Final fantasy is fine and you should know why it's named that.
I honestly think that the name has supported the game's success. Look at "Endless Saga". That game's done, and it had a name that implied never being done.
Maybe "Endless Fantasy" or "Unlimited Fantasy".
It was originally called Final Fantasy because the company was struggling and they assumed it was going to become their last game, thus the name, Final Fantasy....
11 Sequals later it does look silly.

Certainly, Final Fantasy would be an awesome name for that one game, and then if they renamed all the rest to sucess, it would be another option.
But if you could rename it, Call it Crystal Chronicles from the start, for example. ???

Final Fantasy is a fine title, mainly because for all except X-2, the game is the final adventure in their world, hence, no tie ins with other stories, and each world is distinct and original unto themselves, besides the trademark cid, airships, moogles, etc.
Although, with all the spin off like DOC, it seems time to kick the name :S
I think they should've left "Final Fantasy VII" out of the title. It's a fun game, but has no place with that in the name.Quote:

I dont have a problem with it being named that, but I'd prefer it'd be in Japanese, ya know, since it comes from Japan.
Although the name is the same, in Japan they probably associate different feelings with it than we do in America, and it's not supposed to mean "the last fantasy" it is the last game a man would make before his retirement, and it was a fantasy.

Well, it probably would have been something like Fantasy Quest or Crystal Quest. Or maybe something with "Legend" in the title. I mean, FFI came along pretty early on as far as gaming goes, so they would likely have still chosen a broad, more abstract-sounding title.
my friend vinnie told me years ago the guy who invented final fantasy called it that beacuse he was told it would be his final game if it didnt turn out right.

They named it because Square was going bank-rupt and the Producer said his FINAL game would be a FANTASY.
If you were a business, would you change the name that made you famous? Would you alienate your fans with a different name when the original name "final fantasy" is something they're used to? It's a name that sells a good brand of games, I wouldnt change it for anyone, espesially the poeple who continually make these kind of threads.
I would not change it all becuase it is a Final fantasy in ench storyline
