How much do you trust people on Forums?

As you all know, Devil Man has been banned for "his" joke final warnings on Friday. Alot of people have found the banning to be unfair and the warnings to be pretty funny. What you dont know are these 3 things.

1: "His" banning is being actively discussed on 3 different Forums and everyone is siding with "him" and laughing at how seriously the Staff took the matter.

2: Devil Man is not a second account, but a 5th account. "His" first account was originally set up in 2004 and is one "he" still uses from time to time. "His" second account was banned in 2005 but accounts 3, 4 and 6 are still being used today for pretty bad purposes (links to porn hidden in edited messages and user notes).

And 3. Something none of you actually know.

Devil Man is actually a girl, not a guy. The girl is well known on several other Forums and pretty notorious, but popular. She does this often.

So the topic is straight-forward enough. How much do you trust your other Forum members to be telling the truth on who they really are? I have little faith. Years of bitter internet life have hardened me to the ways of the world wide web.

I don't trust people in general very much. There are very people in general, online or offline, that I trust well.

I take everything with a grain of salt, and that's doubly true on the internet.

It is hard to trust any pixels on a screen, but I think most people are just as trustworthy online as they are offline. :cat:

Trust people? I don't trust many people. I can sit here and say I don't lie, which I don't, but why should you believe me. I mean I obviously am some mad crazy dude who thinks he will rule the world some day... mark my words... I will!

You know, that's so crazy it might actually be true. When "he" made the thread about "Devil Man's Lesbian Problem" I wondered a bit if it was a veil for a girl to get the situation off her chest. And the almost parodied sketch of sexism in Devil Man's posts coupled with the way he would talk in third person add to this possibility.

However, you could be lying or Devil Man could be pulling your leg. That's more likely than the above.

EDIT: Also, I agree with the Staff on this one. Devil Man wasn't exactly the world's best member when it comes to EoFF, and "her" pranks were somewhat not exactly appreciated by many of the forum's members, if you can consider any of them funny. If someone has a second account, they (second account) should be banned, and the first if the situation arises.

Also, no girl would EVER act like Devil Man. "Her" actions more accurately represent the twisted thinkings of an immature, twelve year old male who likes getting Fs in math, science, literature, and gym class, and is therefore, useless.

I'm not overly trusting of people online until I feel that I've gotten to know them. I don't think people online are necessarily as trustworthy as those offline. It's much easier to lie with text than in person, and having the security of anonymity makes the lie all that much easier to get away with. The consequences feel much less severe. Also, I've seen those claims from Devil Man, and I'd say that it's just as likely they're egocentric BS as they are true. I don't really care either way.

I am pretty much the same. I trust everyone, it is only when they give me reasons to doubt them that I become suspicious, whether offline or not. People can lie to you either way, the difference with online is that you cannot see their face.

That being said, I always believe in the best in people, whether or not they deserve it. Sure, it might open me up to pain, getting hurt or other problems, but that is something I realize. I would not be me, if I did not believe in people. It is simply how I am and I do not regret it.

I'm too trusting of a person, but I can safely say I do trust a few members with some life issues or secrets implicitly.

Well, I try not to put too much trust in people online or offline. But, I pretty much trust everyone. Even though I have to get to know them before I put anymore trust in then then I already have.. But even then, you still wouldn't be sure if that person is really trust worthy.

I support Devil Man's childish quest for online amusement and dream of creating a new and insane virtual identity in an effort to escape from the real world.

Because I understand these things about the internet, I don't consider "trust" in a person's identity to be remotely an issue. Of course I don't trust who any of you are.

But I trust that you are human, that you are responsive, and that at least some of you think clear, creative, interesting, intelligible thoughts, and that's what matters on the forums, whether you're a boy, girl, liar, old man, tiny child, atheist, Catholic, Commie-bastard, capitalist pig or whether you are any one or more of those but claim to be somebody completely different.

(SPOILER)Devil Man's persona was shifting all over the place near the end. He/she/it had lost the initial enthusiasm of posts that earned Ciddie nominations, and fluctuated to the point of being entirely drained of energy, like he/she was just trying to crawl out of a mud pit. That dying act, that passes as some kind of a prank, was more of a request for a mercy kill. The mods, as evil as they tend to be, showed heavenly mercy and good will towards their fellow man when they exacted their mighty pink powers.

Talking to people on a message board is like mingling with strangers. There's only so much you can learn that way. If I talk to people privately (on IMs etc.) I'd probably trust them after a while. Probably not otherwise. It doesn't take much to lie to a bunch of strangers.

I don't trust them and I don't NOT trust them. Well, I guess I trust them until they give me a reason not to.

I didn't care about Devil Man. The personality portrayed by the person, or persons, using the account was not entertaining in the least bit.

As for trusting other members of the forum, the answer is an ouright no. I talk to none of you on a regular basis and even if I did, the chances that I trusted you in any way would be very low. I trust very few of the people I actually do talk to on a regular basis.

Obviously I trued him and his family enough to go 1200 miles away from home and stay there. There's probably several others I would trust.

I've had runins with people who have served jailtime for molesting kids, people who have faked their own deaths, and all sorts, but I am trusting in general. I won't go out of my way to make it easy for a random stalker to terrorize my neighborhood, but I'm not afraid to post pictures of myself online or give my address to strangers. I let a random guy from devart call me one night because he was bored. People on the internet are usually just people. The scary rapists usually have specific targets for people that are known to be susceptible. Lol msn chat anyone?

Besides, when you live out in the middle of no where, people start thinking how much it would cost in gas just to rape an 18 year old girl. Would that be worth it?

At the end of the day, I'm also of the camp that I will trust someone until there is reason not to. Even if someone lies to me, but apologies, I can forgive them, because we all make mistakes. However, if a pattern develops or no apology is made, then that trust is hard to gain back.

I think people online are about half as trustworthy as people offline.

I pretty much start off with giving people a reaosnable amount of trust. It builds as time goes on, but if something happens that trust can going away in a heartbeat.

Eh, I trust most people, online or off. Sure, people lying about their gender isn't unheard of, but just because it attracts a ton of controversy doesn't change the fact that they're in the vast minority. People are generally honest and this carries over into their Internet usage.

For some reason I seem to trust people more on the Internet than I would in person, because the things someone can do to you online is sort of limited (unless if they show up randomly throwing pebbles at your window). But overall I'm entirely trusting online when it comes to a lot of things. I have let several EoFFers call me before and a few instances where I've given out my address.

But I've felt that when I'm with my friends hanging out, I get to be a little over protective and mother them, because a lot of my friends don't have the best judgment when it comes to meeting new people. In fact, one friend of mine in particular is attracted to the worst guys ever. But I guess I base my trust on whether or not I get the feeling that that person seems okay and usually my feelings are right on with that sort of thing.

dunno...this subject of online/offline is difficult...in my experience, people are less inclined to be truthful online...for what reason i don't know....but i could put a picture of anyone in my profile and say it was me...how would you know it wasn't?

I'm not less truthful online.

But I consider that to be a character flaw. Anybody online should be online to hide away from their true selves, not to broadcast their true selves among an entire world of strange readers who are hiding their true personas.

Martyr, your post sounds like the beginning of a college thesis or at least a darn good screenplay or novel.

Though I must admit, I do disagree with one crucial point, as I view my online and offline persona to be one and the same. I try to be the same person in both places and hope that all of it comes together as an accurate view of who I am. Obviously, I have more creative outlets offline because here I am restricted to just words, but my thoughts, opinions, ideals, etc, don't change from one place to another. Rather than try to enhance my image or heighten it, I just try to improve and build on it.

Maybe it's just me, who knows?

I only trust about 8 people that I have never met in person. Only three of them are at this messageboard.

It really depends what you mean by "trust", I mean I think there's different things, I would trust people with some stuff too easily (like telling them things maybe...) but then trusting them in ways like believing whether they tell the truth.... well who knows if any of us are telling the truth? I'd be more likely to say yeah I believe them, until I have a reason not to but I still wouldn't take most people TOO seriously.

I did, it was a fun way for him to go out. Probably the funniest and best thing he ever did, in my opinion. Also, the PMs had enough telltale signs (random caps in the middle of sentences, to name one) that I was able to notice the illegitimacy evident within them without even being able to see that the sender's name was not boldly italicized. I usually trust people pretty well, because I don't put much stock in them, to be honest. They're just people who are my friends. I've never met anyone from the internet, and if I were to I'd seek lots of identity confirmation beforehand.

At first, I don't trust people online that I meet. Until I learn about them an know them well, my lips are sealed on any personal information. However, I think most of the people here are trustworthy, and wouldn't take advantage of clueless people.

Trust is a very big issue with me. I dont trust people very easily. Ecspecially online, becos you never know if someone is lieing or not. There is only one person that I have met online (by online I mean this site and all of the others I go to) that I completely trust.
I have varying degress of trust. Like some of the people I talk to on here, they are great friends, but when it comes to meeting them in real life, I have to you stop and think "Now what if this is really some 60 yr. old man?"

I don't see why Devil Man's banning is trying to be justified. There's different levels of tollerance on different forums. This one has a good one but there are boundaries no matter how popular you are. I for one was -obscenely- sad when I thought I was going to be banned, that's not something I want to see when I first wake up and sign online.

Other than that, I trust a few people from the forum, mostly the one's I talk to more than others, meaning the people that go to #eoff and are on the forum have a slightly higher level of trust with me. With forums people can sit back and think of what they write, real time it's a toss up. :)

I was roffling at mine, after the first four seconds of "WTF-ness". I have no idea why s/he was banned for it. Especially when it was a staff prank that backfired on them! They just don't like to be one-upped.

I generally trust people. I've reason not to, but I don't like not to. But I'll weigh it up based on individuals, and what they're actually saying. I'd believe some people if they said they were going to play Carnegie Hall. I wouldn't believe others if they said they were drinking a Pepsi.

I trust people on the internet once I get to know them better. I've met people from the internet before and they've been exactly who they say they are. I just randomly remember this whole scandal at another forum I went to 6 years ago. I can't even remember the name of it. (I remember the running joke was the RPP or "Room of Painful Pleasures" where noobs were sent... and I swear Kishi was there... or maybe I just want him to be)

Anyways there were these two admins that ran it, two completely different people. One of the admins had this whole thing with a girl who frequented to board, she really liked him... and in the end the two guys were the same guy who was actually nothing like either really and was just really weird and everyone was really mad because he led a lot of people on, lied left right and center...

It is partly due to this kind of staff arrogance that she has found it necessary to 'punish' EoFF, it's members and it's staff in the way she has. If I say she is a girl, she is a girl. Let me take a wild guess at what the IP for her Devil Man account was. Could it be, by any chance, 213.48.224.2 through blueyonder and she has claimed she is from London? Yes? Well, it goes without saying that the IP is fake and she isn't in London. She is extremely skilled at disguising her true IP to make it appear as if she was from elsewhere. Why, I believe, she even told Levian this information and he made a Thread about it in the Staff Forum, correct? And this information is an open secret because she is happily announcing it on other Forums which has members that have a grudge against EoFF. I know what I am talking about Leeza.

In response to Loony BoB, I think you know my answer is no, for several reasons. The principle one being that Devil Man's friends are also friends of mine and seeing as EoFF is being constantly watched right now, I would hardly wish to make them opposed to me. I can, however, offer you some advice. The main one being that an apology would go a long way to making Devil Man happier. She has felt victimised for a long time by the way she was treated in the past, and even now, and a personal apology from several members of staff would make her a lot happier. From what she has said in her other Threads, you guys have her e-mail address from her Devil Man account so perhaps you might want to ask her any questions there?

