, but not if you're having trouble. Obviously Harm 3 isn't working hard enough for you, eh? (Or can you only use Harm 2 at your level?)
Edie: You know what? That's it. I'm going to go ahead and do it. Solo Thief, no class change, FF1 NES, the Ultimate challenge of patience and will, except for the impossible solo BB (because 999 HP won't save you from 1000 damage)
Solo thief no class change on the nes version. I was actually the first one to do that here at this forum and prove it. I also did a solo thief no class change on the psx version. But that was a lot easier than the nes one.
The normal game on the NES was hard enough for me. xD
I'm at lv. 13, so yeah. I'm still at Diara(Harm2). Also, I keep getting paralyzed and/or put to sleep.Quote:

That's funny. I only tore through DoS once. I don't remember anything remotely giving me trouble, and sleep would have been the least of my worries.
I figured you'd be complaining about being Nuked.
Aren't there items that can prevent a sleep spell? Like a ProRing or something? Or does that only defend against RUB spells? I'm pretty the Ribbon only gives you elemental damage resistance...
I am at the beginning of the game. I have not fought a single random encounter, so my level is quite low. The strongest piece of armor I have is the silver armlet. Ribbons and protect rings are inacessible.
Under normal circumstances, this wouldn't be hard at all. However, this is far from normal.

For some insane reason, I assumed you were referring to the ToF Lich.
You can't beat the 1st encounter?
Dude, just get Harm3, it's 1 more level, and then try to cut corners elsewhere (That's what I'd do anyway, but I'm a slacker. You can persevere.)

I am now officially tackling the solo Thief challenge (again...)
Lv 4. 20 tries. 19 uneventful failures. 2 Critical hits. Garland is finally defeated.
(Actually, I beat him once, and had 6 HP with no heals. I ran into a Spider on the 3 steps to the princess and was killed)
I finally beat Lich. :D Took a couple dozen tries, though. And I refuse to cheat. It takes the fun out of it.
How do you cheat?
You mean by levelling? Or is there some FF1 DoS cheat?
I consider leveling on a "lowest possible level" challenge to be cheating. And getting the Lv.5 spells would have required six more levels.
You need to be at level 19 for lv 5 magic?

But alright. You got Lich anyway, so it's all good.
They altered the leveling on this version. The origional level cap was 50, wasn't it?

hey wanna know how much difference between ne of the worst and one of the best parties in this game is. I beat Lich in one round w/ lvl 15 Fi/Rm/Th/Wm

lich attacks ADOS(Wm)- 43 damage
KAHN(Rm) uses Fast on MAX(Fi)
LEE(Th) attacks lich- 3 hits! 63 dmg Critcal
ADOS uses HRM3 on lich- 212 dmg
MAX attacks lich- 5 hits! 146 dmg

Beating Lich at lv 15 with a Fasted Knight and Harm 3 is about as impressive as a cold hamburger on a half rat eaten bun.
You should've been at lv 11-13 anyway.
Tell me about how you beat Kary at lv. 15 with that party. And, just for kicks, don't use the Ice Sword.
Don't cry. Your Thief can run. You can get to Kary from there at lv. 15. I guarantee it.

i wasnt tryin to be all that impressive i just thought it was cool cuz i never have done it before. usually lich is a pain in my ass.
i have this thing where i have to kill anything that moves. im gonna be at higher levels cuz of this and it helps me have more gold for the expensive spells soon to come.
Yeah. Especially because once you get the airship, there's, like, no monsters at all who give big cash. And as far as treasure chests with upwards of 10000 gold per dungeon... Bfff. None.
Seriously, killing Lich in one round... Easy. You could have used Fire3 instead of fast and got the same results. Except that the Thief wouldn't have had to attack after

Harm 175
Fire 175
Fighter 106
And it's done. I've never spent over 2 battles on Lich. 1 is about right, especially after lv 13.
And I guarantee you that killing everything that moves between now and Kary won't net you more than 15000, if that, and then you can make that much money by selling the Flame Armor or Ice Armor, whichever you prefer, because the Ninja can only wear one or the other, and if you're at lv. 15, your Fighter BETTER have the Steel Armor by now, or else you're just wasting money.

i just thought is was cool cuz it has never happened to me even in a playthrough when i was overleveled to like 18/19 cuz my lil bro would play it and do nothin but fight monsters. Figured i could share it and not be given a bunch of grief. Boy was i wrong

I killed him in one attack with my Fighter.

I took your suggestion and tried to beat Kary at 15 without the ice sword. it wasnt happenin- about 13 tries if i counted right
then i did use my ice sword and she was done in like four rounds. only tried twice she was super easy the second time. idk this game is weird like that sometimes.

And you're up to 23?

This was just entering the Chaos shrine, so I haven't done the fiends. (And they give more than one exp.- at least in this version they do.) I ran from the Ice cave and Cube encounters, and you forgot the Dracozombie in the Citadel of Trials.Quote:

Remember, the level caps are higher on this version. Also, DoS requires less experience to level than the NES. So I'm at a much higher level than I'd be at doing the same challenge on the NES.Quote:
