I noticed as of now, there are only two members with numbers in their names on the top list:

Jesse1, Aemilius Blight, Aerio, chrisguapo69, Citizen Bleys, Cruise Control, darkchrono, DarkLadyNyara, Dragon Mage, Dragoonknight, Elite Lord Sigma, Faris, Goldenboco+, Hambone, Kirobaito, Lauz, LunarWeaver, Outer Heaven, Raven Nox, Raytien, Roogle, Ryushikaze, Scarmiglione, XandrewX

The topic is, do you think numbers in usernames make it look untidy or impersonal?

I'm not too fond of them (hence the pending username change request).

Numbers ain't bad, you two are just the only ones with numbers at the moment. :D

I think that a user name containing numbers has a higher chance of looking untidy than a user name without numbers. However, I also believe that numbers can—if used strategically—be used to augment the name (i.e. nik0tine.)

These days my feelings are restricted to the user name, and I do not let them affect how (I) feel about the person. I admit to there being instances in the past where I have thought lowly of those with numbers in their names, but those foul ways have since been changed.

It seems a little unoriginal but other than that, I don't really care.

Yay! Rubah agrees. I knew it was true. Like I said, I'm really biased about numbers in usernames. I usually don't even pay attention to the people who have them in their usernames. (Jesse1 being one of the exceptions) Man I'm shallow. :(

I think that any member with numbers should consider the fine art of changing their numbers into the word "NUMBERS" always caps lock and then maybe I will like them more but they won't like me because I don't have the "NUMBERS" always caps lock in my name but I can still admire them from afar and maybe watch them post on Eyes On Final Fantasy Forums.

I don't like having numbers in my name on forums or most places I go. But occasionally on stuff like e-mail or AIM or other things where there are already like 13490518 million names taken... yeah I'll go with the numbers. (normally I just stick "21" at the end of "Pikestaff"... why 21? Dunno. It just seemed like a good number.)

No offense meant, but when I see a name with numbers or one that references a popular video game/manga/anime/&c character, I generally assume immaturity.

If the numbers actually have a meaning, then it's okay. But if it's just a random string of numbers like 4 8 15 16 23 42 that mean absolutely nothing, then it looks a little n00bish.

I simply add "_20" in my name because "Peter" is ALWAYS busy on every forum. :)

I don't ever use numbers in any of my own usernames, but I don't feel one way or another about other people that do. I've met some cool people with very generic names before, so I don't think about it much.

No opinion. I never really thought about it. Why should I?

It shouldn't be allowed. Only children use numbers in their names.

(I've often wondered what people thought of my numbers. I've been using the same username since I was 13 years old, so I'm kind of iffy about dropping them. Sometimes I use rotothirteen instead. :P)

The numbers look a little neater when you capitalize the first letter of your name.

I try not to be prejudiced against people with numbers, but if it looks untidy I do sometimes. It's a habit I'm trying to break.

I could name myself P3t#rR-da-m4573r!11 and still discuss perfectly well and behave in a mature way. :)

If the number is actually part of the name, as in, having a significance and not just being randomly placed there, it's fine.

But otherwise I agree with you Jesse, it does make the name impersonal if it doesn't have a purpose. I've always preferred usernames wihout pointlessly place numbers, though it makes no difference as to the personality of the person behind the name.

All you did there was take a video-game character's name and add numbers to it to either make it original or because you couldn't think of anything else. But I've seen people with things like

as fine. Why? Because they made the name up, so it's not like they're adding the numbers so that they won't seem too unoriginal due to putting a game character as their username. But that's just my personal opinion on it. I've seen it so much now that I've begun to care a bit less. Though, unless it was a true part of the name (like The 13th Member, or something like that. Not a good example, but I can't think of much else better, except for roto13-ness), you still wouldn't catch me doing it. :p

I preferred crashNUMBERS to chaos.prophecy.crash.

One set of numbers that really bother me are years x.x

The only reason I have numbers in my name is because its my birthday(for those of you that havent figured it out) I think that bears some signifigance for me to my username. The only reason I chose link, was because that was the first character I beat a game with.

Im ok with numbers, as long as their not thrown in their to make a name look special, when its really not.

Numbers in usernames = n00b, for the most part, especially if they are of a popular character, or something. There are some names, where the numbers are very much original or have a meaning, but those are few and far in between.

Besides my current username, the only other real name I have used that are not my AIM or email, was maxis99 on Starcraft Battle.net. At the time I made it, I was ten, so give me a break. I still use it.

the only number i have ever used is 4.when i was 8.numbers just make it so...meh.unless the numbers have some sort of significance(ie:link31793) then thats cool but otherwise...have some originality please...

the 9 in my username is for a reason, it's not just tacked on there. You will never see another ljkkjlcm, so the 9 is just an added touch, because I love the number 9 for many reasons

Ha, I have numbers in my name. :p But numbers in names don't really bother me. I don't really care, actually. It's not like you can tell how that person is or acts just by the numbers that exist (or don't exist) in their user name. :D

Without numbers there would be less words to make a username from... so let them have their precious numbers.

Without numbers, we wouldn't have CrashNUMBERS and that I just couldn't live with!

Numbers don't always leave good first-impressions on me, but there's never really a difference in the person :P

Not really, in a way they give uniqueness to the username, unless it is something like "*insert anime/gaming character name**insert arbitrary number*" That being said, I realize my username is not the most creative.

As for numbers as a username, someone should use the Fibonacci Sequence as there username, or a part of it.

They could use spaces though or hyphens, it would be different at least.

When I see numbers, I have a habit of assuming newbie/n00byness.

I think numbers in usernames are silly. I generally get the impression that they are rather young and/or naive and have difficulties taking them seriously.

If you added a number because the name was taken, I'd just say you should deal with the name being taken, and find a more original name.

I don't really use numbers, unless the numbers actually mean something to me.

This thread has given me a lot to think about, not least that I need a less n00bish username.

I tend to prefer names without number in them, but once the person has shown he/she is not a childish n00b (which is fully possible with number-free usernames as well), I hardly notice it anymore.

If numbers are deliberate, then it usually looks decent.

Numbers work very rarely.

I wouldn't say that they imply noobishness.

But utilizint letters can be done just as easily or easier, and that iws where true creativity comes from. Your screen name is, after all, the thing that makes you individual among everybody else, and it must be different. So make it different.

Jess1, your name drives me nuts.

In some circumstances, like Roto13 or maybe Nik0tine, I seem to be able to accept it. But I don't like it. I don't think it helps. I think it's a mess.

Numbers make you look n00bish, especially when tacked onto the name of a character from something. Although there are times when "Psi" isn't long enough for a site I'm joining, forcing me to choose between "Psi300" or "ReloadPsi". Normally the latter, but it depends where I am.

I hate making usernames with numbers. It normally looks gross in my opinion. There have been exceptions, but not many.

If you really want to know why there's a number in my name, it's because I've used this name EVERYWHERE since I was eleven. I first used it for popmail (back when it was free) and of course Jessica was taken, so my uncle suggested Jesse1. I've used it for four years, and now I'm going to see if I can't change it to Jessweeee♪

And until you change your name to the very mature sounding Jesseweeee(I don't know how to make the note), your name will seem silly, noobish and childish because of the out of lace 1.

I don't really mind if my name seems immature, because I am immature. I try to keep from using more than one number because it looks messy :P

I don't really like them. Cause of the whole messy thing. But I don't hold it against the person either. When I say or read the person's name, I also drop the numbers. You are just Jesse to me, I'm afraid. I hope you aren't too upset.

I find numbers just bad and frightening to get in you username...because if you make a user without number and someone already has it you get numbers at the end instead of the original...ex:

chose username:look
pass:whatever

sorry that user has been chosen already..try these other users instead!:

I'm not keen on numbers in usernames, but it's not to bad when there is only 1 or 2 numbers but when it's something like "457395835" it's a bit ridiculous. :jess:

As long as the number means something like 69 is fine. It allows ppl to fantasize. :bigsmile:
