I'm using Basch.
There was a point in the game where I'd go soloing through missions and training with just Basch on the battle field(He was then like 10 levels ahead of everyone which was like 30)
Balthier. Forever. Although if I were to start training my inactive party, Basch would be the first to get the honor.
I'm using Basch but I'm regretting not using Balthier instead. I've been playing with his Quickenings and he's even cool and badass during those. Heads up!

I use both of them equally, however in terms of character, Balthier wins.
Definitely Balthier. Balthier is A Team. Basch is B.
i try to keep them all at the same levels but my favorite would have to be balthier

I use Basch in my party, because I like having a tank character, and Basch fits that role perfectly.
However, Balthier is just awesome. I kind of regret not using him, but I'll have that for next time.
Basch mostly, but Balthear's in my main 3 as well. I lvoe both of their character personalities, but the leadership and experience of Basch and his past is what draws me more towards him.

And whoever said guns aren't very useful is wrong, since they ignore defense :p
What's with all the gun hate. I know their attack power is lower, but with the ignore defense bit they end up doing the same as the rest. And they're slower than bows, but they have 100% accuracy.
Anyway, I like them both, but Balthier is definitely the winner of this situation.
Yeah true, they are helpful in certain situation, but it's not my preference for a Final Fantasy weapon I guess. I'm a swords/katanas/daggers kinda guy.
FFVII: DoC urked me a bit because all I could use was the gun, but hey, it was only one game, so I survived, and enjoyed it. :D

my main party is Ashe(with a sword/sheild) Vaan(with either a spear or a Greatsword) and then Penelo(with a pole or a ninja sword)
and Vaan and penelo use all magick and Ashe knows White Magick and all Augments while the other 2 are just heading into the augments
although there for a while i was training my other 3 people and Baltheir with a Spear and Basch with Sword and Sheild was pretty amazing...i just find fran's stats to be very low
I haven't used Balthier since I had to, I don't think. And I'm not really sure why. I much prefer him as a character. At some point I started using Vaan, Fran, and Basch, and then I would've had to level Balthier up to include him in my party and have him be worthwhile, and I just didn't feel like doing that. If I thought there was any reason using one or the other in my party would somehow affect their presence in the cutscenes, I'd drop Basch and use Balthier in a second.
I've been using Basch and not using Balthier. Even though Balthier is my favorite character in the story so far. I don't know why it ended up like that.
In my playthrough, Basch and Balthier had the most HP in the party. I used both characters.
i personally like basch better. my main party is vaan with a sword and shield, ashe with ninja swords, and basch with axes.
I prefer basch to balthier just because i don't like balthier's fighting style. Basch seemed cooler.
Balthier, but i still use Bashe a little bit...he's kinda my first choice in backup. I think balthier is just cooler in personality so i use him more.
I've been leveling up everyone pretty equally, but Basch and Balthier are in my 'core' group. Along with Fran. I love both of them, for different reasons. :)

Balthier is a little fruity if you ask me. Cool character, but Basch just just beats him out in overall awesomeness.
I love Balthier's character but I use Basch as tank so in my game, Balthier (along with Fran and Penelo) played second fiddle to Ashe, Vaan, and Basch.
If I ever start a new game I'll use my second fiddle characters as my main crew that time around (I'd feel bad neglecting Ashe tho--I just adore her). xD
Vaan, Basch and Baltier are my high HP, high hitters party. I use the girls for healing and fliers since my Fran has a killer bow :D
I really don't use either one of them. My main and highest hp party are Vaan, Ashe, and Penelo and they really kick butt at it. I am trying to keep everyone all on the same level, but as to which one ( Basch or Balthier ) is my favorite...........um.......... I really can't make up my mind about which one is but I do like them both.
I use both in my main party but, I use Balthier when I level up the other characters, so he is a few levels higher then Basch.
Everyone is mostly equal at everything in this game so you should definitely go with whatever characters you like the most for storyline reasons. (On of the things I do like about this game)
I am partial to Ashe, Balthier and Basch. I never really got attached to Fran, and I despise Vaan and Penello.
And for the reference Balthier > Basch for all times in the game except *ending spoiler* (SPOILER) at the end where he cuts his hair, shaves and becomes a judge
Balthier, Ashe, and Vaan are my main party. Basch is the replacement if one of the three gets K.Oed.

Basch and Balthier are both on dps.
Basch is first string, Balthier second.
I totally have no reason for why it ended up that way.
Well Vaan is the only character you KNOW it will be always on your party. All the others leave and come back at random in the game, at least up till the Sandsea.
So Vaan I keep a bit stronger than the rest, which I am going for balance mostly. Although I did make my girls more healer / magick types and the boys the high HP / attack strength type. Stereotyping I guess...
The Sandea is only a few hours into the game. In reality, the party becomes stable rather quickly for this type of game.Quote:

Balthier use Super Volley Bullet while Basch use Kamehameha. Balthier send Tsunami while Basch use Kungfu. Balthier use Meteor while Basch play with his sword.
I like both of their Quickening. I like Basch better because it's the only Quickening I can mimic. :(
I keep everyone at equal levels, but I like Basch more in combat. Give him an axe/hammer and haste him and he will become one of the most efficient damage machines in the game.
Yes, Haste + Berserk + Basch with an Axe = Win.
Balthier is just the better eye candy, and he looks especially good fighting with a pole or such. I couldn't have experienced the last seventy hours of gameplay without him in my party. <3

In terms of character, I think Balthier is awesome. But I use them both almost equally in battle. I use Vaan less than either of them.
Basch FTW, but i like Balth.'s witiness. It was suggested in Gamefaqs.com that you should only have 3 main people. I agree because it's a hassle and waste to train all other members or even a 4th. Btw should only 1 character have Shield/Sword cuz i have 2? :/

I train everybody equally, but I too have "first string" and "second string".
Personally I prefer Balthier in terms of personality, he's probably my favorite character of the bunch. As I wanted to make a team that consistently had one ranged-weapon user and two frontliners, I made first string Vaan, Balthier, and Penelo (when I first started, I figured Penelo would have a larger role than she does since she's linked to Vaan more). Once Vaan gains a level, Basch takes over as party lead (and the character I control, which will always be either Vaan or Basch), Fran is next replacing Balthier, and finally Ashe replacing Penelo.
Just kinda turned out that way. I do like all the characters though.
Hate Basch.

Pirates>Knights
Basch is great for getting through a tough area where there's a bunch of mobs attacking together. But he's not at all versatile.
Balthier, however, is the go-to guy for tough boss fights. Vaan is my hardhitter/tank so Basch is just redundant. Balthier's guns/xbows have the added status effects that make him much more valuable.
I do keep both of them leveled though.
Outside of battle, there's no comparison. Balthier ^_^
I use Balthier more often than Basch for 2 reasons.
1.) I find that Balthier's guns, crossbows, and magick are more useful than Basch's raw strength. Besides, Ashe, whom I like better, can be just as effective as Basch in terms of dealing damage.
2.) Balthier is a pirate made of raw, untainted PWNAGE, PIMPAGE, and SEXY, and Basch is alot more boring...And cliché. I mean really...HE WAS FRAMED BY HIS EVIL TWIN BROTHER! Where's the originality in that? Though, Balthier is pretty cliché too.
In conclusion, Balthier is superior to Basch.

You will actually found out that Basch have better strength and magicks power than Balthier. Vaan, Balthier and Basch have better strength than Ashe, they deal more damage. Basch have the best strength, he deal more damage than Ashe unless if you have your Ashe to be 10 levels higher than Basch.Quote:

As the only logical way to decide who my party members are is by an impromptu "Who's da hottest?" contest, Balthier never leaves the spot of party leader on my game. Other than him I rotate everyone, but my Basch is neglected a little.
Balthier and Basch are both appealing in completely different ways...as was pointed out well a few posts up. I like Balthier b/c he is a sexy smartass who seems to be in it for the adventure, but I think Basch is admirable as the classically hot loyal knight who is in this because his life has no meaning otherwise.
I don't know about either one having intrinsic strengths over the other, but just for who they are as characters I use Balthier way more.
I used to go for pirate types but somehow Baltier rubs me the wrong way. Heaven knows why, maybe his haughty way and looks (I'm "allergic" to those as of recently) Or maybe after seeing Jack Sparrow pirates are not as manly for me... Or maybe cause he is already "taken". Hard to put my finger on it.
Bottom line, Basch rocks my socks :D

I use Balthier , Fran, and Vaan the most. They are all level 30 and Ashe, Basch, and Penelo are all levels 13-15. Kind of sad.
i <3 balthier and i think he's pretty awesome in several ways. i love anime thieves. they're so cool. ^^ basch is strong, but his personality is just so so.

Balthier has good character and a fair bit of good in him, despite being a pirate. Liked the scene in Nalbina in the pit....
But Basch is old, wise, and a Knight.... sorry Balthier.
I'm trying to keep everyone's levels fairly even, but I definitely use Basch more than Balthier. My main party usually consists of Vaan, Ashe, and Basch. Not only that, but Basch is MUCH sexier than Balthier!
