In order to keep me motivated I decided to make a thread of my sketches! Right now I'm getting into portrait drawing based on photos of people (mostly hot girls). I wanna be able to draw photorealistic portraits. Why? Because I can! Given that I practice more, that is. This is what I'm currently working on.

I got bored of it though so expect some other ones soon! Gotta fix that eye next time.
Tips and feedback are always welcome!

That looks really good. Are you working with a pen?
-
this is very detailed
what would you do with Blade Runner or Alien, I wonder?
-
kotora, draw me like one of your French girls.
-
@Proto: yes, ballpoint! I like how it gives me much better lines than my pencils do, but shading is a pain in the ass.
@Vincent: haven't seen Alien, but tried drawing a hydralisk this morning. Maybe I'll finish it in the evening.
@Sam: did a first version of you! I'll do a second later today because those always turn out better.

You could look into some hatching/cross-hatching tutorials for shading with a ballpoint pen.

hey! awesome!
anything you do in the sci-fi vein, scott or otherwise, would be epic
also, have you seen any of david lynch's work, a la twin peaks?

Did a quick sketch based on the official Tomb Raider art. Will probably work on a more detailed version tomorrow!

Nice quick sketch there of Lara. I have a suggestion. Considering you're working with pen, I suggest you should use an H pencil to sketch the outline of your subject as a guide when you start working with your pen.

I would seriously advise you to work with graphite. It gives much more fluid and vintage look to your work. Doing sketches with pens to me just makes it feel unfinished and messy. I would only use pens when doing an outline of something (like what Proto said about H pencils). Besides you can always go back and undo something with pencils and not with ink.
That said, it's clear to see you have talent. I would suggest doing more drawings of the body. Give yourself a time limit of 30 seconds and start doing quick body proportion sketches and your understanding of anatomy and where everything goes will improve. All about training the eye.
Keep up the good work.

hey is that a self-portrait? rather cool..
-
@RE: I don't like the feel of grey pencils :/ but I might pick up some graphite sticks sometime. Expect more work coming soon!
Experimenting a bit with water and color pencils!

Aaaargh, can't wait to get home and look at these. I can't see any but the very first one because I'm at work, but that first one is great. For some reason, I really like ballpoint pen artwork. :)