And here is some other info that she presumably wanted relayed to you. The first is that there are between 10,000-15,000 links to porn sites or images that she's edited over the last 2 years. In some posts and usernotes there are roughly 200 links. She obviously had far too much time on her hands. And she announces the edited Posts to her friends who then come to EoFF, using it as a gateway.

The second is that you can stop doing SQL queries to find the links. She never, ever added the http:// part of the address. That would make the links too easy to find. If you are wondering what exactly her motivations for this are, then she has stated them in another Forum and I can attempt to re-address the issue myself here. I'll make a Thread, 'Internet: Serious Business'. I am actually very fascinated by what makes a girl so vindictive as to take this action.

Unless Devil Man hacked RIPE (which is basically impossible), there's really no way it can be otherwise. Now, this doesn't rule out using the IP as a proxy, but the IP itself is not fake. Samuraid, I was stating that Devil Man's true IP is hidden all the time and can't be traced. It's always diverted to another IP to make her look like she is elsewhere. Hence the reason it is very difficult to find her accounts.

It depends on the person whether I trust them or not. An now for the main topic of this thread: Devil Man. Although I thought his sending people warnings was funny, he's now turned what would have been an impressive ban, into a lame one. With all his false tales he gets NCG to post. An I'm glad Devil Man is banned for being a creeper. He claimed to me that his antics were a way to get back at the staff, an he did it in the name of LUKEJAKE17. Convinced? I wasn't. He then asked me to post this to The Staff Feedback forum:


Im making this thread because alot of people have been talking about devil Man recently an whatevers going on with that. Alot of people are unhappy an feel wierd. Some, like me, are also very angry an scared because i trusted Devil Man an gave him, or her, my address whn he asked for it. Ill deal with this on my own.

There is something you should know. From what ive heard on MSN, some people have gone to one of devil mans other forums an seen what they have been saying about EoFF. It seems to be as genuine as a liar can make it. The other thing is that she and NorthernchaosGod are friends. They sent PM's to one another on EoFF to make it look as if they 'just met' here so that they could confuse the Staff when the staff checked all his old PMs. From what ive been told, NorthernChaosGod gave Devil Man a link to his Forum in a PM so that when the staff checked the PM's it would make it look like they were both lying and the staff would think it is just a joke. It isnt. ive heard there are links to porn, bestiality and scat. They've been friends for over 2 years. This is what they do. pretend to have met on a forum just to make the staff confused. an devil mans apparently got a member of staff here to be his friend an think this is all a joke. its all a part of their tactics to screw with your heads.

I dont care much either way what you do but I do care for my friends on here. Many of them are unhappy an sad an thinkin of leaving. Its not right whats happened.


Doesn't sound like anything I'd say does it? I pointed that out to him, an he started being a whiny little bitch about it. He then started complaining about me an LUKEJAKE17, despite the fact he's been groveling to us for quite some time. He's called people here butt kissers, even though he's the biggest butt kisser the forum has most likely ever seen. I have told him that. A word of advice NorthernChaosGod, don't be Devil Man's bitch, because I'm sure he's more than willing to be yours. ;)

1. This prank I obviously missed and, out of curiousity,I'd like to know what happened either brief story or link to the thread. (pm me if you want, it doesn't really matter)

2. Trust. I used to trust everybody, online or offline, to a certain extent. I would try to be honest with them, sometimes creating white lies just to save a friendship, and I'm gullible to mostly believe what people say, as long as it's not far-fetched. Now, after trusting a few people, online and offline, they would turn thier backs and back-stab me. Now, I try not to trust as much but it sometimes can get very tough, due to the fact that it's my nature.

I trust that Shlup will hate me now and forever more.

I trust to easy for my own good, i shall never trust anyone the same again!
but that doesnt stop me trusting, i make no sense!lol!
