I'm not ranking ones I haven't finished, but if I did, FFII is definitely the worst, FFXV is probably better than some of the ones I did rank, and FFXIII is likely worse than any of the ones I ranked. I'm also not bothering to rank FFT, but if I did it would probably fall somewhere around the FFIV/FFX rank (i.e. 5-7).

It surprised me, but after I thought about it a bit, I realized I'm more fond of VII now than IV. IV will always have a special place in my heart for being the first Final Fantasy game I ever played, but just about everything that I love about IV, VII does better. XIII-2 has really grown on me, as well. As a sequel to XIII, it's a huge disappointment, but if you look at it on its own terms, it's got some really great elements. And it might just have my favorite soundtrack in the series.
Honestly, not sure about this ranking beyond the first and last two. Really depends on the mood I'm in.

Honestly though? Besides the few on the top and bottom I’m not very confident in the placement of the rest. It’s a pretty arbitrary list as it is.
I may fill in details why later. For now, I'm just going to try and list them. I will also just stick to entries I've beaten. I based my opinion with the bottom entries on how likely I would be to come back to the game. From best to worst.

I'd like to do main and spinoffs in separate lists, but I've only played like...2 spinoffs (Tactics, Dissidia FG...uhh...I think that's it), so it'd be a short list, lol. I have played FFRK, FFBE, and DFFOO if mobile games count lol.
Anyway, main SP games only for me. I have played XI and XIV, but feel that online experiences for any online game skews those game experiences (in any direction), so it's always a bit unfair to me to compare online vs offline games. And I'm not counting FF3 b/c I never played it. I could still make 2 separate lists since I acknowledge my FAVORITE FF's are not the same as what I think are the "best" FF's. This list will be my favorites, followed by a summary of how I'd change up the list to "best".

So, I think VII and X are the 2 "best" FF's, followed by VI. I put "best" in quotes b/c i'm still not even trying to objective, but I am weighing game design, mechanics, and innovation as much as characters, story, and storytelling - the latter 3 being what I measure the most for my favorite FF's.
Also, I only really "dislike" XIII and XV. I usually prefer to put the FF games in tiers, rather than a linear list, since seeing VI ranked #7 is like :mad2: I'm sure for a lot of ppl, but I still think it's an amazing game (see me putting it #3 "best"), but I just like other ones better. Life is tough as an FF fan. :erm:
