Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I'm not enthralled by it.

...I'm gonna go cry now. That anme is stupid.
I'm assuming the title refers to the goth-rock band which Harry fronts in the book. In fact, if this doesn't turn out to be the case, I shall consider the book an abject failure.
Yeah, it's a pretty bad name. But so was The Empire Strikes Back. So long as it's a fitting conclusion to the series I'll be happy.
Eh, it's not bad. xD
So, what, the final twist in the series is Jesusdidit?
I hate it.
I'm not even a big Harry Potter fan, and I KNOW the name sucks it should be this: Harry Potter and the Cliche Subtitle
It sounds like the title of a Scooby Doo movie.
Could be better, but it could be worse.
What are the Deathly Hallows, is like a place or is it the Big BAD of the Harry Potter series, woooooo!
Also I haven't read a Harry Potter since Book 4, so if it has been said what the Deathly Hallows were, my bad.
I'm not going to judge it until I actually read the book. A lot of people thought "Half-Blood Prince" sounded stupid too, until they realized what an appropriate title it was, considering the real point of the book and how no other name could have worked.
I like it. :jess:
No, no "deathly hallows" so far. I generally think of hallows as spirits, though I suppose they can also refer to sacred or consecrated objects or even "hallowed" ground.
I'm hoping they're something like manifestations of the "personal demons" Harry faces as he delves deeper into Voldemort's mind and life looking for ways to defeat him. Like Luke being tempted by the Dark Side on his way to becoming a Jedi, perhaps Harry will have to overcome these personal tribulations as he uncovers the powers he needs to destroy Voldy for good and all. Although, I had always supposed that destroying Voldemort would be accomplished by something rather simple, like Harry making a sacrifice, a la his mother, since his courage and loyalty and love and compassion have always been his greatest strengths (far more than his relatively average magical abilities). Harry is a great friend, maybe even a great person, but it's a serious stretch to consider him a great wizard. But maybe he'll come into his own in this final book. I certainly hope so.
Or maybe "deathly hallows" are some things Voldy summoned to stop Harry from getting to him or random things guarding the horcruxes. I know! Maybe the "Deathly Hallows" breed the dementors! (JK)
Yeah, I could really care less what the title is, as long as it's good I don't really give a smurf. Plenty of great books have had stupid and/or cheesy names (Heart of Darkness anyone?).Quote:

I don't mind the name, in fact I think it's kinda nifty.
Timerk mentioned the Half-Blood Prince being a bad name, but I also thought that was a good one :jess:
Although the Goblet of Fire is still the best name.
He has a point. No matter what she calls it, its going to be massive because it is the last one. And because it's Harry Potter.Quote:

It should just be named 'Harry Potter' and nothing else. See how many fan people would be freaking because of -that- name.
This one prolly just has something to do with ... deathly hallows..
Weird..
The only thing the title is doing for me is inciting an urge to make Bleach jokes.
I guess it's okay. I don't really have a problem with it as long as it wraps up the series well enough. *shrugs*
Who gives a damn about the name?
Attack of the Clones
Hmm...I agree with most people that the title could be better but I guess I'm gonna jugde it when the book comes out so I could if the title actually fits in. But maybe in a little while, the title will grow on my and I'll like it. But as of right now...not crazy about it
Dark Tower>Harry Potter
I don't really care about names. "Order of the Pheonix" sounded like a fine title, but in the end it was the book that ruined the series for me.
Not bad, could be worst, could be better.
Wasn't where Harry's parents lived called "Goderic's Hallow" or something like that?
EDIT: Or was it Hollow? My mind is malfunctioning at the moment...
She wrote the book, she can call it what she likes. I don't even read the series and it sounds like an alright title.
my language arts teacher would definitely give that title a 50 and that's from the kindness of her heart. The name is so... unoriginal, almost lame. There's nothing mysterious about it ... sounds like a spooky ghost story title more than a series finale.
It's a Grim title, surely death is around the corner!
I've hated Harry Potter ever since our teacher read the first one to us in fourth grade. Anything with Harry Potter and the Such-and-Such in its title I will not buy. Honestly though, I've actually read only four books in my life. Redwall, Things Not Seen, Thank You For Smoking, and Othello. Even in my English classes I've never read a book for the class. I BS or cheat my way through all the test and worksheets for a B- average.
Will this book be as guarded as the former ones? I remember hearing when the last one was in-transport the truckers driving the trucks weren't allowed to leave thier trucks for fear of spoilers.
By the way, my father is a higher up guy at Scholastic and he showed my in the book where RON DIES!!!!!! [/sarcasm]
DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER
...cover...title WHATEVER!
Cheesy name, but I'm sure the book will be good.
'The Philosopher's Stone' was changed? I've only ever known it by that title.Quote:

Oh well it'll go in my to read pile anyway purely because I wanna find out if she goes for the traditional happy ending or a controversial sad one.
I'll judge the titles my style:
Philosopher's Stone: This one's good
Chamber of Secrets: second best
Prisoner of Azkaban: not the best, but still good
Goblet of Fire: WORST, the goblet only made a brief appearance and had almost nothing to do with the main storyline unlike the stone and the chamber, if it was called the Triwizard Tournament or return of Darkness/Voldemort it sounds much better.
Order of the Phoenix: My fave
Half Blood Prince: I never knew she meant Snape. I thought she meant some random new character. Surprise surprise.
Deathly hallows: Grim enough to be terrifying.
At least the title tells us how grim and violent things will be from now on. I still can't imagine who will be the last sacrifices before Harry and Voldy settle things with each other. preferably Ginny so harry will experience a temporary emotional breakdown and then make the ye olde heroic comeback after loads of thinking JK JK. :p Maybe Sirius will come back and help too, if he somehow cheated death and came out from beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries. Any idea when will it be published?
What do you mean the Goblet of Fire had nothing to with the main storyline? Without the Goblet, (SPOILER)Harry would've never been in the tourny, and would have never been transported to the graveyard, and Voldemort would have never been revived. Yeah, you're right, it's got little to do with the story.
I thought it was the other way round? That the americans had it changed from Sorcerer to philosopher becuase they were freaking out about the witchcraft thing. ZOMG, we can't say sorcerer, it might corrupt the kiddies! : pQuote:
Philosopher's Stone was changed to Sorcerer's Stone for you Amerikanskiis.
The title for the last book is just... meh. Not exactly thrilling. But, hopefully the book itself will be a good conclusion to the series. ^^ Just so long as Rowling doesn't do a cliche ending I'll be happy. No riding off into the sunset, you hear?
ive read all 6 and i really can't remember what happened in 5 and 6 first four were good
I really don't care much for the name of this book, but like other people on here, I also didn't like the name Half Blood Prince. But hey, I don't care about the name as long as the book will give us a great ending to a great series. But "Deathly Hallows"??? Deadly Hallows would sound alot better in my opinion.
America has Sorcerors Stone and Golden Compass.
When I first opened this thread it went to the second page and the first thing I read was Hsu saying Attack of the Clones. I thought, "Harry Potter and the Attack of the Clones" :confuse:
Harry Potter And The Large Rhinoceros Who Thought He Had It All would be rather more fitting.
Yes, I think it sounds sinister too. It sounds much too voilent for me. I'm going.
The name kinda gives away the whole big thing that happens (but I think the public already knew that all already :()
Meh. The name does suck, but it could easily be much worse. And, really, I don't care what she calls it, so long as it's good. I don't have issues with any of the other six names.
I feel indifferent to the name. It's just a name.
A Hallow is a saint. Halloween stems from the word All-Hallows-Eve.
So it seems to refer to some sort of anti-holy group :p
The word deathly is what bothered me about the title. Its too blunt. I guess Deathly was used instead of Deadly because it implies that death encircles the group or whatever the hallows are. Deadly would just mean they kill people...
But thruthly I really dont care about the title, but for the content of the book.
Breaking news: he release date is 21st July!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay :D
Source?
It's on the official site.
w00t!
It's released the day before I go on holiday! Perhaps I could pick it up at the airport... xD
She should've made it the 31st instead. :p
But that would've been on a weekday
On my birthday! Yay!
And none of you know anything about the book, so how can you say the name is ill-fitting.
where does anyone say that?
Well if you shouldn't judge a book by its cover then maybe you shouldn't judge it by its title either.
Of course people will buy the book because of the story.
And accdg. to Rowling on Wikipedia, there will be MORE deaths! I'm starting to make predictions.
I SMELL CONSPIRACIES
OH REALLY?! I ALMOST CAN'T BELIEVE IT, BUT BECAUSE YOU TYPED IT IN SUCH LARGE LETTERS, I GUESS I HAVE NO CHOICE!
In other Harry Potter news, he got sexy:
http://banners.broadwayworld.com/equ...col3_hires.jpg
I have seen that picture or the one with him and the white stallion at least once every single day this week.
I wish I were that attractive.
Anyone else think Snape is NOT a bad guy?
*Spoilers abound*
I was always struck by Dumbledore's implicit trust in Snape despite any amazing amount of evidence to the contrary. There must be something very deep indeed that made Dumbledore trust Snape so much that perhaps we've yet to uncover.
As for Snape killing Dumbledore, I think Dumbledore knew his fate before he even left with Harry. He was probably aware that he would most likely have to die. When he returned it would be no big deal for Malfoy to kill him and no big deal for Snape to have sworn to help Malfoy. Dumbledore didn't say anything like "Please don't kill me Snape." He was particularly vague. It was more as though he was begging Snape to do what they'd already discussed, which was kill him in his suffering upon returning. He keeps begging to be taken specifically to Snape. We assume it's for the cure, though I don't think that's the case.
As I recall, Snape gritted his teeth or something similar. I don't think this was a sign of rage and happiness in killing Dumbledore. I think it was a sign of how difficult it was for him to actually do it.
Snape obviously bears some bitterness toward Harry's father and takes that out on Harry. However, remember that Snape did protect Harry at the Quiddich match in the first book. I think Snape is written to seem absolutely evil and to make us hate him so much that the revelation will actually blow us away. I would not be entirely suprised if Snape died protecting Harry in the end.
yeah, same here. *sighs*
I hope (SPOILER)he's not a bad guy.
J. K. Rowling stated that two (I think, I could be wrong) characters die. If she kills Lupin I might have to murder her.
Oh no, Harry turned into a gay cowboy :whimper:
That picture is wierd, cause he is really hairy
And I like the name Deathly hallows, cause didnt Harry say he was going to go home, to were he used to live with his parents. Which was called Hollow somethin. So theres already afew deaths there and Harry will probably kill some death-eaters there, so....its a great name.
Heh-heh. "Hairy Potter".
He could definitely be hotter. Ron is THE SEX for me :P
hehehehahahhaha thats beyond funniness
lol daniel radcliffe is hawtsex!!!!1!!!11!!!1
SPOILER ALERT:
Harry Potter dies :(
Seriously though, I expect Ron to die.
Somebody is going to set Harry up the bomb. And then make some time.
(SPOILER)Everyone but Ron dies
Ron is soo goofy but he makes up for it in "other" ways
About those spoilers, I just hope this is just one intentional spoof.
Could have read them accidentally.
I hope they're not true...
For some reason, i get the feeling that it is made up.
My mum reckons Harry is a diversion and ron is really the one who will kill voldemort
Voldemort being Harry's father would make for a great plot twist, I'm sure you'd agree.
I do agree, because as it is now, that seems quite impossible. Impossible things happening are the best kind of plot twists. I am liking the title, because it sets a dark enough mood for the book, and it may sound cliche, but I hope it will be relevant to the story and mood setting. I don't care that much about the title, though, I am by far the most interested in what becomes of Snape. (SPOILER)Every point that has been made for him being on either side could easily mean he is on the opposite side. He is completely unpredictable, and I hope he is secretly working against both Dumbledore and Voldemort, and moving toward his own goal, which would have been totally hidden for the first six books.
Speaking of unpredictables, JK Rowling is a mistress when it comes to that. The ending events in all books had us expecting the unexpected.
Like in Sorcerer's Stone wherein (SPOILER)Quirell found the Mirror of Erised.
In Chamber of Secrets when it was actually (SPOILER)Ginny who opened it.
In Prisoner of Azkaban when we found out that Sirius Black was actually (SPOILER)Harry's godfather.
Goblet of Fire reveals it was (SPOILER)Crouch Jr. who sent the Dark Mark and disguised as Mad-Eye Moody.
In Order of the Phoenix, (SPOILER)Sirius dies and the Wizarding community finally knows about Voldemort.
The Half-Blood Prince turned out to be (SPOILER)Severus Snape.
With all those heart attacks, I'm bound to expect MORE from Deathly Hallows.
I think that the Deathly Hallows is going to end with Harry waking up in his little cupboard as an 11 year old boy saying "Wow...what a dream!"
The End
But seriously, I hope it doesnt end like that...J.K Rowling would be getting more than letterbombs if she did.
And it's quite impossible to hold the events of seven years into one night's dream.
Well, not counting that one in the movie Jumanji where the leading character dreamt that he stayed in the jungle for 26 years. :D
Oh, and a little Harry Potter trivia:
Ginny's real name is Ginevra.
Ron's full name is Ronald Billius Weasley.
Hermione's is Hermione Jane Granger.
But we all know about Harry James Potter. :D
Another theory i heard is that Dumbledore and Snape swapped using a polyjuice potion. I hope that's true.
Ehhh, I really really doubt it. For one thing this would involve Dumbledore saying that he (SPOILER)is the half-blood prince, attacking Harry, and killing Snape while still working with him... Also, Dumbledores portrait is in his old office now.
If it turns out to be a dream I would cry
that is crappy
at least have voldermort live to be shot by vernon dursley
