Quest: Inscrutable Tastes
Quest NPC: Morgayne, Foundation, 10,10. Just north of the Aetheryte. It might not show up as an available quest on your map, no idea why, but it happens for some people.
This quest requires you to have completed the L50 main story quest "The Better Half" and to have a DoL or DoH at 50 or above in order to accept it.
Gear Change Macros: Collectable Style
ADVICE: Set these macros for easy job changing... obviously change the gear set number to whatever is appropriate for your own character.

The reason I have collectables auto-on is because if you hit when you're on collectable but don't want to be on collectable, it's okay, you just hit return. If you hit when you're not on collectable and you want a collectable, you done smurfed up.

What is your goal? Depending on your goal and your perception level, you should use a different rotation to get the best yield possible.

Rotation E: 8/8 Ephemeral
USEFUL: Where and when to find Ephemeral Nodes
ADVICE: Buy Cordial. A stack of it, if you can. I'm assuming if you're reading this guide that you want to farm for the Leafborne/Landborne aethersand. This is an RNG heavy thing, very RNG heavy, so the reason I say a STACK of Cordial is because farming that sucker will likely take you many attempts. Or just one. Depends on how RNG feels about you that moment!
- Touch the ephemeral node
--- If there is no L60 item, leave the node as it is and run to another pair of regular nodes nearby. Touch one of them. No need to actually gather from them so long as you "open" the gathering options for the node and then close it again (ie, "touching the node"). Do the same with another pair. This resets the ephemeral node. Waiting for an L60 item to pop on the node can be very frustrating, but that's RNG and that's why the rewards are highly sought after.
--- If there is an L60 item, proceed...
- Impulsive Appraisal
--- If Discerning Eye did NOT proc, use Solid Reason (MIN) or Ageless Words (BTN) and exit the node. This regenerates the hit you just took out of it, but leaves you 300GP short. You can either use a Cordial or you can sit and wait for your GP to regenerate before trying the above step again. Don't hit other nodes while you wait... that will reset this one and you'll end up having to try to pop your L60 item on the node again. Not worth it. I've gone four game hours with 0 L60 nodes. Genuinely, don't waste it when you get one.

NOTE: If you're short on time and have to go do something in the next five minutes, and the first Discerning Eye doesn't proc, you can gamble on the second Impulsive Appraisal getting you the 30% result you want. If you want to do that, click the 'Gambler' tag below.

Backout Yield: Reattempt (70%), 1 (21%) or 2 (9%) 8/8 quality collectable items. Over time, this should average at 0.39 or 1.3 8/8 collectable items depending on whether or not you count the reattempt as 0 yield.
Gamble Yield: 0 (49%), 1 (42%) or 2 (9%) 8/8 collectable items. Over time, this should average at 0.6 8/8 collectable items.
Aetherial Reduction Results on 8/8 Quality for L60 items: Aetherial Reduction on the 8/8 L60 collectable will give you 50-70 Crystals and ONE of the following (in order of apparent value)...
- 50-70 Clusters
- 1-3 Duskborne Aethersand
- 1 HQ Duskborne Aethersand
- 1-3 Dawnborne Aethersand
- 1 HQ Dawnborne Aethersand
- 1-3 Landborne (MIN) or Leafborne (BTN) Aethersand
- 1 HQ Landborne (MIN) or Leafborne (BTN) Aethersand (JACKPOT!)
MORE ADVICE: Once you leave the node upon a successful gathering, and you intend on doing it again, pop a cordial immediately if you can. Because that wait is a butt. Otherwise, you could use that regeneration time to gather materials, use a gathering favor, fish, whatever.
