I've been thinking of trying out Eoff chat, but I'm not really sure how it works or what it's like. I also heard that sometimes people pretend to be other members, so I'm not really interested in it if that happens much.
What do you think of chat? Is it better or worse than the main forum? What are its advantages and disadvantages? How does it compare to the forum?

Nobody's pretended to be anyone else from what I've noticed.
I prefer #eoff to the boards, myself. If you want to frequent the chat, use mIRC as opposed to the mediocre Java client. I wouldn't compare it to EoEO because there's rarely serious discussion. It's usually Roogle and I going back and forth at each other and me abusing VampireCrono. ;D
I think chat is a better way to make friends on the forums since you can talk to them in real time about anything really. there's not much real final fantasy talk ever going on in the #eoff. Mostly crazyness.
Chat is kinda like a neopets message board; if you aren't used to it, it sweeps you away.
That, but don't expect anyone to answer you immediately. It's best to keep one window with the chat in and one to browse in.
I'm not talked to much on #eoff but it's funny to watch other people be abused :)
Chat is the poor man's forum.
Chat is great! You can have lots of fun with Eric, Roogle, Allie, and other #eoff denizens. :cat:

Yes, all the cool kids go to chat.
It's cool if you fit in with the people who've known each other for years. But for me, I always feel out of place and awkward when I go in there. Ostracized is the perfect word.

I spend way too much time in that place. It also helps for school projects, I got all my interviews done in there. xD Also, it's where I've made a few of my closests friends and am continuing to meet all sorts of awesome people.
Sometimes fun when you join into the topics there. I have been there a few times. Not yet this year, but last year during all nighters or late nights I would go on.
I frequent eoff more than here.
It's interesting to say the least.

It's a nice place, I need to talk more there though :(.
Sometimes you'll log in and no conversation your interested in will show up. Other times you'll suddenly find you've been in there chatting for hours.
EoFF chat is like watching midnight porno: cheap, disgusting, but strangely compelling and ultimately satisfying but nightmare inducing.

Er, I think I've been in three times in over five years. I find it mostly incomprehensible.

Chat is like a buffet; there's a variety of of crap to choose from but the mixture often causes gas.
I've never been. They said something like I had to download some Java which I'm not prepared to do seeing that this isn't my computer
You don't download the Java client any more than you download this web page you're reading right now.
I think that depend on the kind of server you are using, back when I had a dail up server it used to ask me to download that java thingy so I ignore it, but now I have wireless server I download nothing. correct me if I am wrong, though.
At the moment, the chat is a festoon of naughtiness.

I think i've logged onto chat about twice since my time at EoFF, and one was a conversation with boris no no about something or another. *Logs onto chat*

It's fun, depending on who's online :P I just hate it when people say stuff like

in a chatroom. It's more annoying than the annoying people they're telling to shut up.

I go into #eoff daily. It's kinda fun. #party is bloody crazy though. My room is invite only :p
#party is for the fat lonely people...

EoFF chat is fine. It has it's awkard silences and Joel rants about how much GTA blows, but other then that it's alright. Just don't go into #party whatever you do...
It used to be better.
I fell from #1 on the stat list two years ago to below the top 50 now, even though my actual time spent on #eoff hasn't changed all that much.
I break the awkward silences by dying. It, for some reason, makes people go hunting for phoenix downs. Nerds. :love:

But yes, if you really want to get into the overall EoFF community, you need to get into all fronts, and that includes chat. No matter how long you've been at EoFF, there will always be a part of it that you don't know, otherwise!
As for impersonating other people, it has been known to happen over the years, but we kick people for it when they do so it never lasts very long at all. Also, most of the people who are regulars there have their names password-protected so that also helps.
