You're CRAZY!
you're crazy!!! :)
it seems that all my characters were knights =P
Vaan = Thief/weak knight, little red mage on magic
Basch = Paladin/Knight, small white magic
Balthier = hammers, shields, guns, little magic
Fran = Bow, moderate on all magics
Ashe = sorta Knight, also black magic user tho.. with a little white
Penelo = heavy white magic user, dagger and shield.. love the mage masher in some fights.
I'm too fond of shield block to give anyone a 2h... except fran.
and by the way you're crazy.
By the end of the game all of the characters are going to be clones of each other, but for the sake of the thread, i'll share my amazing character setup.
Character Name / Weapons / Armor / Class
-Vaan / Daggers, One-Handed Swords, Hammers & Axes / Light Armor / Thief
-Balthier / Guns, Bows, Crossbows, Poles, One-Handed Swords / Mystic & Light Armor / Red Mage (Mostly Black Magic, but uses all varieties of magick)
-Fran / Guns, Bows, Crossbows, Maces, Katanas / Mystic Armor / Red Mage (Mostly White Magick, but uses all varieties of magick)
-Basch / One-Handed Swords, Greatswords, Axes & Hammers, Spears / Heavy Armor / Knight
-Ashe / One-Handed Swords, Greatswords, Axes & Hammers, Spears / Heavy & Light Armor / Paladin (Uses White & Time Magicks)
-Penelo / Daggers, One-Handed Swords, Greatswords, Maces, Poles/ Light Armor / Thief Mage (Uses Technicks often and some magick)
You're a lunatic.
you are crazy, but we love you :)
I made Vaan a thief/treasure hunter/squire , Balthier an archer/possible elf warrior with blades/bombthrower, Basch a samurai/ex-monk, Ashe is a lancer, Penelo is a ninja-mage and Fran is a bombthrower/gets blades :) For long range Ashe and Basch get guns, Vaan gets handbombs and Penelo gets a crossbow :)
Actually, I find that having any more than three jobs for your characters can totally offset the balance of the party. Quite literally, I have three characters set with certain gambits, and then the other ones are just absolute clones of those three. I chose two characters who had about the same stats and made them the closest I could come to three types of jobs that I deemed necessary. Vann and Basch are my Warrior/Knight/All-around smacker. Balthier and Fran are my ranged attackers, and Penelo and Ashe are like my white mages. Then for the Black Magic, I just split it three ways so that everyone wields two or three elemental spells. Also, all of my buffs (protect, shell, etc.) are spread out between the three characters.
But, basically, Vann and Basch are geared for attacking, Fran and Balthier are geared for casting some support magic and attacking flying creatures, and Ashe and Penelo are there to heal my characters. Anything that is not a part of my gambit system is generally used so infrequently that I don't really mind having to manually select it. So, basically, once one character of a particular job class is one level higher than the other one, I switch the other one in so that everyone levels up evenly and so that changing character right in the middle of a battle will disrupt the flow of my party as minimally as possible. And, just as a side note... YOU'RE CRAZY!!
We're both crazy!;)
Vaan--> Ninja swords/Thief
Ashe--> Rods/White mage
Penelo--> Guns/Time,Green Mage
Basch--> Swords/Warrior
Fran--> Spears/Black Mage
Balthier--> Bows/ Warrior,Arcane magic
I don't like clones so i made their own "jobs".It's actually entertainig!
You are as crazy as I am :D
Vaan - Paladin / thief
Basch - Paladin
Fran - Red mage / archer
Ashe - whore
Penelo - thief
Balthier - doofus

Job assignments for my folks are kinda simple:
Vaan = Assassinator = Masumune
Balthier = Destroyer = Ultima Blade or Fomalhaut
Fran = Executioner = Ragnarok or Sagittarius
Basch = Terminator = Excalibur
Ashe = Slayer = Save the queen or Holy Rod
Penelo = Eradicator = Stoneblade
Actually I just changed my weaponry around. Since Basch has the highest strength and he holds the strongest weapon giving only 9999 hits constantly, I decided to give the Excaliber to Fran who has a lower strength rating. She still gets 9999 hits with excaliber.
At least Basch gets an average up to 6999 with the Ragnarok. Fran used to be getting about 1000hp damage lower in hits with Ragnarok. Usually 5000++. And I think Basch looks better with Ragnarok since it matches his shirt color.
I wish the weapons could make more than 9999 damage coz I would have just left things the way they are.
Crazy is what you are...
You have clearly gone mad.
I also gave each of my characters specific jobs:
all of the are practicioners of the theory of Aku Soku Zan.
hey any tips on getting past the ice mt to get the sword cant find a way across the gap
its like were you meet al-cid that place
Mt. Bur-Omisace ?
Aye, after that you are supposed to go to the Stillshrine of Mirian. You need to go back to the Paramina Rift and take a different route: South instead of West.

I just hit lvl 20 with one character, so take what i say with a grain of salt...
Vaan uses big, two handed weapons like spears, katanas, and ninja swords. I killed the werewolves in the Giza Plains early on and picked up a kotetsu that's been working very nicely. Yay quickening chains! He's set with some basic black and white magics for range and healing, as well. Add in some light armor, and he's one fast, deadly little bugger.
Basch and Penelo are identically equipped with sword, shield, and heavy armor. Again, just basic black and white magic here.
Fran sticks with bows and Balthier with guns. Fran uses a lot of staus effect magic, while Balthier is the thief/tecknician. Great for enemies that are across a divide or for fliers...
Ashe is the only primary mage. Heavy use of both black and white magic, with a healthy dose of Arcane on the side. Mystic armor, and she uses a good sturdy rod. Bonus MP ++.
Generally, Vaan goes in first, hits once hard, then runs away (not fleeing, just moving out of the enemies' range). He leads the enemy back into the heavy hitters, who beat on it repeatedly while it still chases Vaan. Makes most small fights easy enough. For Bosses and Marks, i've put a lot of LP into getting all 3 quickenings for each character. Haven't come across a beasty yet that can survive a 16 hit quickening chain... :D
By the way, my location in the game? I just got to the Raithwall Tome and killed Garuda (Yay quickening chains ++).
I've done a LOT of leveling up and LP farming...
ITT: Everyone is nucking futs.
I refrained from giving specific jobs to everyone. My party was full of jack-of-all-trades.
